This could be particularly problematic for amzdownloader, as it also doesn't
 support the --help option.

But it is an UI application which does not take (need) any arguments.

Do you use an HTTP proxy of some kind to access the network? Is it PAC [1]
based? If so, I guess you can avoid the crash by switching away from PAC.

Could you reproduce the problem with libqtwebkit4-dbg installed?

So you should check the value of the DB_VERSION row in the admin table. If it
is 14, database upgrades should not be triggered anymore (and as far as I can
tell from the log, they are not). Therefore, trying using current database
unless you notice odd behaviour which could be database corruption related.

2012-08-18 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hello,

On Saturday 18 August 2012 08:22:19 Ira Rice wrote:
Right, I was using MySQL, like I thought I said when I reported it.

Likewise, when I purged it externally, it mostly reassembled itself
without me needing to tell it how to do so, and appears to still be
stuck at version 7. I shouldn't have to do much work to get it to the
same state it was in before. Probably just a couple of renames,
substituting in a few missing covers, but that's pretty much it.

I don't know the details but logically internal database should not be used if
external is enabled. However, since you are using external database,
DB_VERSION of the internal one does not matter. You need to connect to the
external database (with e.g. mysql command line client or phpmysqladmin) and
check DB_VERSION value of that database:

SELECT * FROM admin

Quite the puzzler then, I take it? Is there some possibility that it
is both storing internally and externally, and the internal version
has never upgraded since then, and that it syncs up for the most part
every now and then, so that very little of the data is lost (since all
of my tracks were there on restarting without my external database)?

Playlists may be stored in the disk or database. Play counts, statistics,
images are stored in the database unless you choose to store them in the media
files themselves (see Configure Amarok - Local Collection). In the latter
case, barely anything will be lost when database is corrupted, but Amarok will
keep modifying media files which might be what you want.

If you removed ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/mysqle with Amarok running, it might
have written data back from memory upon Amarok. As I said before, state of
internal database is not important if you are using external one.

It seems Amarok current playlist [1] has become corrupt on your system. See
these upstream bugs [2][3] how to fix that. Nevertheless, I believe that
amarok should not crash in that case so this is still a bug, however, a non

I, as Amarok maintainer, can confirm that this is probably a bug in Amarok,
not MySQL packages. Amarok is not supposed to depend on system MySQL at
runtime but currencty it does. For some reason, MySQL embedded into Amarok
ignores language directive and finds errmsg.sys in the global system path
/usr/share/mysql/english rather than the one shipped by amarok-common.

 Package: amarok
 Version: 2.5.0-1
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

Amarok crashes when selecting a track by double-clicking. This only
happens with the Xine back-end. Also, the Xine back-end doesn't output
 any sound.

Xine backend has been removed from archive:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/p/phonon-backend-xine/news/20120124T163915Z.html

It's working with VLC back-end, but sound volume is too low and there's no
 equaliser.

You can also try phonon-backend-gstreamer. Both phonon-backend-{gstreamer,vlc}
have no equalizer though.

Did you run

Also post output of

Anyway, I expect this to be system misconfiguration rather than a bug.

This is a package which provides Firefox (or Iceweasel in our case) a
better KDE integration and support, adding the following features:

 * Getting proxy configuration
 * Getting default applications by file extension, type, and protocol
 * The Open with: dialog
 * The file open dialog
 * The file save dialog, with KIO network transparency
 * The directory selection dialog
 * Opening files with default applications
 * Running applications
 * Opening the default feed reader

 * Showing KDE notifications on download completions

This is already being used in OpenSuse (which is also upstream), and also
is used in Kubuntu packaged as firefox-kde-support.
You can find upstream software here:
 http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse
And information about the Ubuntu package here:
 http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/kmozillahelper
The Debian Bug #608171 is also related to this matter.
The current KDE integration of Iceweasel has a lot to be desired compared
with the other mentioned distributions, please consider joining efforts to
make it better on Debian KDE desktop.

Well, personally I would be kind of interested in seeing better iceweasel
integration with KDE Platform. However:

1) as far as I can tell from #608171, some patch is needed for iceweasel.
Unfortunately, iceweasel maintainers do not seem very fond of it. Personally,
I'm not willing to invest my time into developing a better patch/solution for
iceweasel.

2) ITP is already owned by P. J. McDermott. So unless this is a request for
sponsorship or take over, I don't see how anybody from KDE maintainers can
help here.

What's that parameter? You seem to have come far in debugging the problem but

If the fix is trivial enough, the problem could still be solved in time for
squeeze.

In the image error.png attached there is another common problem: k3b
doesn't recognize the speed allowed (retrieved by dvd+rw-mediainfo, I
suppose) and it set a a speed who is always higher than the chosen value
(in some case limit I have saw things like 99x !)

