However long this job takes you, you will be more than amply rewarded when
you drive along at night and see the multicolored lights in the center of
the dash. Truly glorious.

2022-11-12 Thread Jaime Kopchinski via Mercedes
I'm glad my instructions are useful!

As for the clips, there are two... the C shaped clips that hold the cable
housing to the lever assembly can be removed with your fingers or a flat
head screwdriver. They will go flying so be careful.

The second clips are the ones that hold the cables to the levers - the
castelled washers, can just be pried off with a small screw driver.
They'll also go flying if you're not careful.

The outer cables for the lower levers are different - you need to access a
philips head screw from above in order to release the cables. I assume I
talked about this in the instructions on my site (which I wrote 20 years
ago, so I don't remember).

As for any parts that might go flying, you can order them from the classic
center. Its best a send a photo of what you need. There are many many
different variants of these levers and cables and I'm always surprised when
I find another version.

I suspect a new blower motor is in your future. The one in my 4.5 recently
died and I need to replace it also. Its not as terrible of a job as the
internet would lead you to believe. There are more difficult jobs, for
sure.

Good luck

Usually you are in for a struggle, but those don't quite look like the
"quick push on with tangs pointing backwards" clips I have seen before.
The clips I have seen before do not squeeze to release; I am not sure,
from the photograph's perspective exactly how your clips work.

A picture from the bottom of looking up at the free end of the short
"rod" on which the clips are pushed would be helpful.

This car supposedly has ASR per the build sheet and the idiot light for it is

curious.

I’m waiting on all the intake manifold hoses and connectors and such. It won’t
idle and is running very rich. I’m hoping that stuff fixes that aspect. The new
throttle cable actually controls the engine speed better, the old one was
broken at the engine end and there was a lock washer to hold it in the lever so
it was not working very well

This guy talks about the battery and charging it here:

There was a video of some guy flinging his used Tesla via trebuchet when he

Re: [MBZ] Fwd: EV kisses.

2022-11-12 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Maybe my Hertz Tesla has some sort of sport suspension on it. But why would
Hertz do that? It just seems to be very stiffly sprung with limited
suspension travel. I have never been in a car that hobby horses over uneven
pavement like this thing. Frost heaves are what did Pobst in at Pikes Peak.

Johnny Cash's old Rolls was at my upholstery guy's shop a few months back
with a whole new electric drivetrain in it. I think that might actually be
a better car than this Y thing. I can see a 560 chassis responding well to
electric treatment. But the problem with all this hot rod stuff is lack of
support. Unless you are a garage hero with electric motors, where do you
turn when something acts up, like the heater or AC? Hope to live near the
conversion shop I guess.

Tesla seems to have pushed the motors and heating/cooling loops for cabin,
battery and motors/transmission to very elegant levels of sophistication
and efficiency, from what I read anyway. But the majors will close that gap
quickly. Toyota just launched an iron lithium battery car in China -
totally new tech for cars and no degradation of battery capacity over time
with less fire risk apparently.

I can see long haul trucks going hydrogen fuel cell for more range.

2022-11-12 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I got the new wheel speed sensor on the ML. Was easier to get at the connector
by taking off the wheel well liner. Kinda glad I did, there’s huge amount of
crap up behind the lower rear part of the fender I’ll hose out of there. It
amazes me the engineers still design these hidden rust inducers. Other than
that the front is surprisingly clean, no oil leaks or anything. I’m looking to
see just how bad the engine mounts are going to be…

If the connector end was a bit easier to get at it would have been a 10min job
not counting getting the jack organized and taking off the wheel.

You would have to find a way to gain control of the systems, as they’re already
screwing people over on resales where they disable options when the car changes

That being the case, you’re pretty much at Elon’s mercy unless you find a way

I wonder if these things will ever get to beater status where you could buy
them cheepcheep and just hoon the hell out of them, or if they will just suffer
massive multiple system failures to where they couldn’t even be rat rodded. I
suppose some cult dudes will figure out how to run them with raspberry pis
controlling basic functions so maybe some hacks will bypass all the factory
nonsense and you could just flog them unmercifully until they melt down

Yeah. A 3 Performance or any late model S would feel like the

The stereo is good to know.
The ride quality is good to know. I knew the mass was high and assumed
it would cause handling issues, but I expected a fantastic ride with all
that mass. Either the mass is poorly dealt with, or the unsprung mass is
high. I forget, are the motors on the chassis or in the hubs?

The rest of what you said matches my expectations. Linear
acceleration/deceleration like an R/C car, and "computer on wheels".

Six years ago, if it was my money, it was going to be a Chevy Spark.
The Bolt is like an overweight Spark with more power, more range, and an
EV specific chassis. The Spark was sort of the testbed/prototype for the
Bolt's drivetrain.
And with Bolt current pricing, it's like buying a Spark before GM went
crazy dumping Sparks at the end of 2016. I don't know where the
dashboard controls on the Bolt fit in between a Spark and a Tesla, I've
never actually sat in a Bolt.

And I'm saying I'm not buying anything with a FL title history until a
year after Ian, assuming there isn't another huge event to reset the one
year waiting period. Unless it's proven to be in good shape with no
noticeable effects for a year after the hurricane, I'm just gonna assume
it's a hurricane car.
