RE: speaker volume problems
Hey. Are Rock Steady and Audio Stocker normalisation plug-ins? I have never used one of those, though I can understand how they would be useful. I have audio from many different sources and so the volumes do vary, but because I don't use such plug-ins, I just adjust the volume as needed, which I think I actually prefer doing. If you're having problems with your plug-ins, maybe they aren't playing nice with your audio setup. Are you using Windows 10? If Winamp itself is corrupt, I usually find that a reinstall solves all issues. Although it's probably not strictly speaking necessary, you should probably get the latest build of Winamp (final build?) if you are using Win 10. I don't know about Windows 7, but in W10 you can adjust volume in the speaker settings for each individual running application. It sounds like you already know a lot of this kind of stuff, though, so I'm not sure this will be any help. Still, go to the speaker icon thing in the system tray and click the context menu, and you should see a volume panel that may help, since you can adjust your browser volume independent of JAWS. Since you mentioned youtube, though, it sounds like maybe the slider on your youtube volume got turned way down. If you have an account, youtube should "remember" this and so won't readjust your volume whenever you open a session and play a new video. I *think* you can adjust the slider control using JAWS, but to be perfectly honest, I have never even played with it, so I'm not sure. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of joanne Sent: Monday, August 21, 2017 11:02 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: speaker volume problems First problem I have with my speaker volume--sorry there are a couple here--is when I go to youtube and I need to raise the browser's volume--be it Firefox or Internet Explorer--so I can hear what's playing, Jaws volume goes up as well. RE: Here's a Cool Little Program for Raising the Volume of Audio Files.
You can't tell it to raise the volume to a certain level. You can raise by fixed percentage values, only and have to try it and check the results. You also can't prevent clipping with this program. It is fairly fast and, with practice, you can adjust the volume of a folder in one or two tries. I am looking for a command line version of such a program. Preferably one that raises volume to a set level rather than by a set amount. And with NVDA? Becausd GainMP3 with NVDA to look at the results of how much volume level of the files to determine how much, or to leave the file alome, one needs to use the Flat review cursor. Re: every media player on computer lowers jaws volume
Hi I used in Jaws insert f2 witch i then once I did that hit the letter s witch I went to the setting sender in Jaws 18. that is what I am using. And in the search box for the settings I put in Jaws volume. And when I got the result I got A result that said that lower the volume of outehr audio when jaws is speaking. And mine it said that that check box was cleared. So maybe you have the check box selected. So you might want to take A look at that setting if your system has it. Again I found that in Jaws settings center. -- Casey
every media player on computer lowers jaws volume
Now I remember many of us struggling many years ago with the problem I'm having, usually happening with the old real player but also with some winamp output plug-ins. So I'm surprised that it's happening and I know my settings are right. Jaws is set to allow other audio and my players are no different than they've always been. But whether it's Jaws 16 or 18--the 2 I have on my windows 7 system--if I play an audio file and use Jaws, the Jaws volume goes down super low. I don't have loud volume on my media players mostly because I want to work with other programs while listening to music. But as soon as an audio file starts I can barely hear Jaws. The file stops; Jaws comes right back up to the right volume. This is a dell system with real tech high definition, and between Jaws going out and the shaky type sound of the files I don't know if it's sound card or external speakers or maybe Jaws needs repair? And it's no respecter of media players--VLC, Winamp and Windows Media Player all cause Jaws to lower volume. Would appreciate any thoughts. Joanne

Leveling Volume in a file
What would be the best way to level the volume in a song? The reason I want to do so is because I have an accompaniment track for a solo I am singing this Sunday at church but their sound system is not the best and the song starts out soft then the electric guitars kick in. The sound guy would set the level for the loudest part so I would not be able to hear the accompaniment during the softest sections so would not know if I was on key and in time or not. If I could lower the volume of the loud sections the type of accompaniment would chane but not the volume. so all could be at a level OK with everyone. Re: Leveling Volume in a file
The best way is to use a compressor. The easiest way is to just have the sound guy make the adjustment manually during the performance. As long as there aren't a lot of changes in the song, this should work fine. - Original Message - From: Dean Masters dwmaster...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, August 12, 2013 7:13 AM Subject: Leveling Volume in a file What would be the best way to level the volume in a song? volume on mp3's
I have a bunch of mp3's that are at different levels and I have to keep on adjusting the volume. We are taking a tubing trip sunday and I would rather drink beer instead of having to adjust volume. Is there a way or a program that will allow me to get the mp3's close to the same volume? I tried mp3 gain but did it to the entire folder at once. Maybe individually or a different program? Gery D. Internet Volume Control
Greetings All, I just purchased a Toshiba laptop using Windows 8 to replace my old workhorse computer. I really like it but I have a problem I hope someone can help me with here. I'm using Jaws 14 but whenever I access audio on the internet meaning radio etc, the audio almost drowns out Jaws completely. I found the system volume controls and to hear Jaws reasonably well, I have to turn the internet volume control down to between 15 and 20% with everything else maxed out at 100%. My problem is, I can't seem to find a way to save the internet volume setting. Whether I use Escape or Alt-F4 to close the volume controls window, the next time I access audio on the internet, the volume is right back at 100% with all the other volumes. I've never encountered this problem before as I've always had multiple sound cards in my computers, one for Jaws and one for recording playing, etc. So, how can I save the internet volume control setting once and for all or what do those of you who have single sound cards do to balance volume so you can stream audio and use Jaws at the same time. Thanks in advance for any help. Lee Mounger To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Adjusting volume in Total Recorder?
