Re: 5.3.2.5 / MIME forwarding messages as .eml files
How in the world is it potentially dangerous? No idea, but MANY servers will bounce them if attached. MSG files go through I'm using MIME forwarding for more than 10 years now and I yet to find at least one server which bounces EML messages. Never rejected here as well . BTW, what would you guys say if instead of numbers (1.eml, 2.eml, ) Subject of the e-mail is used as a file name (or if mouse over EML attachment a hint showing basic data (ex: Sender, Subject, Date, ) is shown like a hint. At the moment when I FWD some messages and there is more than one attached sometimes you need to open all of them to find a correct one... Re: Backup Restore Synchronise broken
Hi Tony, Used it between W7 machines (notebook and desktop) as well couple times and was all good. Were these successes with recent versions? I have just tried again still the same problem. I have about 20 email accounts to manage, mostly IMAP and I wasn't synching messages just address books and settings. I was backing up and restoring whole stuff (e-mails, addresses) into one TBK, never tried partial restore. All my accounts are POP3. Between Vista and W7 last time was about 9 month ago (you will have to check which version was up to date then). Between W7 machines last time was about 3 month ago ; too much traveling lately so it sits all the time on my notebook. I tried to use Voyager as well but IMO it's not user friendly process and apart of first successful sync to Voyager I couldn't get it running properly (sync of 9GB takes too long as well ; apart of the fact that I had to use huge USB stick to sync (more than twice of the size of the archive = 19GB at least...)). -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.6.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Thursday, October 11, 2012 (22:01 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.3.2.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: TB 5.2.1.2 (but also present in previous build): sender blank ininbox message list (it shows in message detail though) forcertain messages
Hi Thomas, I'm not RIT, but I speak from experience with them. If you want feedback and results, it is always better to report to the bugtracker. Most people use this list only to see whether anybody can confirm the bug, or whether it is local to one's machine. Well, I do not have as much faith as you do or rather I should say I lost it somewhere on the way. Easily reported almost 30 bugs to a previous bugtracker (as well as provided developers with sample e-mails and data that were requested that caused problem) and almost nothing has changed within a whole year (apart of one bug being fixed) If I did waste money? Well, the answer is not so easy :) TB! gives me some functionality that is missing in other clients. ... it's the only reason I do still use it (ie: Quick Search but it's malfunctioning if you try to QS over foreign alphabets... ; filters - that are pissing me off lately quite often (last few versions) because something was changed and e-mails are quite often removed from VF while still reading it). If I purchase another copy for my desktop (would be nice to have it on both computers ; could reconsider it if it works properly and basic things are fixed, ex: coding problems) or renew a current one valid till 6.0.99? Unfortunately answer is negative. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.6.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Tuesday, September 18, 2012 (23:49 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.2.1.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Character coding not recognized
Hi Martin, Got an email an the recent TheBat! displayed it not correctly - seems that it didn't recognize the character coding - the message is displayed with the default coding - but in my opinion it should be displayed with the coding sent in the message header. --Apple-Mail=_8DB3485B-FEB3-41CF-999F-44FA7187A5CF Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Reported it to Ritlab over one year ago and passed to them some sample message that were affected by that and nothing happened For me it's mostly messages in Chinese from time to time messages in Polish (W7 x64 ENG version). What is funny (and tragic at the same time) is that coding of most of the messages is recognized and set properly but you get a garbage on the screen. Work around is to click any other character coding and back the proper coding (even if detected by TB! properly at the beginning) ; it will let you read the message. Trouble starts when you need to reply to such a message ; even if you correct display manually and hit reply what you get in reply message is to be a garbage... You need to copy paste properly encoded part unless you are willing to reply with half-garbage message. Ritlab could stop adding features to TB! for a while and focus on repairing what is broken. Anyway, it's a last copy of TB! Missing thumbnails in TB! Viewer
Hi, If The Bat! Viewer is used and message contains lots of thumbnails some of thumbnails are displayed with heavy delay (1-3 minutes) or are not displayed at all (waited for 5 minutes here). Above behavior happens as well if System Viewer is used but TB! rules are on (checked on a few Allegro.pl update e-mails). If it's tested under System Viewer (Internet Explorer Rules) all is good and messages were displayed almost instantly. When I pressed on Downloader part: Accept all from that sender It crashed TB! (not enough memory ; BTW, wondering here why I got the message in Polish if TB! is set to work in English) with constantly popping up message error. Looks like TB! is not handling properly messages if there are lot of thumbnails (apart of previously reported hungriness for memory (up to additional 45MB) if such message is selected). TB! Heavy Load on CPU
Hi, For last two days I noticed that TB! is using lot's of power on my notebook. CPU LOAD: - after TB! is started: 50-65% of CPU Load for 1.5-2min (with peaks up to 88%), - next 6-7 minutes it's mostly at 25-32%, - gets down to close to zero after 8-9 minutes. As it's i7 U640 1.2GHz machine getting so high load for first 10 minutes is rather something that should not happen. It makes notebook a bit unresponsive as well (especially if you try to open attachment from the e-mail). On e-mails with embedded graphics it chokes from time to time for a second as well. Checked database for errors - all was good apart of one folder (wondering here why the error message is not shown in RED nor window is scallable ; makes it hard to find where the error happened if you have many folders (300+ here)). Anyone has any idea what could be the reason for so high CPU load? Is my database too big for TB!? TB! freeze extensive memory usage (Allegro - Items Newsletter)
Hi, I'm subscribed to Allegro daily newsletter (it's Polish e-bay). Every day they send an e-mail with offers that could match my search results (links to thumbnails are embedded in e-mail body). My search conditions are quite wide and sometimes a list of items is 600+ positions. My issue here is: - TB! freeze for about 1-1.5min when e-mail is opened for the first time, - CPU usage jumps to 55-75% ; memory usage jumps from 80MB to 125MB for that e-mail, - any another opening of an e-mail freezes TB! for about 10-12s, (CPU usage 25-30%, Memory: 125MB) - thumbnails that were not fetch during the first time are not reloaded and empty icon is shown (no matter if you wait or reopen message). Have anyone using Allegro newsletter had similar experience? TB! response time gives for sure bad impression to the user but some could say that it's too big. Well, if it happens an approach how to handle such files can be changed :) The second matter is not re-fetching missing images (even if message is reopened) - it's something that I would consider as a bug. Such thumbnails should be marked as missing and client should try to get them after a while. MEMORY CONSUMPTION Single JPG thumbnail size is about 3.5-4kB ; so even if we have 1000 thumbnails it would give 4MB ; not sure why 45MB is used to render the e-mail After a switch to another e-mail memory usage is down to 80MB at once. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Friday, July 6, 2012 (10:37 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.6.7 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Question about Quick Filter button in Status bar
