Thanks for your response and with what I have tried in the past which was a
lot of what you mentioned, it just looks like to me it's not worth the

I will continue the manual entry along with using the QIF / OFX downloads

I am guessing that want to use Online Banking itself, and the Online
Banking Setup is just a necessary step in preparation. The term I use
for this interaction is OFXDirectConnect, which is the name of the
protocol which actually does the information exchange.  If you have not

Yes, I have used Online Banking via OFXDirectConnect for some banks and
credit cards in the USA and Canada in the past. I no longer use it,
because entering my transactions manually works better for me.

My experience is that how easy or difficult it is to set up
OFXDirectConnect is entirely a function of the bank or credit card
company. Most don't bother to offer the service. Those that do, tend to
offer it in idiosyncratic ways which require you to figure out what
combinations of settings will be just right let the connection work.
And, they tend not to describe what they require very well.

The web site OFX Home lists the required
connection settings for some 300 banks and companies. If that company to
which you want to connect is described there, correctly, then setting up
a connection is easier. If it is not there, then it will probably be
difficult to figure out.

Does that answer your question?

You may need to ask for a technical person to email you. If you succeed
with that, offer them the results of the above specific tech details. That
gives them something to go on in researching or offering you a solution.
They may even have a Quicken to XXX conversion which could work. You never
know until you have put the right question to the right person.

So best to avoid the first-line call centre responders. You could start by
saying "I have a complicated computer question and really need to send one
of your tech support people a heap of data to explain the issue. Can you
put me in contact with such a person, please?"

Well, as to that, of course there are kings and kings. When I say that I
detest kings, I mean I detest bad kings.

[GNC] Online banking and bbt

2020-09-18 Thread Ben Pracht
Hi,

I'm somewhat happy with my bank, or at least dislike them the least among
the banks in my area so I don't want to se
switch.

However, the online banking security is out of date. I want to say they use
TLS 1.1 but should be on 1.2 or something like that. In any case, it does
not work with GnuCash.

How would people recommend asking my bank for the best settings to use and
maybe asking for an upgrade. I *know* the first person I reach is going to
tell me to install Quicken on my Windows machine neither of which I have.

It would also be easy to have some misunderstanding dolt think I'm trying
to hack into bbt.

I wonder if I could pay someone a small token of appreciation to fix this
and check it into the code base.

I love GnuCash, but pity anyone who deals with online banking. If I were
king, I'd force the banks to do a restful api with standard asymmetric
keys. And I'd force them to document it.

Kind regards,

Didn't work for me. I installed the updated aqbanking package and still get
the error. Anthony, did you have to go into aqbanking and recreate the
accounts in order for download transactions to work?

[GNC] Online banking breaks after upgrade to Fedora 32 - error on executing job. status: enqueued (1)

2020-05-04 Thread Daffy Duck
Hello,

I'd been using online banking forever, but since upgrading to Fedora 32
last week, I now get this error when I try to fetch transactions:

error on executing job. status: enqueued (1)

It shows in a popup.

If I go into online banking setup and try to retrieve accounts, it just
crashes.

gnucash-3.10-1.fc32.x86_64

aqbanking-6.0.1-2.fc32.x86_64

gwenhywfar-5.1.2-2.fc32.x86_64

Any ideas?

A new version of AQBanking that's necessary for German FinTS users but wasn't
quite ready for OFX DirectConnect users. Install 3.7 for now, we hope that it

[GNC] Online Banking setup

2020-02-12 Thread Keith Bellairs
Just upgraded my Mac from GNC 3.5 to 3.8. Online banking setup was
apparently lost. Online actions for a couple of accounts now report as not
set up. Bummer. They had worked flawlessly before.

So I went to the online banking tool to set them up again. When I get to
the Retrieve Accounts button, the wizard reports that it worked -
connection to my bank seems to be OK. But no accounts are visible. This was
dead simple in 3.5 so I don't know what I am missing. Along the way in the
wizard I didn't see any accounts in the Accounts tab. Also did not see a
configuration option "Supports Account List Downloads" check box that is
mentioned in the wiki

I can go back to downloading an OFX so the problem is not critical. But
what happened?

I solved my problem.

While looking for the password info, I found some lockimng-related files in
C:\Users\me\aqbanking\settings\users. They looked like

uid%3a%3a0001.conf.lck.DigitalStorm-PC-17640
uid%3a%3a0001.conf.lck

I deleted them and the expected behavior returned.

Very frustrating.