Hello everyone. Please can anyone tell me if there is a way of adjusting the volume of things in Total Recorder? I am asking because I have got Software and Soundboard selected, can record computer fine. But my microphone is really quiet! I have set my microphone to 100%, so think there is something wrong in Total Recorder. Done a test with it and shared it with my friend and one member of this list, Christopher Hallsworth. By the way got the Digital Mixer Add-on installed, so this is why I can select Software and soundboard. Keyboard shortcuts welcome, as I'm blind. The help isn't very good. Re: Adjusting volume in Total Recorder?
Gary, just to say the help is very good but is very comprehensive which may not suit you and anyone else. But it does suit me. Anyway, putting that aside, do you have a boost setting in your microphone's volume. If so have a play with that and see how you get on. Mine has a boost control so should yours since we are using the same sound chip, the Intel Hd Audio and we are both using the drivers that are shipped with Windows 7. Good luck. Master volume annoyance
Hope someone can help me with this little pesky annoyance. For some reason that I just can't figure out, one day my master volume, instead of starting at full, 500 to be exact, now starts up at 448, making it necessary to open up the volume control to turn it all the way up. This has been going on for the past few months, but I just got pissed off enough to finally inquire about it. I can't seem to find anything within control panel that would allow me to save new settings. I don't think I have anything loading at startup that would effect the setting, but I dunno. I am still using XP Home Edition. Times are hard g. Currently, I don't have any editing program on my machine (oh yes..actually I do; Goldwave) but it's a trial version and I've not done anything with it yet! Re: Volume; Need some help here with Audacity thanks!
Hi, assuming that the cassette to pc device uses a usb connection, and that you're using windows xp, then audacity probably can't control the recording level from within the program. However, you can adjust the recording level by adjusting the windows recording level of the device: 1. In the Control Panel, open the Sound and Audio Devices Properties dialog. 2. Move to the Audio page of this dialog, where there's a Sound recording default device combo box. Select the device in this combo box, and then Tab to the next control which is a Volume button, and press it. 3. A dialog opens, which contains a volume slider for the device. Hi back about cassett player. This is one I found at Frys. It is called a Grace-USB with some numbers? They also sell the grace device for records. This one has a few things on it but no speed adjustment as far as I know. It has a tone recording knob that I have not figured out yet but I think it adjusts the noises but not the speed. I am blind and have not yet read the manual that tells all. But have transfered files and it does its job. But my sound adjustments seem to be in my com or in my programs so far. That is it! Yes there is. 1. Press ctrl+p for preferences. 2. Arrow to the output plugin. 3. Tab to configure and press space. 4. Tab to output device then arrow to the sound card you wish to use. 5. Tab to close and press enter. That should do it. Re: Adjusting the volume
OK, with Winamp, what happens when you hit the down arrow key? That should lower the volume of the music without changing the volume of your screen reader. You may need to hit it a few times since the amount the volume is lowered is pretty small. If it changes both the volume of your music and the volume of your screen reader then there's a few configuration settings we can look at. Re: Adjusting the volume
I don't know of one myself. I'd suggest checking with Google or waiting to see if anyone else can point you at a tutorial or a podcast. In the mean time, I'd suggest looking through the JAWS documentation for Winamp. There should be some suggestions on how to use Winamp, as well as the list of JAWS keystrokes that work with winamp. I know it isn't much, but I'm sure it'll get you started. If you're a Window Eyes user, I know Window Eyes has some set files for Winamp, so there should also be some associated documentation there as well. Re: Adjusting the volume
Use the up and down arrow to control Winamp's volume. However, you must have Winamp's output set to direct sound. If it's set to wave out, it will probably lower your screen reader's volume along with the music. Go to Winamp preferences with control+P. Go to output, and make sure it's on direct sound. This will let you lower the music volume without affecting screen reader volume. At least it does with Jaws. - Original Message - From: Adrien Collins adriencollins22...@googlemail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 3:40 PM Subject: RE: Adjusting the volume Hi Bob Ok thanks for this, I have just replied to Christopher's message with full details. Hi Yes it works, I can lower the volume in winamp using the up and down keys. RE: Adjusting the volume