Hi MAU, You got it! Yes, you are right. If I select a filter tab I also get the filter button in all folders now. As I wrote yesterday, I still wonder what's the logic to not show the button when the All tab is selected, it would also be useful in that case. Nice feature however Quick Filter for 'still' expression in TBBETA folder and selecting later Advanced Filtering (addition of: AND AGE less than 2 days) didn't filter out messages because of OR expressions between SENDER/SUBJECT/MEMO set as separated conditions. At the moment any Advanced Filtering will refer only to last OR condition (MEMO) no matter if AND/OR/OTHER are selected (Boolean Logic operations order rules). Due to fact that Quick Filtering consists of separated conditions and is not blocked (NEWLY ADDED condition is Blocked (if it's for instance Sender) or single cell if it's an AGE). BTW, on my OS if I reopen filtering expressions height of cells is changing about 4-5 times and they do overlap each other in some cases ; if new condition is added or cell value changed all cells height becomes correct at once (and all moves up) but if it was a block only inside conditions cells height are updated but not block height - makes you to scroll down quite a lot if there are more blocks and conditions. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Thursday, June 28, 2012 (14:42 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.6.7 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Missing From on messages list (and possibly incorrect behaviour for Reply All)
Hi, From cell is empty on messages list - makes it at least hard to use :) Happened for the first time so it's likely that it's connected with message formatting. As you can see in message source SENDER_NAME in a cell FROM is missing and only e-mail address is available there. Received: from WIN7U- ([XX.XX.XX.XXX]) (envelope-sender xxx...@xxx.net) by XXX.XX.XX.X with ESMTP for y...@.pl; Wed, 27 Jun 2012 20:33:32 +0800 Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2012 20:32:11 +0800 From: xx...@x.net To: MY_NAME_HERE y...@.pl Reply-To: SENDER_NAME_HERE xx...@x.net Subject: X-Priority: 3 X-Has-Attach: yes X-Mailer: Foxmail 7.0.1.90[cn] Mime-Version: 1.0 Looks like it's sender mistake, however, e-mail address is known so in case if there is no defined string for a SENDER_NAME in FROM cell (or it's an empty string), IMO e-mail address should be used to define sender instead of an empty string. REPLY-TO cell is correct, however: - pressing Reply puts data from REPLY-TO cell, (SENDER_NAME_HERE xx...@x.net) - pressing Reply-All uses data with empty string FROM ( xx...@x.net). Re: Filters working in v5?
Hi Vilius, Another problem with IMAP is that the messages have to actually be kept on the server. DC that's not the problem with IMAP, it's the beauty of IMAP. It's the DC whole point. This also goes into another philosophy: Do we want to keep our own data or do we want to put all our eggs in one cloud whose keepers we have to trust. The mods will slap us soon for off-topic discussions. Even if using POP, how would you know if mail server admin doesn't forward all your messages internally to his account? If you cannot trust your mail provider it doesn't matter if it's IMAP or POP. I think that the matter here was not a leak of information but rather a trust that person on the other side is reliable as a professional should be and won't make mistake while backing up and storing your our data. Such mistakes happens even to the best and as far as I remember couple years ago there was a case of AOL (if I'm not mistaken it was AOL) where they lost main data and back-up data of their customers. Anyway, not looking too far away, an example of TBBETA list shows that such thing can happen even to people that are rather pros. I do keep my back-up on two BD disks about 3 times a year (different brands) and do try to back-up TBK archive to another HDD once a month as well as I do save all sent/received e-mail as EML and my OS auto sync it daily to my third HDD at night). There is one more thing I do, 2-3 times a month I do upload encrypted with 7ZIP EML to European remote computer (used by my parents). Chances that all backups die at the same time (especially the one on remote computer are slim). Why so many HDD backups and a remote backup? Within last 4 years I had 3 HDD that died (two of them almost simultaneously ; all of them were below 2 years old) and I had to buy new ones... Re: 5.1.6.2 VF bug still there
Hi Dwight, CGS I disagree. Almost every email client/interface on this planet, CGS from Hotmail to the iPhone, marks an email as read when you open CGS it for reading. And this for good reason: Usually people read an CGS email after they open it, which is generally the purpose of CGS opening an email. Having to manually mark them as read, CGS especially when using the mouse, is an unnecessary task. DC unless there is some reason why marking it read right away DC interferes with what one wants to do with the message In example you read or just scan a message but you don't have time to deal with it at the moment . In that way it stays in example in your main (cumulative) folder and waits for it's turn. Solution would be creating additional VF and tag messages somehow but for instance in my TB! all VF values are reset to zero and in that way if I use that solution I will not know that there is any message pending to be handled... -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Tuesday, May 22, 2012 (01:45 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.4.0 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: 5.1.6.2 VF bug still there
Hi Paul, CGS Probably the best (and easiest) way to handle this would be that CGS a VF, while open, does not remove any messages automatically, and CGS only adds the new ones. Removing only takes place once you either CGS refresh manually or leave the VF. That's how v4 handled it and CGS it definitely made sense. P Agreed... see below... Agreed as well. One more thing is that if new messages in the folder are selected for reading they are marked automatically as Read - that is logical and if there is no other action from a user side filter should be triggered when user moves to next message. But if user decided to keep message as UnRead with CTRL+U filter is still triggered after you move to next message and UnRead message is filtered out. IMO, if user decides to keep message UnRead filter should not be triggered. Just an observation. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Monday, May 21, 2012 (00:14 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.4.0 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

