Hi,
A friend of mine recently received a new Pentax Espio
105 SW as a wedding present. It is a very nice camera.
Small, lighweight, silent, LCD with light,... and a
28-105 zoom. I was going to buy it for him but his
brother arrived first.
Yesterday I took some pictures with it during a
dinner.
Yesterday I asked the list about a friend's Espio PS
camera that did exactly this.
If this is a normal feature, then it is bad news for
me. It happened in a low light situation but enough to
have a dinner. This pre-fire is so disturbing that I
hoped it was an 'early unit flaw'.
Jaume
---
I think that this camera (Espio/IQZoom 105 SW) focuses
using contrast on the subject (like SLRs) instead of
distance (like most PS).
The specs in Pentax USA site say: Phase-matching
passive five-point autofocus system.
Are you saying that these PS uses TTL AF ???
Ivan

OK, now I see it clrearly:
My friend's Espio has a passive AF (TTL, same as SLRs)
that is more precise than my girlfriend's Olympus
active AF. But, in low light conditions, it needs to
be assisted by the flash in order to focus (the
Olympus don't).
Flash assistance or manual focus in the MZ-S?
(when you said passive autofocus you meant active,
didn't you?. Active is infrared/measuring distance and
passive is TTL/contrast).

difference in the Euro and American versions (i.e. MZ and ZX)? Also,
do the higher models in this series have the same functionality
(ZX-10, 50, 60, etc.)?
Thanks,

Being the owner of a DS, my main improvements would be:
1.-Faster AF, specially in low light. I have read mixed reviews about this in
the K10D. The last one, in photozone, is very positive though.
This one is my current biggest pain, really annoying sometimes. When I borrow a
350D, the
light. That said, the Canon's do handle multiple
sensor AF better than anybody else (I always set my Nikons and Pentax's
to single point with the centre sensor selected and leave them there).

10D is slower and less accurate than my K100D was, but multi-point AF is
actually usable.
The K100D has faster AF than the DS, Pentax did a superb update on the
AF system for the K100D.

Oh, so you don't care about SR? Why is that Boris?
It sounds good to be able to gain at least 2 stops in low light
circumstances...maybe it is because, in the field, it doesn't work as promised?
Or you don't notice it that much?
I always though about in-body IS as a big plus of the Pentax
of
camera. I'd rather Pentax introduced more than on K10D-like models so
that a consumer (a.k.a. me) could make their choices...
I still shoot a bit of film with my MZ-6 and boy, it is light and
small... And, mind you, it is full size 35 mm ;-).
