The first log file shows the log entries up to the "hang".
The second log file shows the entries up to and after the hang, when I
work around the "hang" by turning the power to the squeezebox classic
off and on again using the web control page and then access a playlist
and play a song.

plugin.spotty=debug - but I think you did this before, didn't you? It
would be very verbose when doing API calls, like eg. logging all data
received etc. But as long as it's hanging, there wouldn't be much :-)
I waited more than 20 sec before restarting :( LMS don't have a log to
see what's happening ?
Enable debug logging for plugin.extensions and server.plugins, then try
again. Once you've restarted, upload your server.log.zip.

that may have changed since earlier in the year when Spotty was working.
Apart from the obvious of LMS updates and Spotty updates, all I can