You might be right about that ; however, I get about 50-100 messages a day and most of them are to be marked as Read while opened. Just a few of them are to still stay as UnRead for further processing. So, in my case using that option as checked is helpful so I do not have to manually mark 100 messages a day :) What I meant here was only that if user decides to keep a message as UnRead filter shall not be triggered (user marking it as UnRead after check-up may rather be willing to leave it for further processing in the folder where it is at the moment than have it moved). If I'm mistaken I do not see much sense in an option to mark the message as UrRead if it's to be moved out somewhere and anyway I need to look for it in the depth of the folders :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Monday, May 21, 2012 (01:24 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.4.0 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Filtering out messages
Hi, I have set messages to be moved to one folder on arrival from a couple of POP3 accounts and then other filters are set to be triggered while Reading the e-mail. As for now it mostly works apart but: - if I don't want to read each of them and mark couple of e-mails and press CTRL+M they are not processed and stay in the general folder up to the moment I manually filter the folder. That behavior was like that for long time ; nothing not to be able to live with just wondering why CTRL+M makes filters not to be triggered. It's a manual mark Read order so IMO should work the same way as checking e-mail. Am I mistaken here? - in v.5 it happens from time to time that e-mail is filtered to a certain folder without me reading it. I know that because it's still marked as unread on the Message Ticker but not in General Inbox. That part is a bit random. In that case for a certain sender mostly e-mails stay in General Inbox up to the moment they are read but sometimes they are filtered out before reading. I do see that problem for about 1-1.5 month. Happens not so often and Message Ticker is on so can live with it for some time :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Friday, May 11, 2012 (10:06 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.4.0 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Filtering out messages
Hi Roger, RF I have set messages to be moved to one folder on arrival from a couple RF of POP3 accounts and then other filters are set to be triggered while RF Reading the e-mail. RO I think you are referring to 'Read' filters. In version 5 RO these filters are ONLY triggered if you use the 'Smart spacebar' RO to mark the message as having been read. Nothing else triggers RO these filters! IMHO a retrograde step from version 4. Yes, I meant Read Filters. IMO CTRL+M or opening from Mail Ticker should trigger filter as well (as far as I remember it was like that in v4). -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Friday, May 11, 2012 (13:47 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.4.0 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Crossed Message
Hi, Probably quite a naive question but can't find any hint for that... What does it mean if a message I sent to somebody becomes crossed (double line I think). What's interesting I can't find that message after switching folder. The other person is using Outlook. Re: Filters working in v5? (Securing your hardware) :)
Hi Tony, TO Luckily, most of us don't live in China and have to worry about TO security to that extent. Do you have TrueCrypt set up for hidden TO volumes and plausible deniability? Only a small one for most important files (ex: passwords and user names file) but I made it rather as a test. There was a case of Brasilian banker that encrypted his HDD with TC (AES only) ; when police confiscated HDD they tried to decrypt it (with FBI help) for 18 month and failed. On my HDD (apart of OS) you have triple encryption on any container/partition with a keyfile so it's rather unbreakable within reasonable time. TC for me is rather to protect me when laptop is lost than to try to hide data from police (no matter if I think they have right to spy on us all the time ; ex: Google Drive, Dropbox, TuneIn, VoIP connection software on my Android phone and many more are already blocked in China because police can't control moved data). It's one of the reasons why apart of protecting my data against ordinary theft I do try to protect my privacy :) IMO hidden volume can be detected in the container even if you cooperate with police - there will be a size difference of data copied to a container and container size (unless I'm mistaken here). IMO, much better to claim plausible deniability is encrypting a raw clusters on the HDD (ex: external). In that way data on such HDD looks like a rubbish without any structure nor readable header to see what's there unless you know the password or a keyfile. Each time you connect such HDD to your system Windows is reporting unformatted drive and asks to format it. As for AES hardware encrypted USB it's possible that you might not know the password if ie. your kid for instance changed it long time ago :) Life is life ;P TO If you use a VPN to a trusted server in EU/US, aren't you better TO off leaving you email on the trusted IMAP server so if you do TO loose your laptop again, your email is easily recoverable? First is the size (over 6GB database), second is that I can do the same with TBK archive copied in TC container and burnt on DL DVD. Actually I have all e-mails doubled because every e-mail I sent and receive is saved on HDD as EML and I do make copies of it. I do burn on DVD TC containers so even if somebody gets it they can't read it. Last thing is that I do not have much trust in IMAP and leaving your data on some server ; even big companies lost customers data due to mistakes - you can call me old fashioned here but if it's lost I can only blame myself :) I do appreciate that some unlucky people have a real need to protect themselves from serious danger and to leave as little trace as possible. My TB installation on my laptop is password protected and 'On the Fly' encrypted. Any idea how secure that is? Sorry, I don't know. I would love to know what encryption is used by Ritlab. As for now I use non-encrypted TB! installed on separated TC container and it works good for me. I used on-fly-encrypted version first I installed TB! but had to switch to none-encrypted due to some problems I had with it (don't remember now what it was ; reported it on BugTraq but it's gone now). Tried to use Voyager that is on-fly-encrypted on my 32GB USB but it didn't work good. I mean here that Voyager worked good but sync to a my desktop failed 3 times in a raw so I just gave it up. At the moment I just use TBK to move it between laptop-desktop if I need to travel. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Wednesday, May 2, 2012 (19:08 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.2.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Filters working in v5? (Securing your hardware) :)