Not exactly, just that "memory" really means "storage": If the preference is
set, AQBanking remembers persistently across sessions. If it's unset, AQBanking
forgets it, no restarts required.

I just tested and it works that way for me. I don't understand why it works

IIUC your complaint is that Get Transactions is proceeding without asking for
your password on each account. There's a check box on the little dialog for
entering the password to tell AQBanking to save it and I suppose you must have
checked it at some point. You can undo the setting in Preferences>Online
Banking>Remember the PIN in memory (3rd-from-last checkbox).

[GNC] Online Banking Wedged Suddenly

2019-06-09 Thread Hook
I have been using v3.5 on Win 10 for some time.

Yesterday, online banking started acting weirdly. The behavior continues
today.

When I use Actions -> Online Actions -> Get Transactions ...

the action proceeds without requesting a password. This happens for all 3
accounts that I use.

I have exited and reentered GC. No change.

Any ideas?

Re: [GNC] Online Banking Upgrade hosed Name and Memo field

2018-11-15 Thread Alan Marsh
I exported to a CSV. It look like the "Import Transactions from CSV"
will allow me to pick which column is "Notes" vs "Description".
Are there any other gotchas with the process that I should know about?

Is there any documentation on this feature?

Thanks!

Does your bank offer QIF export? Maybe they didn't bork that.
Otherwise you're stuck with pre-processing the file with the
 scripting language of your choice.

Before you go down that path see if any others on this maillist have had
the same problem with release 3.3. I am still on 2.6.15 or 17, so I have
not seen the revised importers.

Re: [GNC] Online Banking Upgrade hosed Name and Memo field

2018-10-30 Thread Alan Marsh
The "new and improved" online banking allows me to export to .csv, .ofx,
.qfx, and .qbo
I am using the File > Import > Import OFX/QFX menu option.

Even in the CSV format, the Description and Memo fields show the same as
and in both .ofx and .qfx
I'm thinking I'll have to pre-process the file as John mentions.

I'm very out of date on programming stuff and only dabbled with Python
once... stuck in a corporate Microsoft world.
Any suggestions on what to use and maybe a sample script from someone
else forced to do this sort of thing. Last time this happened, I changed
credit unions. Besides this one problem, I'm pretty happy at this one.
Thanks!

[GNC] Online Banking Upgrade hosed Name and Memo field

2018-10-29 Thread Alan Marsh
NAME and MEMO were identical in old xml (either ofx or qfx)
POS PURCH - KROGER FUEL CTR 554
POS PURCH - KROGER FUEL CTR 5542 IL DECATUR
4615 E. US ROUTE 36US
After online banking upgrade it now gives me

POS PURCH
KROGER FUEL CTR 5542 IL DECATUR 4615 E. US
ROUTE 36US
Which means all transactions in gnucash say just POS PURCH for the
Description and you have to expand each one to see the actual memo entry
to know who was paid.
Any idea how to fix this?

(AqBanking initial Assistant). In that popup, neither clicking "Cancel"

It means to pass --enable-hbci to configure when building with autotools. The
cmake equivalent of --enable-hbci is -DWITH_AQBANKING, and it's on by default,
so no, you don't need to do that for 3.0.

Tools-->Online Banking Setup opens the online banking setup assistant. It has
two buttons, Cancel and Next, whose location varies depending on I'm not sure
what: They're across the top on Debian 9 and in the lower right corner on
MacOS. "Cancel" always dismisses the assistant. Is that what's not working for
you, or is it after advancing to the second screen and clicking "Start
AQBanking Setup" that you get the window that won't close?

[GNC] Online Banking

2018-04-12 Thread Steve Cohen
In GnuCash 3.0, I tried to enable online banking in accessing
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Setting_up_OFXDirectConnect_in_GnuCash_2

(I had previous made an unsuccessful attempt to do this with 2.6.x).

The first thing I found was that after launching Tools --> Online
Banking Setup, I got a popup window that would not close.

Possibly something is not set up right.

I see the following:

> GnuCash now uses AqBanking as a means to handle connections to financial
> institutions. GnuCash must be configured using --enable-hbci and --enable-ofx
> in order for OFXDirectConnect to be available. Note: --enable-hbci is really

> there isn't an --enable-aqbanking per se. But you need AqBanking for

Hmmm: "why you need to --enable-hbci"

What does this mean? Launch gnucash with this parameter? Put it into
some configuration file before (or after) building? And if so, which file?

And does any of this apply to 3.x?

Thanks in advance for your answer.
