Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-04-08 Thread genseng

Having trouble with playback. I get periodic stops of music during
playback. I have the most success with starting it from a browser
(open.spotify.com), selecting the device and starting playback.
Sometimes restarting the logitechmediaserver.service will fix it,
sometimes not. Sometimes I can go days without a problem.

Hardware is a linux based HTPC using an Intel i7 4700K (i.e. not a NAS).
Have no quality issues streaming Netflix so I don't think it's a
throughput issue. Would appreciate help troubleshooting if there's
anything I should be looking at. I've looked in the logs but nothing
jumped out at me related to spotty.

Is this a manually installed plugin? I would be surprised if that issue
had been there for years and nobody noticed. But missing file it's
complaining about has gone a long time ago.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-04-03 Thread Michael Herger

I'm still trying to track down why the discovery of my devices comes and
goes at what it seems random intervals. As I've mentioned before it
almost always helps to restart the server. This time however a restart
didn't help. I'm not sure if it is of interest, but in the log to me it
seems that after the restart this time it disables discovery explicitly.

Here's what you could do: when things are working, fire up the task
manager and take a note of the spotty.exe's PIDs. When issues start,
repeat and compare. If the PIDs have changed, then likely it had crashed
in between, which can obviously cause it to disappear from your phone etc.

The other thing I've seen reported before is that wiping the Spotify
app's cache did help (on the phone, not in LMS).

playlist that was started using Connect and from the Android Spotify app
(my device was obviously discovered, I now wanted to play another

The problem with the playlistman and the network issues all started
after I upgraded LMS to 7.91. Until that everything just worked. And no
I am not using any other firewall than the one installed with windows.

The player and my phone is on the same network. If I start the spotify
application on my pc it shows up on my phone. And I am using the same
account.

Sorry, MY FAULT!
MIS was not loaded! I was running on a "vanila" installation with only
the Spotty plugin loaded.
I was confused since I got some song info from the default screens,
which did not update correct (another story).

I have re-installed this box many times when supporting the development
of an "official" LMS packet for Qnap, QLMS.
QLMS now installs with a single click, all tweaks with SSL etc are
taking care of, really nice!
https://www.qnapclub.eu/sv/qpkg/545

Last "official" build, with SSOTS, was from the time of LMS 7.7.2 which
we tweaked for 7.9.1...

Now I got through all plugins... loaded and setup.

MIS shows up as beautifully as ever (just a few songs tested yet...).

I'm trying out the 2.3.0 release as well.
I'll see Spotty is more stable now...

Jump as in Audio change.
I'm rocking on, getting close to the end of the track and suddenly next
track starts.
Quite an abrupt audio experience, that's why asking...

Memory is not much on these boxes (especially with some years down the
road, what used to be much isn't anymore).
I have 1GB RAM on the one I'm using now, I monitor it relatively often
and I'm at a rather solid 58% usage (400MB free).
I have another qnap box with 2 GB, I have similar experience their but
don't use it so much for the moment.

See attached Server.log

Yeah but I like to be able to control which versions I use. It is just
so long ago I have worked with LMS (it just works) that I totally forgot
about it. Sorry for wasting your time. I have upgraded to version 2.2.2
and it works very good. Like the way it is possible to switch between
different accounts. The only thing I can't get to work is to be able to
control a player from my spotify app on my phone. Is there anything else
I should do besides check it on the menu?
I can see on the server I have 2 spotty.exe running so that is working.

Yes. Im using the smart (Dynamic) setting.
But if any of the three settings are active so should volume
normalization i Spotty.
Only if set to of, should it be of in Spotty.

I'm really looking forward to this, thank you for the effort with
implementing it :)

AFAIR the LMS replay gain settings are more granular than a simple on /

It says version 1.2.1 in LMS under the active plugin-list and also in
the install.xml file in the spotty catalog on the server.

Could it be because I have installed it manually?

I would prefer it to follow the general settings for LMS.
But in the old plugin it was a setting inside the plugins pref. And that
was fine also.

Perhaps have it follow LMS, and show the aplied setting inside Spotty
pref?

So it would say something like:

Based on LMS replay gain setting, volume normalization is enabled
(/disabled).

AFAIR the LMS replay gain settings are more granular than a simple on /
off switch, but any enabled state should enable it in Spotty also IMHO.

-Jump to next track before really finishing the current track, this
might be Spotify or the recording but I don't think so.

"jump" as in audio changes, or the metadata displayed? The latter is a
known issue: the display always is about 10s ahead of the sound.

-Stops playing, random stops in the middle of a track or while
switching. Starts again after pressing play in the Spotify app (iPhone
or windows app)
-After a few stops, like above, the song starts to repeat until I press
forward in the Spotify app.
-After a few stops, like above, the playing track in the Music info
screen of my old SB3 show the same track name, even though there are new
tracks playing.

Could you please check server.log to see whether the spotty helper had
crashed? You might need to enable INFO logging for plugin.spotty.

I'm on your 2.2 release (current) on my Qnap running the linux-i386.

How much memory?

Let me know if there is something I can to to help your investigation.
I just put the logging into INFO mode, is that the best level to get
clues?

Yes, INFO should be perfect. DEBUG is too verbose in most cases (logging
all web API traffic, incl. data returned by Spotify's servers).

If your server is a standard Win 10 PC, start with removing the 'Spotty

It has allways worked fine as a replacement, and I really like some of
the improvements, where it integrates better with the Spotify apps.

There is one functionality I miss.

Would it be possible to enable volume normalization between tracks? I
hate it with a real passion that the volume changes drastically between
numbers as it sometimes does.

The old plugin had the functionality, I really hope you can add it to

TBH: I don't know. But I'm thankful for your posting, as I was about to
drop spotty-hf. I was under the impression that either spotty or
spotty-muslhf would always work...