It is fairly easy to use. Yu can use z to go back. C to pause. V to stop. B to go forward. I Uusually just keep the main window and the playlist window open. There are shortcut keys for opening and closing windows in it but you can also alt and down arrow to the nelsoft winamp sub menu and right arrow into it. Make sure jus the main window and playlist window are checked. You can open tracks in the playlist window. Control n wipes it clean. Also remember if your in the main window by accident it will remove all the other tracks and just have that one. You can go between windows with control tab. Also r is for repeat and s is for shuffle. Control shift t gives the time remaining and control shift r randomizes the whole playlist. This should be good enough to get you started. Also make sure it is in classic skin or jaws won't read it right. This can be changed in preferences with control p and then down to skins tab and make sure it is on classic then hit enter. Re: Adjusting the volume
It sounds like you're saying that when you adjust the volume of your PC, you're lowering the volume of both your music and your screen reader. It sounds like you want to lower the volume of the music while not lowering the volume of your screen reader. Is this the case? In order to know how to help you, we'll need to know what screen reader you're using and what program you're using to listen to your music. Knowing the OS you're using may also help. It depends. In Windows 7, there's supposedly separate volume controls for all applications. In XP, many media players such as Winamp have volume controls that allow you to adjust the music volume without effecting Windows main volume which controls screen readers like JFW. - Original Message - From: Adrien Collins adriencollins22...@googlemail.com To: 'PC audio discussion list. Re: volume increase on .wav file
Audacity is free and will do this for you. ALternatively, you could use goldwave. You can maximise the volume, perform amplification, and while you can't actually increase the quality of the recording you can use filters to bring out certain frequencies more that you think you're not hearing, so long as they were actually captured in the original recording. - Original Message - From: E. thot...@earthlink.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2011 7:51 PM Subject: volume increase on .wav file I have a recording where the speaker did not stand anywhere near the microphone. Re: Reading current volume status in goldwave
Good morning Mario and listmembers. Mario, I truly undersstand your need for DB status info as a training tool -- I suspect for a sighted person who is accustomed to relying on sight in lieu of sound. Now it is possible that finding a DB status display could be accomplished with a few lines of code added to Mr. Grimsby's JFW scripts or the scripts of W.E. and the other screen readers. Many GW users will no doubt derive benefit not IF but WHEN this deficiency of access is solved. It will be helpful to have the numeric readings to confirm that autogain and other optimized gain options are working as they should. Re: Reading current volume status in goldwave
Yes it does, but i see that still you didn't get it what i want. I would like to be able to read the status of the volume, not hear it, but read it with the screen reader. So for example, when i play the file or select part of the file, i'd like to see on what volume is it set, like it play on the 20 db, or 40 db. I know that sighted users have that option in goldwave and that it is graphical. -- From: Robert doc Wright godfea...@wrighthere.net Sent: Sunday, July 25, 2010 4:53 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: Re: Reading current volume status in goldwave does the play key no longer work while setting effects? When satisfied with your autogain preset choice, tab once and hit space on the stop preview button and tab to OK and press the space bar. It may take a few minutes to reprocess the gain level depending on your PC's overall performance and the size of the audio file. Generally, I find the default option works well at least 90 percent of the time. How do I adjust the microphone volume in Windows 7?
Hi. I just got this great new laptop to replace a faithful one. I plan on using it for internet broadcasting, and here's where the problem begins. How do I change the microphone volume so it's louder? Right now I have to have the mic against my mouth in order to get a decent audio level. Thanks in advance for the help. For that matter, how do you adjust different audio levels in Windows 7? I'm running JAWS 11 on this PC. GO REDS! Kevin, The easiest way to get to your microphone settings should be to type in Windows search box the following: Set up a microphone Hth, Pawel. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Kevin Minor Sent: July-20-10 4:59 PM To: PC audio discussion list. If someone fixes this, I'd also like to know. I've never been able to access the Flash volume control buttons. So many are unlabeled and trying randomly has never changed the volume. I don't like Flash much. I have some buttons ladled for Youtube but those labels don't work everywhere.