Well, we need dvd+rw-mediainfo output then for that particular case.

 Justification: renders package unusable

No, it does not. It seems that more simple cases like DHCP, WLAN, mobile
broadband work fine. Yet knm is still fragile and that's a proof of that. So
no, it is not unusable for everyone.

When trying to use VPN or manual settings with Knetwork Manager it crashes.
KDE bug 215080 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215080 has been open
since 2009-11-18 and is no where being resolved. Please do not include
this buggy package in stable, but provide a workaround of using
 network-manager-gnome instead. I've set-up network-manager-gnome on my KDE
install and it works fine. I reverted back after months in hopes that the
bug had been fixed, but it has not.

I'm sorry, but does not work for me so do not ship it is not the way to go.
network-manager-kde or its plasma widget will work fine for many people with
less advanced needs.

What's more, there is no need to provide any workaround. Just install network-
manager-gnome if it works better for you. Nothing keeps you from doing it.

I understand your point that one user's feedback is not enough to remove
the package for everyone. However, I wonder if, as a distribution, Debian
has the choice to propose another network-manager for a default KDE
install than the one shipped upstream?

I'm sorry but there is no other alternatives available *for KDE*. network-
manager-gnome pulls in a bunch of GNOME libraries which is enough
controversial by itself for many reasons. wicd is GTK based so it could be an
option however its look and feel still does not integrate with KDE well. Given
that knm is good enough in many cases, I don't see a reason for 180 switching.
By the way, have you tried a knm plasmoid? It's preferred over network-
manager-kde nowadays.

[Pkg-kde-extras] KDE 4 HTML docs are now installed to /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML, your packages may FTBFS

2010-06-01 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hello,

Location of KDE 4 HTML documentation was changed from
/usr/share/doc/kde4/HTML to /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML as of pkg-kde-tools (=
0.9) [1] and kdelibs5-dev (= 4:4.4.4) [2].

Your packages [3] will probably FTBFS due to this change because they
reference /usr/share/doc/kde4 path in the packaging. In order to fix this:

1) replace all /usr/share/doc/kde4 references with /usr/share/doc/kde in the
packaging;
2) if the package build-depends on pkg-kde-tools and uses cdbs/kde.mk or `dh
--with kde`, tighten this build dependency to (= 0.9) and/or, if the package
depends just on kdelibs5-dev, tighten it to (= 4:4.4.4).

Pfff, awesome. That pretty much explains why ktorrent is barely seeding
anymore. I gotta love being screwed over this way and how bindv6only=1 was
squeezed to squeeze without proper announcement or explanation (there is no

Now I have no clue what's going to take to fix this bug and how intrusive the

From which version did you upgrade? ktorrent 2.2.x (lenny)? And by All

2008-11-05 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hello,

So... To me, this means that ktorrent is unusable.

Users don't know what is UDP and ktorrent can made computer slowly and
drain all battery (laptop) charge in a litle bit time.
Get the version from unstable.

If samba eat 90% of CPU, I think that developers will fix this to
Lenny, so I think that we need the same action to ktorrent too.
Frankly, 3.1.1 has many bugs including crashes, webinterface security and this
one. Even 3.1.4 is not perfect and crash bugs (new ones, not regressions)
still keep popping up. 3.1.4 has too many changes so it cannot be accepted
during freeze and I see absolutely no reason to mess with 3.1.1, it's just too
painful. Until Lenny is released, use package from unstable and when Lenny is
released, I'll make sure the latest 3.1.x release is available from
backports.org. That's the best I can do.

Oh, and you have 2.2.x as an alternative in the ktorrent2.2 package.

2008-08-18 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hi,

pirmadienis 18 rugpjūtis 2008, thacrazze rašė:
in the Amarok package is a security issue

It is fixed in Amarok 1.4.10
(http://secunia.com/advisories/31418/,
 http://amarok.kde.org/en/releases/1/4/10)
The fixed version has been in unstable for two days already. 1.4.10 is a new
upstream release but:

1. The only real change since 1.4.9.1 is the security fix mentioned above and
updates to translations.
2. The big upstream tarball diff comes from the differences in *autogenerated*
autotools stuff. However, autotools stuff is regenerated each time package is
built anyway so these differences can be safely ignored.
3. Packaging diff from 1.4.9.1-3 to 1.4.10-1 is just a new debian/changelog
entry.

Given the reasons above, please unblock amarok 1.4.10-1 and allow it to
migrate to Lenny. You can of couse delay 1.4.10-1 migration a bit if you want
since the security issue in question is not very critical.
