I don't think I've seen this mentioned. MacTCP is infamous for it's
problems with BootP. IIRC it doesn't use DHCP.

My machine is a 166 with 40 MB RAM and runs OS 9.1 just fine.
Not as snappy as 8.6 with low RAM space but I like the features enough to put
up with the trade off.
Also some software needs OS 9
A 133 may be better off with 8.6 though
I just purchased SpeedDoubler and RamDoubler off ebay and I will tell

With those specs, I would clearly advise upgrading the RAM in your
1400. It really takes 64 MB of RAM to really make 9 sing, at the least.
Of course, I haven't run 9 on anything less than a G3 Lombard with 192
MB of RAM and the 400 MHz processor, so I can't speak for a 1400.

causing the problem, but now it works OK. I think I will disassemble a

I'd check the contacts on the sleep actuator, first. I really don't
have any 1400 experience, but I did that with my 190 and it worked.
As far as not caring about 1400s, I never really had a reason to, but
I've never owned one, so.. I did get a new laptop for my birthday, so
that part's

Is there a way to make my PB 1400cs brighter or does it's gradual dimming
over the years mean I need to replace the LCD screen? It's getting pretty

I have a 1400/G3/9.1 with a working Orinoco gold 802.11b card or a
3COM ethernet card for connectivity.