Hi Raymund, RA if your mail is that interesting to an attacker he/she/it will RA find a way to get it from your computer as well... You're right in your statement but cost vs value is a question here :) In my case no one will try to get my data ; way too much work to do :) 1. True Crypt Encrypted HDD (Serpent-Twofish-AES with SHA512 hash) and encrypted not with a password but SHA-512 keyfile, 2. Keyfile could be stolen so it's on hardware AES encrypted USB with small/capitalized letters and digits (3 wrong passwords and you can only format it ; unless Sandisk included some backdoor in it :)) ; I do have 2 copies of such USB in separated places of the world (and I'm the only person that knows where it is :)), 3. Notebook camera is set to facial recognition and if I'm gone for about 2s it locks down and my face and password are required to get an access (only drawback here is a need for decent light conditions). Password is not a word but mixture of small/capital letters and digits. 4. USB ports are turn-off and not accessible up to the moment you Unlock them after plugging in a USB drive. 5. All my portable HDD/USB are TC encrypted with keyfiles. 6. Password on BIOS That one is only to slow common thieves down and not to get HDD formatted within first 1-2 hours after your notebook is gone. 7. E-mail clients and browsers are set up to connect to Internet over encrypted VPN ; have that option enabled as well for a whole OS (two reasons here): a) Higher security (as I never had enough time to dig up a matter of e-mail encryption ; anyway if I'm not mistaken recipient must to do some work on his end as well and probably most people would not be able to do that properly) b) I'm in China and amazingly quite often connecting to US/EU server even through EU VPN is faster than direct connection from China (no comment here) and more stable (no Time Outs ; before on Chinese cable connection I had sometimes up to 90% of time out from time to time), There is one more option in my notebook BIOS: Computrace but I didn't dare to turn it on because as per info I've found it can't be turn off by a user (remote company must reset your notebook) nor uninstalled from BIOS after it's set active (if BIOS is reflashed it's repairing itself). Why to do that? My previous notebook was once stolen and had only BIOS protection so data were fully accessible if HDD is taken out and connected to other machine. However, that BIOS saved HDD from being formatted before I luckily found it and bought it back. At least make them not be able to read your data or sweat while trying to access it ; if you're not lucky enough to get it back fast enough :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Wednesday, May 2, 2012 (00:34 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.2.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi All, 1. True Crypt Encrypted HDD (Serpent-Twofish-AES with SHA512 hash) and encrypted not with a password but SHA-512 keyfile, Mistyped here ; I wrote OS but meant other containers. OS is AES encrypted with a password and containers are Serpent-Twofish-AES encrypted (mounted separately). All data are set to non-OS partition but to separated container mounted as a drive after OS is up (ex: TB!'s data folder). Keyfiles and Containers headers are saved on AES hardware encrypted USB (headers are to be used if something happens to the container ; so far never had to use them (luckily)). Rest of the info was correct. Hi Raymund, Hi RS, In 5.1.2 version can't open news web pages by clicking left button on message description. It was working in previous versions for over 1 year (just checked a message from 6 month ago). Did you use 'system viewer' or the internal one? Never checked it before (worked before right after TB! was installed). In Preferences TB! was set as 'Use system HTML viewer (BETA)' (B). After switch to 'Use The Bat HTML Viewer' (A) it works now and Opera is up with a new page opened :) However, there is something strange behavior: - if A is selected and link opens properly I can switch to B and it's opening properly as well ; - after I switch to a new message with B still selected (just a sec ago links were opening properly) TB! freeze for a few seconds again, - if switch to A without changing message ; links are not opening, - of switch to A and switch to a new message links are opening. Looks like that switching A-B or B-A result is taken into consideration passed only after there is a switch to a new message and current message is not reprocessed for new HTML conditions. Thanks for a tip :) Set it up to A (Use The Bat HTML Viewer) and it works now. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Friday, April 27, 2012 (23:05 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.0.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

RS However, there is something strange behavior: RS - if A is selected and link opens properly I can switch to B and RS it's opening properly as well ; RA Let me guess Opera was still open? Yes, why should I close it ; tons of pages are opened :) Will try during next reset if it has any influence on behavior. RS Set it up to A (Use The Bat HTML Viewer) and it works now. RA Good. I wonder anyway why the 'system viewer' is the default now. RA There were some complaints about the internal viewer but not so RA many that I would vote for a change of the default. No idea ; just was surprised that something that worked just stopped working. Anyway, if it's marked as BETA it should not be set as default - just my opinion. Re: Opening newsletter messages and copying its shortcut
Hi Raymund, RS If you mean uninstall TB! according to Ritlab notes and RS installing a new one I would say YES :) RA Uh, they have that in the notes? I never followed that :-) You need to uninstall it through Modify and than Uninstall not direct uninstall. However, even if you select that database is to be uninstalled as well it stays on the HDD after TB! claims that it's all over (in my case it was over 4GB just sitting in a folder and I was surprised after I found it still there). Same is with lots of registry entries that are not removed during uninstall. I reported it as a bug long time ago. As per Ritlab's reply they prefer to remove less than too much. I do not agree with such approach, if user selects uninstall he expects all of it to be removed by uninstaller instead being forced to clean it up manually (data from HDD and TB!'s entries in registry). But it's just my opinion. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Saturday, April 28, 2012 (00:28 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.0.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Opening newsletter messages and copying its shortcut
Hi Raymund, RS surprised after I found it still there). Same is with lots of RS registry entries that are not removed during uninstall. RA That is a Windows Installer behaviour that can't be helped. The WI RA is designed to work on corporate machines and soho (small office RA home use) computers and while on a local computer you might be RA able to clear the registry keys of not logged in user that will RA already fail if that user selected to keep her data private. OK, so that one would be Registry part, however, Ritlab could make a small program designated to clean up what was left for single copy and single users (as I am) OR at least prepare detailed guide how to clean it up. Not every one is an expert OR likes to play with Registry. Just a wish here :) As for left data, there should be some pop-up message that data were left on the HDD at X location and size of data is Y. There is none at the moment so user doesn't know that something is still there ; I found it by accident because I was short of 4GB on my laptop. If it's smaller database I might not to see it for a long time... From my point of view leaving data is acceptable if there is detailed report as described above. Personally I would remove such data with Eraser so they are overwritten couple of times ; but I need to know that they are still there :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.1.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) POP3 accounts (x5) Saturday, April 28, 2012 (08:58 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.0.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Messages coding problem in v5.1.2 (Simplified Traditional Chinese ; Polish)
