Why do you need smoothing if you are using ROIs? If you smooth in the volume you will be mixing in CSF, white matter, and cortex from the opposite banks of gyri and sulci. Even smoothing on the surface will mix signal between different cortical areas and isn’t needed if you are doing an ROI
