So, I made a new session, then hit command+option+I, to import midi. I opened my .mid file, hit space to play, and nothing. Using the virutal instruments would be nice in the long run, and yeah, I do have them, but for start, even just getting any midi out would be nice. Any ideas?

There're two ways you can do this. You either can interact with your name track list table, then hit vo+space to select the track in question, then once done, hit vo+F3 to be sure that the track is indeed selected. Next, press vo+shift+M to get your context menu, then go to rename. In
