Oh, I see what you mean now; true the Utility pack would not help you
getting your cars and tracks back.

No. I said that the utility pack doesn't download anymore.

Plus, I don't believe my cars and tracks made it up there anyway.
Thanks for the attempt, but I'm now mostly focused on trying to get my
own stuff back, and the ts2 utility pack isn't really that helpful for
that.

The reason for this is the Top Speed 2.1 update; this update includes the
utility pack already installed with it. Also, it has some great additions to
the tracks, cars, and menu system, which has been consolidated beautifully.

Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2 Utility Pack

2009-01-03 Thread Lukás Hosnedl

Hi,
seems that X-sight does not really care about the end user's VB libraries
during the installation process. Those runtime errors are mostly caused by a
missing library or having a different version than the one that is required
by the pack, etc.I've had just a single error that prevented me from even
starting the pack, saying that the file "comdlg32.ocx" or one of its
dependencies was not correctly registered or invalid. I fixed that by
downloading the file from a website and everything runs greatly since then.
Although everything seemed as if I had all required libraries and the most
up-to-date versions, I had to download this one from an external source. So
perhaps including the required files in the installation package would fix a
lot of these issues people are having.
As for selecting a server, you can easily work around the pack in a faster
and perhaps more efficient way. Just open the "topspeed.cfg" file in the
game folder and find the last line of text, containing the following string:
multiplayer=
Just write the ip address there after the = sign, save the changes, and you
are good to go.

HTH,
Lukas

2008-12-01 Thread Leonard de Ruijter
Hey,

Yeah, there are some problems with the start menu folder. We advice to
uninstall older versions of the game and delete all the folders, and
then install the new version. The server selector isn't included in
the game, but we've talked about that before.

Here's the tricky bit. The start menu folders for both top speed 2 and
top speed 2.1 are called top speed 2. If you want to fix the problem,
try reinstalling and changing the program group to top speed 2.1 or
something. This will fix all issues with shortcuts.

2008-12-01 Thread Lukás Hosnedl

Hi,
no matter what the confusion with reinstalling and upgrading and
disappearing start menu folders is, you can easily set the server to connect
to,even without the X-Sight-Interactive TS2 Utility Pack.
Just open the topspeed.cfg file in the folder where the game is installed,
and move to the last line of the file containing text, it's the second most
bottom one. There, type the ip or hostname of the server right behind the
"multiplayer=" string.
Sorry for accidentally sending this message to the list before it was
complete.

Hope this helps,

Hi Dakotah,
strange issues here, I won't probably be much of a help, but I'll try it
anyway. :-)
I have never had any problems when I connected to a working server as a
client, although I am behind a router as well, so that should not be the
issue. If there was ever a problem, it always proved to be on the server
side, this is how things turned for me.
When I wanted to host my own games, I had to do exactly what you
described:

Forward the appropriate port (or set it as a virtual server, depends how
each individual router calls the same thing) both for TCP and UDP. For
this

to work, make sure that you have a static ip address set for your lan
adapter, and that the virtual server or port forwarding is linked to that
very address, that should make sense. Also, an active firewall built into
the router itself or a similar functionality of the router could be
blocking
the transmission, every router is different and I am not really a net
admin

or so at all. I just managed to set several virtual servers for several
different ports on my router, that's all. I did this the very day Top
Speed
2.0 was released, and have done it for other multiplayer audiogames as
well,

such as Audioquake or Soundrts, and have never had a single problem with
this particular business.

I hope this isn't too off-topic for the list. If so, please e-mail
privately with answers.

First, creating a server behind a router can pose problems. Is it
usually workable to be behind a router if you're on the client side or
are the same difficulties present?

Second, if I want to create a server, and I am behind a router, what
are the ports I should forward and under what protocols? I tried 25989
with TCP and UDP but it said I couldn't start the server. Next, I
tried making my computer a DMZ, risky but what the heck. When I tried
that, I didn't even get the "server failed" message. The program just
kind of froze. What am I missing here. When I patch my computer
straight through to the internet, everything's fine. It's only when I
add my router that there are problems.

Help, please.

There is only one port for top speed, 25989 tcp/udp. Upnp should work
on the most common routers. What kind of router do you have?

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 issues: was: Top Speed 2 multiplayer troubleshooting

2008-12-01 Thread constantine (on laptop)

Hi

I have a d-link wbr-1310 here, but I don't think that was my problem. A
friend of mine reinstalled top speed. WHen he did this, the start menu was
gone - he set it to create a folder. Actually, the problem was this.