I don't understand why the behavior should have changed between the two
versions, as by 2.2.2 I basically was back to building like before (in
2.2.0 I used a different tool-chain, trying to cross-compile).

- spotty-hf is built on Pi3/Jessie, probably relying on the glibc
version of that system.
- therefore I introduced the muslhf variant, which should be "statically
linked", eg. not relying on glibc at all. Built on the same system.
Alas, for whatever reason it fails on some systems.
- spotty is built for an older CPU architecture (armv5), targeting the
many NAS devices out there using those CPUs. In my testing it also was
the only one compatible with Raspberry Pi0/1.

In order to figure out which one to use I the plugin tries to run each
one of them, picking the first which wouldn't crash. Alas, it seems that
the test sometimes would pass, while later on the helper would crash
anyway. Or it crashes on some action which would work perfectly fine
when run from a shell on the same system. Go figure... I'll probably add
some feature to test actual playback with all of them, working around
the need to create a symlink manually.

Thank you very Much Michael for all of your help with this. Should I
leave Spotty 2.2.3 running? Also will the symbolic link to folder
survive a reboot of the NAS, or will I have to re-apply it after a NAS
reboot? (I haven't tried this yet).

Thanks once again.

Yes - I got the old Spotty login page in LMS and in Spotify Connect I
saw "Transporter" (as opposed to LMS - connect before) and Spotify
instantly connected and played the music from Spotify. Spotty search
from the Transporter also works.

What does "ln -s spotty spotty-custom" mean exactly?

"ln -s" creates a symbolic link to a file. In this case it's creating a
directory called spotty-custom which would actually point to spotty. I
asked you to do so because Spotty would prefer "spotty-custom" over any
other. Followed by spotty-muslhf, spotty-hf, and spotty. As the first
two had some problems, I hoped the last one might work. It's built for
armv5 - an older CPU architecture, slower (no hard-float), but probably
the most compatible. By creating that link I told Spotty to use the
helper last in the priority list.

I wonder whether I should have some setting to override Spotty's default
priorities...

That's stupid: the same spotty-muslhf would crash when run from LMS.
WTF.

Could you please do another test:

- shut down LMS
- run

Code:

cd
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/Bin/arm-linux/
ln -s spotty spotty-custom

- restart LMS and run your tests

- install Spotty 2.2.3 (or whatever the latest by that time...)

Great to hear it's working!

(Cheaper alternative to buying another SD card is to just write the

:-))

I suspect there was a conflict with Max2play's Spotify Connect plugin,
which I have not installed this time.

The command you tested is something else: it's starting the connect
daemon. It's not hanging, it's waiting for you to control it. The
additional "-a" parameter you removed would have told it to authenticate
and exit.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-03-27 Thread Michael Herger

Hmm, I am not sure if I can do that from the max2play-menu. Can I check
it with a shell-command?

sure:

ls -l /path/to/cache/folder

Do you keep older versions of Spotty? I would sure like to roll one
version back from 2.2.0 ...

Yes, they are still around. Yet if it is a permissions issue, then the
roll back won't help. If you don't want to get stuck with a soon to be
outdated version you better try to help me solve the issue. Installing
plugins manually might be much more work than you'd expect, and I would
rather spend that time fixing the problem than trying to instruct people
how to stick their head in the sand :-).

Which is a good sign: spotty isn't "broken". But it seems to be unable
to do the same when run from LMS. Can you double-check permissions on
the LMS' cache folder and the spotty sub-folder in there? Would it be
writable to LMS?

2018-03-26 Thread Michael Herger

Yes avahi-daemon.service is running.

That's a problem for the multi-user case: there's a conflict between
avahi and spotty's discovery mode. And with the local discovery disabled
you wouldn't be able to play to Spotty Connect from other accounts than
the one selected on the SB.

Michael probably wouldn't mention it, but you can send a donation via
PayPal.

Now that I have mentioned it, perhaps he or someone else will give you a
link. He has probably already run through the beer money I sent ;)

It is not relevant as long as you don't have a premium account. But
Spotty can't tell you you need a Premium account in response to your
authentication attempt, as it requires that module to figure out your
account isn't premium. :-)

Hi Michael,

So the Perl error shown above is not relevant, since I do not own a
Premium account, right?

I am running LMS 7.9.0 on an Unraid NAS, under a Docker, if you know
what I mean (kind of container that runs LMS under a virtual machine).
Anyway, Spotify does not see the Spotty plugin running under my LMS.
Is that because I am using a free account, therefore no login?

You need a premium account. And then you need to configure that account
in Spotty's settings.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-03-26 Thread xtrips

Hello,

I am running LMS 7.9.0 on an Unraid NAS, under a Docker, if you know
what I mean (kind of container that runs LMS under a virtual machine).
Anyway, Spotify does not see the Spotty plugin running under my LMS.
Is that because I am using a free account, therefore no login?
Or is it because Spotty uses a specific TCP port?
Because if it is a port problem I need to know which one it is and open
it under the Docker (virtual machine) parameters.

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-03-26 Thread Michael Herger

Yes - I tried connecting from the Spotify App first. It "tries" for
about 10 seconds (greyed-out) then fails and pauses the music. Music is
still set to play from the phone when you un-pause it. Password is 8
characters, all letters with one number and no special characters.

If you look at your log file, you'd see a command line like I just
posted (probably different paths). Could you please try to run this from
a shell, too?

Spotify connect works only with account that is selected in spotty. If
my home-account is selected, neither I or my wife can connect to my
Squeezebox on our phones. If my phone's account is selected, I can
connect but she doesn't.

Do you know whether vortexbox is running avahi or something?