Hi, I'm a bit confused with: View-Character Set in the main drop down menu on the main window and Right Mouse Click-Encoding option on the message window when it's opened. Will call later on first one A) and second one B). Message is in UTF-8 ; OS is English. What is a difference between them? Shouldn't just setting A be enough? Now to display properly Simplified message I need NOT TO modify A (let TB! to detect it) BUT additionally I need to set B. However, there are following issues for Simplified Chinese: - if A is set to autodetect Chinese Simplified messages I have are displayed in Cyrillic (embedded graphics in messages is replaced by Cyrillic strings as well). - if TB! B section is set to AutoDetect almost each Simplified Chinese (S_CHN) message is displayed improperly (A is detected as UTF-8 - proper ; B was set by default to Western European (Windows) - AutoDetect Option was not active). If you turn off AutoDetect and turn it on - message is displayed properly. When you go to other message and back to that one it's wrong again up to the moment it's manually corrected. For some reasons TB! first AutoDetect identifies it as GB2312 but second AutoDetect (manual one) identifies it as UTF-8 (that is proper). - After message is manually re-AutoDetected and clicked twice to open, previously selected encoding is reset to GB2312 despite that it was just properly re-AutoDetected. After re-AutoDetected again it's good again. - After above properly re-AutoDetected message is reply message is coded in UTF-8 but probably Chinese characters were again enforced to GB2312 and that makes all Chinese part unreadable while Reply to. TRADITIONAL CHINESE I was not able to properly display a message coded in GBK. Some characters were replaced by question marks. For some reasons TB! detected it as UTF-8 while it's coded in GBK. --Apple-Mail-71-707530316 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset=GBK Reply to such message scrambles all message as it was detected as UTF-8 and TB! codes it in UTF-8 while it's in GBK. Hi Viktor, Hello RS, Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 3:56:06 PM, you wrote: BUT my messages were detected properly as UTF-8 but not displayed properly. When I switched coding to something else and back to UTF-8 they were fine. For me personally the problem mainly was connected with messages send in Polish or Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). Probably the encoding was simply not applied. My messages are in Czech, but IMO we can safely suppose the problem doesn't depend on the language, but on the encoding. Encoding read out of the email doesn't seem to be correctly passed to the system viewer. If the HTML itself bore a correct header, all may have been OK. But in these messages, the HTML just starts right off with text. The internal viewer shows them properly right from the start. You might be right, however for instance for Polish it makes the message bad looking but you can understand it but for Chinese it makes it completely unreadable (especially if it contains Simplified and Traditional Chinese). If you reply to a message in Simplified Chinese but somebody before typed there in Traditional Chinese ; Traditional Chinese part becomes complete garbage. BTW, looks like something has changed in that version because a trick I described before is not working anymore for me on two Chinese messages I just tried. Autodetect displayed message in Cyrillic. Re: 5.1.2.: System HTML viewer incorrectly displays UTF-8 HTML messages without correct HTML structure
Hi Raymund, I would expect that the system viewer does not see the Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit part. As the message doesn't contain a meta tag with the information that the content is indeed UTF-8 it uses what ever it thinks is correct. Which it obviously fails to determine correctly. I would say the fault is on Thunderbirds sise here that it is not specifying the meta tag. Maybe you're right but try to reply to a message that is mixed with Traditional and Simplified Chinese and explain to this people why your client's e-mail is half unreadable... When I replied to a first message I didn't realize that part of it became unreadable because it was in the part that was not visible while typing (e-mail was long). Original e-mail I refer to was created in Apple Mail in Traditional Chinese ; after that replied in Simplified Chinese (Chinese OS) with Foxmail (quite popular in China as far as I know) and received in TB! where I tried to reply to it and had to remove half of the thread that was in Traditional Chinese because it was all scrambled. I do like TB! but it's a bit humiliating when it comes to such situation and they do tell me to switch to Outlook or Thunderbird. Especially that it's not a freeware. Anyway, just realized that all Traditional Chinese messages I have are now completely unreadable in that version. Even if enforcing UTF-8 nothing is happening. Hi vano, We have lost the mantis bugtracker database. We are sorry about that and would like to apologize for your efforts being lost. Could you please visit the www.ritlabs.com/bt/ URL again and create new logins for you. Created a new login but all is empty... Re: TB! AutoBackup Issue (Can't turn it off)
Hi Raymund, Somehow current version of TB! is still doing autobackup everyday despite that AutoBackup option is not checked in Preferences of currently installed client. As the Windows Installer does not remove the registry keys in the user hives the autobackup settings are likely to be still in place. TB! tends to not correctly update these values in the UI for some reasons. You might test this by closing TB! and renaming the key RIT in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software to something and restart TB! check if auto backup still happens. If I'm not mistaken such change is not only to affect AutoBackup part but all TB!'s settings (anyway will try later on). BTW, just check registry and I do not see autobackup entry under Rit. Only BackupVersionWarning corresponds to Backups. Thanks for advice :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.0.36.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Sunday, April 22, 2012 (15:25 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.0.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
TB! AutoBackup Issue (Can't turn it off)
Hi, I have a problem with an AutoBackup feature in TB!. Couple month ago I have uninstalled TB! according to RitLab notes in uninstaller and I installed new version over it and imported TBK. Somehow current version of TB! is still doing autobackup everyday despite that AutoBackup option is not checked in Preferences of currently installed client. As my TBK file is 5GB if I forget about leaving over 5GB free on that partition after scheduling other tasks ; if TB! AutoBackup kicks in I'm running out of space for other scheduled tasks. Any idea how to get it corrected? Obviously marking off AutoBackup in preferences nor changing it's kick in time to a week or something is not working... BTW, I still think that if a user chooses to uninstall the software all information from registry concerning the client should be removed as well while uninstalling. As far as I know it's not RitLab's approach and they are not cleaned but left there same as TBN and TBB files on the HDD. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.0.36.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Sunday, April 22, 2012 (13:42 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.1.0.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Language Related Bugs (Summary of such bugs reported by me)