He upgraded from top speed rc1 to rc2. Now, he went to connect to my server.
But he couldn't get into the server selector. Our start menu items were
totally different.

Mine has playing in the dark on the web, top speed 2 read me english, and
top speed 2, then it also has x site interactive ts 2 utilitty pack. His
didn't have the latter. I'm really not sure what to think of this. I also
didn't have the tools submenu. He did, so when he clicked on it, and went to
server selector, he got a could not find shortcut error. Could the start
menu items from rc1 stil be there? So he deleted the top speed 2 start menu
folder, uninstalled it, and reinstalled it. The start menu items didn't
reappear - in fact, there was no playing in the dark start menu folder.

Hi Dakotah,
strange issues here, I won't probably be much of a help, but I'll try it
anyway.

That is strange. Seems like some weird incompatibility issue between the
game and your router then, or something like that, well, frankly I have no
idea. :-) For me, it was enough to put in just the port number that was
specified in the documentation for both tcp and udp protocols as both input
and trigger.

[Audyssey] top speed 2 community?

2008-07-14 Thread Shane Davidson
Hello all,
I don't post here much, but I do read each and every message that comes across
the list, but due to the mass amount of mail I get i can't get around to
writing much.
Anyhow, onto the content of my message.
I have gotten back into top speed 2, but i can't find the documentation to
create cars and tracks, and the community at:
http://community.playinginthedark.net

doesn't seem to be around anymore, and that's where i got a lot of my cars,
tracks, and other documentation to create the cars and tracks.
Does anyone have or know where i can obtain the information I need to create
cars and tracks, and where i can get more cars and tracks for topspeed2?
thanks for any assistants that can be offered.
sincerely,
Shane Davidson

I know there use to be a bunch of top speed cars and tracks on the playing

wondering if anyone knew of a good place besides xsite with more cars and
tracks. Maybe an open ftp or something. Thanks for your help,

Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2 Mods

2007-11-07 Thread Dakotah Rickard
Hi. Usually, they are contained in a zip file.. If the mod is a
vehicle, put it in the vehicles folder. If it is a track, put it in
the tracks folder. Then, check to make sure that the mod is not in a
specific subfolder. The tracks and vehicles folders should have no
subfolders containing mods. They only work if they're in the root
directory. If you want more mods, including some of the ones off the
Playing In The Dark site and some more that I've made, let me know.

Normally to join a top speed server you need not change anything on your
end. Only the certain ports mentioned in the manual need to be opened to
host a game. I have not had my topspeed server up for some time now
because I have not had time. I might be able to set a time in a few days
though. I'll definitely post here.

Hi,
I'm interested in playing Top Speed 2 against other Internet players,
but everytime I join a server like the one on Asmodean.net, my computer
just sits there. I realize it's down, but I'm wondering if there's
something I need to adjust in my router, such as telling it what port to
use? I had to do this when using the EchoLink program. If that's the case,
I can't find the area in the Admin page where you put that information in
now. Anyway, are there any Top Speed servers that are up frequently?
Thanks.

[Audyssey] Top Speed 2: two new vehicles

2006-06-03 Thread Neo
Hi racers,
I've just uploaded two new cars to DJC's ftp: The old school bus and The Rail
racer.
The sounds for the bus come from the game itself (I've just played around with
them for a bit and found them, so created my imagination of such bus). The Rail
Racer car sounds come from the upcoming game but the car itself isn'T an exact
remake of the RR vehicle, as it would not be really possible to truly convert
it to Top Speed.
Hope it's okay with ya, Che! :-)
So take care and enjoy!

reason. I will keep that in mind, and thanks for the suggestion. It is just
with me, I don't want to put it out here then not be able to host it, cause

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 hosting

2006-04-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello Richard. Mind taking some constructive criticism?

When posting that you will be racing keep in mind that not everyone on
the list is on the PC right at the moment you are so if you plan on
racing and know it in advance, meaning it's not an on-the-fly thing try
to give more notice.

I've done the same thing too where I have some time and start the racing
server. I change my msn nickname to reflect this and write an email but
have noticed 95% of the time that hardly no one joins me and that is
because by the time people read the message on email I've already closed
down the server. Unless someone is right at the pc reading email and
sees the message and is interested in racing, that is.

