How about this guys? A Hepco & Becker 5mm skid guard (most are 3mm gravel deflectors) that encapsulates like a lower fairing. As well, it retains the lower exhaust pipe heat like exhaust pipe tape or BMW F650 Rotax engines run the exhaust pipes next to the cylinders to heat the exhaust up.

If I could get one for my Versys 650, I'd get one in a heartbeat. Safety is all about the bottleneck in your handling for that one instant. You can never be too safe, and Nighthawks are still midsize 'bricks' and handle like a brick in the corners. There is no flipping a switch in handling.