Hi, It's a summary of bugs reported by me and related to a lack of TB!'s compatibility of the solution used in The Bat! concerning message display on none native OS. Why did I write that e-mail? I didn't pay for a client I can't read messages with or I need to manually switch coding back and forth to make it readable. Despite of my good will toward Ritlabs and TB! I'm slowly getting to a threshold when TB! is going to loose a client... Some of bugs (if not all of them) are not only Chinese related but as proved before they do exist as well for messages for example in Polish language on other language OS. None of enlisted below problems was observed on the same messages in Outlook nor in Thunderbird. In such case it's an obvious client's incompatibility matter (not a third party's fault). So far none of reported language incompatibilities was fixed. Not even a person was appointed to start dealing with the problem. I do hope that Ritlabs care about their clients and will start doing something to keep existing clients. I do hope that somebody responsible for decision is reading that forum as well... SUMMARY: 1. Re: My own TB! Archive
Hi Eddie, EC [1] When has the file Format being change? Could this be the reason? That was changed with v4.1 As you needed to upgrade (pay money) from v3 to be able to use v4.1 I don't know when or if you did that upgrade The first v4.1 release was the Christmas release of 2008, so if you've been current, the message base format should not be the problem. It was sure v4 that I used when creating that Archive. Had that issue once ; created TBK in v.4.2.1 and tried to import into v.5 - didn't import claiming that file is incorrect. As the second TBK imported without any problem I did blame it on file corruption. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 5.0.24 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Thursday, December 15, 2011 (14:41 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.26.18 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi Ivan, Filters and virtual folder settings reside in mailbox rather than registry. I think you can use backup/restore function. Used it before after un-installing TB! according to the info but old data are used on a newly installed version after importing TBK. Virtual Folders empty after recovery from TBK
Hi, No idea what happened but all VF are empty after I imported TBK file to newly installed TB!. Re: Import from Thunderbird partially broken?
Hi Marek, I do not know yet what versions of Thunderbird were used, I wanted to ask list, if somebody observed anything related. I did observed something similar but finally it occurred that all messages were imported. I did saved out all messages from Thunderbird into EML format and imported them into TB! in groups. The problem was that number of messages saved as EML was bigger than number of messages shown by TB! after import. It was a few thousand EML files all together but I did check what was missing. The source of the problem was that a few messages were sent to me from Outlook Express and they were sent due to size as multi part message. ThunderBird while saving it saved them separately each part ; TB! had parsed them and made a single message from multi part message. Maybe it's the reason. All together I did import from ThunderBird through EML over 30k messages and none was missing. Import was made to both v.4 and v5. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Monday, October 10, 2011 (15:23 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.26.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Parsing a message body for Time/Date in a footer
Hi, Does anyone has an idea how can I parse a message body directly within TB!? Made some attempts but failed and wondering if it's possible or not ;) Would rather be happy if I can avoid saving a message to TXT and writing a program to dig out that data :) I want TB! to parse message for first occurrence of the footer and get as an output a Date/Time information from the footer (it would be a real point of the time when I started working on the answer for an e-mail or on the new e-mail). Footer very similar to the one at the end of the message. I want to sent that to TXT file: time/date, along with sending out time/date and other info but the only problem at the moment is parsing the message for the date time I started working over the message (other info is not a problem). Additional parameter I want to pass is declared by me in RFC header 'Matter' (X-Matter: Other) All above would allow me to import that TXT file to Open Office and swiftly calculate time I spend on each project while typing a reply. As for that message I could get info in TXT file as follows: Wednesday, August 21, 2011 (00:48 ; GMT+8) ; 2011-08-31 ; 01:13 Any ideas how to solve it? :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Wednesday, August 31, 2011 (00:48 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: 5.0.22.24 Filters Remain Broken
Hi Richard, If others aren't having the same problems then I suppose that the problems are machine specific and I should totally remove TB, all traces thereof, and install the last full release. If others are having the same problems, then I can put up with the consistent and inconsistent filter problems for a longer period of time. Thanks, in advance, for clarifying this. Tried that release for about a day on my second machine and didn't see malfunctions within my filters. One of my filters do copy all incoming messages to General folder and after they are read they are further filtered out to subfolders. Before I was testing v5 on imported v4 database and when back to v4 I imported v5 TBK but for some reasons duplicated folders appeared in the structure and the only way to get rid of them was to create new folder, copy messages, delete duplicated folder, copy back messages and repoint filters of that folder (ex: re-sellect Move folder) - it's a way too much time that I don't have to take a risk. For safety back on v4.2 on my main machine and a bit passively testing new releases on the notebook only. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Wednesday, August 31, 2011 (10:12 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: 5.0.22.7 (Virtual folders)
Hi Alto, TF They are (were?) very useful in v4, as they updated automagically. Not here, I'm afraid: In v4 a VF worked correctly exactly once, right after it had been created. If TB was shut down and started again, the VF became empty (0 messages.) It stayed empty, too, regardless of what was selected or refiltered. Using v4 for last 2-3 month and never lost a count there. In v5, a VF is not automatically updated, but as soon as I select the parent folder, it is, and the messages that are filtered into it once stay there for the future. The problem on my desktop and notebook is that sooner or later I always loose count. With last few 5 versions it's very fast (3-15min after TB! is started). After restart there is a proper count but equals to zero after a couple of minutes. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Thursday, August 11, 2011 (02:55 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.7 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Checked on Polish OS with English settings of TB! and Polish OS setting. One thing that you may consider to update. At the moment positioning of the day (ddd) is forced before time, ex: 10-08-2011 (Mon) 12:32 or (Mon) 12:32 (for a date today). Would be nice to be able to move day indicator to the back of the date/time info as well. It was my default format before and I think it's the most clear way to show it (ex: 10-08-2011, 12:32 (Mon) OR 12:32 (Mon) instead of forced (Mon) 12:32). Re: Data removal while uninstalling (Pyrric Victory)
