I have been looking at Atom based systems for a while. I keep drooling over
these cheapo, compact, low power units.
I'd really like to replace my 1Ghz, 1GB, 1U machine running pfSense with one.
Are these things supported in pfSense?
Is anyone using them or can recommend a board or specific

It depends on what you're going to run -- embedded or with room for
add-ons. They're both great.

I have managed (thanks to help on this list) to get my ALIX board running a

So I assume this means that it will work for a 3G USB Stick, not just WiFi?
If so, I wonder if I can just get a used Dish Network or DirecTV dish and use
that. They're super cheap and look like they're already tuned.

It did not happen with the other connection. But the previous firewall didn’t

Thanks everyone... I should clarify a little more of what my worry is.
Specifically the 4 machines downloading updates at the exact same time and
taking the internet connection to its knees probably isn't too realistic a
scenario. We did do it in the middle of the night, so it can happen, but
that four computers
downloading a few patches from Windows Update can bring a T1 to its knees.
It sounds like there may be other issues here, and only testing and
verification will the root cause to light.

Thanks… I am going to follow up with AllStream. The bytes/sec are the Max and