In short, you , me, and everyone else who want to get more racers would
need to post a racing hosting message around 3 or 4 hours at least ahead
of time. For example. I plan on doing some race hosting later today and
will write a message to that in a few minutes.

All the best.

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 hosting

2006-04-23 Thread Neo
HI,
nope. If you wanna host a new game, you just select host a new game from the
multiplayer menu, no server selector at all. If others wanna join you, they
need to enter your ip into their server selectors. Likewise, if you wanna
join a server, the game needs to know which one, so you have to enter the ip
or hostname into the server selector. Just remember that when you host, just
host, no server selector, if you wanna join, you need others IP.
Sorry if this message is a bit confused, hope it explains at least
something, I'm writing it in a hurry,

Nope. You give your IP address to others, and they put it on the server

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 hosting

2006-04-22 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi Richard. You mean you don't want to tell me the fact that your
computer name is:

gadolum18z9hrn

And your ip address at the time of writing the message I'm replying to
was:

66.28.173.201

Hmm, how about that for security?

As others have said, visiting any web site, writing any email, anything
which involves a connection to the Internet results in people knowing
your IP address. Can I get personal information from that? Not just on
that information. There are some who put their ssn as their computer
name and this is bad bad bad. In short, just having your ip address
known is not a problem.

Someone suggested in getting a dynamic hosting service like no-ip.org or
dyndns.org. While this is a good suggestion. I think it was made for the
wrong reason. Using services like dyndns.org or no-ip.org are to make it
easy to reach you like when hosting a game, they are not designed to
hide your ip address. All these services will do is make it so I can
type something like:

rbennett.dyndns.org

to connect to a game you might be hosting. In this example the hostname
above would resolve to the ip:

66.28.173.201

So you see, it's not hiding your ip address.

In short, it's ok to give out your ip address, hope this answers your
questions and concerns.

well I knew that places logged my IP address, but as far as just giving it
to individuals, that is just something that "wigs" me out. Don't ask me why,
it just does, lol. Also it would be easier, like you said, to get
beanGame.domain.com or something similar to that just because it would be
alot easier. Thanks for those sites, I will check those out. Apprecinate it

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 hosting

2006-04-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Richard,
Anything you do on the internet involves your ip address in one way or
another. Some, actually many, web sites log your ip for security
reasons. Even your emails send out ip info so I wouldn't worry about it
if security is your concern.
However, that said having a virtual domain does make it allot nicer if
you plan to do allot of hosting of something. There are several
companies out there that offer virtual domains for free or almost
nothing that converts your dinamic ip in to a virtual domain like
 topspeed.someplace.com

Right off the top of my head I can think of three such places
dns2go.com
deerfield.com
tzo.com

Hey Lucas thanks for that. I hadn't even read the manual for top speed. I
hardly ever read manuals, I just go full force *grin* How do I get a server,
or does it provide one?

What you want to do is to log in to my ftp site Rich. The info for my ftp
is as follows:

Servername: djc.my-net-space.net
Username: PlayingInTheDark
Password: racing
Port is 21
No passive mode.

That should do it for you.

Re: [Audyssey] top speed 2 tracks

2006-04-02 Thread Neo
Hi,
I would really recommend you to read the manual - it explains everything
needed to start a server clearly and perfectly. I will then be glad to
answer any detailed questions you may have.
Basically, it is enough to select multiplayer game and then host a new game
from the main menu, and tell others your server ip or hostname to join your
server. Then everything goes like in single player, except that you have to
press enter at the beginning of the race when you feel you want to start the
race and stop waiting for new players to come. :-)
There might be a few problems or rather conditions to keep an eye on though
if you want to be successful, and these are mentioned in the manual.
Hope this helps,
Lukas

Hey DJC, that is no problem, I have created a car too, it is wicked I am not

sharing them? Cause I don't know how. Also, how would one go about hosting a

I'd appreciate it Rich if you'd share your tracks with the community. You
can upload them to my ftp site if you'd like.

[Audyssey] top speed 2 tracks

2006-04-01 Thread Richard Bennett
Hello gamers, I have created a few tracks, but for some reason, when I create
the .wav file to describe the track, it isn't playing in the track menu. Anyone
have any suggestions on why this is? I have saved them as a .wav file and put
them in the track folder like the instructions said, but it still isn't playing.