Hi RS, Hi Maxim, I don't know the full reply to your question, but the common folders in the default location should be removed, it's a bug that they are not removed. Do you know if it's a Folder (not Common Folder) should it to be removed as well? You distinguish Folder and Common Folder in TB!. I assume that both types should be removed and it shouldn't matter which type it is, right? Rechecked with uninstalling of 5.0.20.1. Database was created with 4.2.22 and imported to 5.0.20.1 - might be irrelevant but I don't know. Mentioned below CF and F were created in 5.0.20.1 and some e-mails were copied into them. Testing for default location: a) Stand Alone CF1, b) CF2 with F1 created inside, c) F2 moved out of CF1 d) CF3 with moved in CF4 and F3 //* (CF - Common Folder (ALT+INS), F - Folder (INS)) Directories 'a' and 'c' were removed while uninstalling. So, CF stand Alone and F moved out to a main tree were removed. Directories 'b' and 'd' were not removed. From above it's visible that CF were left intact if there was F inside. It's likely that TB! checks first if within subfolders structure is even one F ; and if there is any it's not removing data. It means that any CF folder set up by a customer will never be deleted. Looks like if there is a CF and F mix they are not removed at all. If somebody is really sorting e-mails info folders that part will always be left behind. If it's based on VF only, VF info is removed. However my IMAP account is a mystery for me (below). -- Apart of above, following items from my TBK file were left intact after uninstall (Keep Data box unchecked). - Full Common Folders Structure, //* Started with CF and F created inside, - IMAP account data (assume it's a full on - 42MB file) - imgfiles directory, two zero size files (FilesDB.info and *.info_) - Folder of my POP3 account: Protocol.ini ; Account.M_D ; Account.M_R ; Account.RND - files: smimernd.bin ; AddrHistory.CDB ; GROUPS.cfg ; downloadrules.dat ; POP_AP_PL.log ; thebatexceptions.log ; ex_log.txt -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Monday, August 1, 2011 (13:50 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: 5.x
Hi Tony, Anyone else experiencing this? I have seen the random slowdowns. They seem to have reappeared in 5.0.22.1. Big pauses, ticker stops for a few seconds at a time. Same here. Especially visible on my laptop /MX11 R2, i7, U640 1.2Gh (2GHz on Turbo Boost), 4GB RAM/ ; little visible on X6 1090T but happened a few times as well - froze for 2-4 seconds. On laptop it freezes sometimes for 3-10 seconds. Noticed it last night ; mostly using a client on my desktop computer. Happened every time when I restored DB from TBK ; after restored frozen for about 20-25s (after that just random slow downs from time to time (3-10s)). Happens on v5 and v4 as well. Thought that's because of my database size (about 10GB). -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Sunday, July 31, 2011 (18:38 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Data removal while uninstalling (Pyrric Victory)
Hi Maxim, Data Folder: D:\TB4\DB\ Program was removed. Most of data was left in data folder. This is intentional, we are reluctant do delete data from non-standard locations since this data may be shared with other programs. We had bad experienced before when The Bat! have deleted more data then needed. So if in question, we would better delete less data than more. OK, in some cases might be logical to not remove more than minimum :) If the user have configured The Bat! to use a custom folder, then the user knows the exact location of this folder and can delete it entirely. Yep, you right - I knew where it was so I was able to check if it's still there :) To be honest, after reading Rit's description in uninstaller (the one how to remove data as well) ; and the one shown while uninstalling I expected it to be removed :) However, it's not clear (at least wasn't for me) so IMO user should be warned (ex: while setting customized location or while removing - the best would be both) that data won't be removed if he changes the location from a standard one to it's own location :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Sunday, July 31, 2011 (02:16 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Data removal while uninstalling (Pyrric Victory)
Hi Maxim, RS Anyway, IMO user should be given info while changing default RS folder (and preferably while uninstalling and un-checking RS 'Keep data..' that folder is not to be removed. Maxim We are not sure that the information will not be removed. We Maxim would like to remove it, but it's hard to know whether Maxim somebody else use it or not. Also, sometimes there may be Maxim cases when there is not possible to remove data because The Maxim Bat! doesn't know what to remove, i.e. a user may create a Maxim folder or an account in non-default location and select from Maxim the menu Delete with an option to keep account file in Maxim place. But if a user have not yet deleted such non-standard Maxim account of folder, The Bat! may remove it. Let me ask a different question :) Should Common Folders set up in TB! for e-mails sorting be removed while Keep Data is unchecked for following cases: - TB! is installed at default location, - TB! has appointed a different location for Database. If common folders for default installation are to be removed they should be removed as well in case of appointing a different location. Or, am I mistaken in my logic :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Monday, August 1, 2011 (10:36 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi All, It doesn't matter what language OS is. It's only regional settings. TB! as every other good written program just follows them. Hi Maxim, I don't know the full reply to your question, but the common folders in the default location should be removed, it's a bug that they are not removed. Do you know if it's a Folder (not Common Folder) should it to be removed as well? You distinguish Folder and Common Folder in TB!. Hi Raymund, I have a feeling here that it's connected with OS national settings :( Got the same feeling here now as well. It still takes the names for month etc. from the OS but should take them from the translation files. And it makes date format with written names instead of numbers unusable while copying date and time and replying to other language than Polish :( When I reply in English to somebody's message and I want to copy other e-mail date and time of other e-mail (a date copied from a message view window (header part)) I need to correct manually date in Polish to English. Re: 5.0.10 MSI - thebat_error_20110430.gif (1/1)
Hi Tony, We have both made our points, the decision is now with Ritlabs. And then ultimately, with their paying customers and *their* priorities with reading emails and viewing attachments. Funny how one's priorities change. I am getting a contact form by email from a website coded in India. I have just complained that the form comes across in a UUE block and they say it works fine in Outlook and why do I use an email client that doesn't display correctly? It's a bit embarrassing, really. I got that question many times. When I talked with a Chinese about the program (he liked it) and we got to non OS characters filtering problem (not going to tell the guy it's cool and have him call me in a week asking 'How the hell can I filter or search over Chinese?') he decided not even give TB! a try. He was using notebook from US with English OS, so filtering on Chinese language is not working at all (other languages are affected as well). I use TB! and like it but I can't take a risk of recommending it. After a problem with TBK import to v4 (TBK made with v4) I run into I need to dig deeper on that before I recommend v4 as well. Maybe after we get to 5.9 it's gonna be perfect :) Will see :) -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Friday, July 29, 2011 (17:57 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: 5.0.20.1 - E-mail date is wrong on E-mails list?
Hi Maxim, There were changes in the format how the date is stored in the message base. Version 4 did store dates in local time, version 5 stores dates in UTC, and also put a new flat that the date of the message is in UTC. Version 4 does not understand this flag. It's rather not that issue. So if you have received messages in version 5 and then revert to version 4, these new messages will be displayed with wrong time, depending on the time zone. Messages were shown with wrong time in v5 not v4. It was not an import from v5 to v4 (if I do that I could only blame myself) but v4 to v5. I did a TBK file in v4 ; removed TB! from system through uninstall and remove data option ; installed v.5 and imported TBK into it. During a check on new v5 release I received some e-mails (same as messages I received before - I haven't notice that when I was typing last e-mail) and they had wrong timing. It was still in v5 not v4. After that I removed v5 through uninstall and remove data option and I installed clean v4 and tried to import TBK (made an hour before in v4) but it was unsuccessful - in the middle of importing v4 gave me a message that file can't be read (very same file is imported to v5 without any error message). RAW copy of files I used to get v4 working again after failure of TBK import was a copy stored prior to any play around's with v5 - so, it was not influenced by v5 in any way. E-mails visible on v4 picture were downloaded from the server by v4 after v5 uninstall (I store messages on the server for 14 days). -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Friday, July 29, 2011 (10:35 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.22.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

5.0.20.1 - Matters after clean reinstall and DB import
Hi, Matters as follows: 1. FOLDER VIEW MODE ON FIRST START After first start Folder View Mode had only standard views under right button of mouse (no customized one ; but they were visible in Manage View Modes). After TB! restart they appeared. 2. TB! HANG UP WHILE FOLDERS SELECTION WAS USED IN RESTORE PROCESS After I selected import of backup file and picked up Import Selected Folders and 3 of the accounts program stopped responding. Waited 5 minutes but nothing happened - Program Not Responding. 3. MISSING REPLY SETTINGS FOR ONE ACCOUNT For unknown reasons settings for reply were lost for one POP3 account. The setting saved there in (v.4.22) were: %DATEEN (%TIME ; GMT+8) ; The Bat! %SOFTWAREVERSION ; %SetEditor=3 ; %READCONFIRM ; %ACCOUNT=RS (AP.pl) ; %CHARSET=UTF-8 4. MISSING AFTER IMPORT I do not know if it's expected behavior - in my opinion not - but following elements were lost after import from a backup file: - Customized Header list from Message window, - Customized Attachment Placement and Size from a Message Window, - Color Group - one element is almost not visible almost at all. Element should be Red Background and White letters but Background is not shown so only White letters are displayed. You should pass to Color Group window both parameters (Background and Letter color). - Image Download Manager rules.. Why not to store images that were downloaded with a backup file or at least give such an option to a user? Why do I have to authorize same links again? 5. OTHER MATTERS - ReFilter Window (Ctrl+F) could be sizable - would be easier to read feedback what was filtered out, - Messages List font changed ; Folder's List have same font as before That change is not something I do personally like. IMO smaller was better. How can I change it back to smaller one? - usage of more cores while creating backup - it takes me about 50 minutes to make a DB backup and restore it to a new version on a 6 core machine (AMD X6 1090T OC). Topic concerns as well about implementation of more powerful archiving engine to make archive smaller. Hope more people will opt at least for usage of more cores while compressing image. Getting back to 4.2.22 (Backup file can't be read)
Hi, I made a backup file in 4.2.22 today. Prior to that I did in Maintenance Center a checkup of Integrity, Compact and Duplicates removal. Imported backup file to a clean 5.0.20.1 - no issues while importing. After problems I reported (dates matter was a main reason I got back to 4.2.22) I wanted to import same backup file to newly installed 4.2.22 but in the middle of the import there was a message that backup file can't be read. Strange that it was fine for about 50%. Did an import on other computer to 5.0.20.1 and was OK. Again try to import to 4.2.22 - same problem. Backup file from about month ago worked. Is there any way to verify if backup is corrupted and what is corrupted? WORK AROUND TO MAKE IT WORK Fortunately I have left as well a full copy of TB! database folder. Way to work around the problem was to install TB! on C partition and appoint database to be on other partition where I installed it from old backup. Close TB! and place copied data in exactly same folder but on different partition. Swap partition letter with RAW copied TB! in the system options to the one where you just installed TB!. Just replacing the data in the folder didn't work for me. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Wednesday, July 27, 2011 (18:02 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.18.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: 5.0.20.1 - E-mail date is wrong on E-mails list?
Hi Simon, RS For all e-mails I received after change to 5.0.20.1 the date RS of the e-mail shown in the e-mail list is wrong (all e-mails RS received after a change). On the image there are visible messages RS in one of the folders after they were filtered out. RS NOW it's: 27-07-2011 ; 16:25 RS Column shows: RS - Created: 28-07-2011 2:39 (was sent to me about 7 hours ago) RS - Received: 28-07-2011 2:43 RS Dates of mentioned e-mails are shown properly in TB!4. Simon I cannot reproduce this here on Win7 64. Your mails that just Simon came in seem to have the correct time/date. It might be that I Simon am in GMT timezone. Mails I've sent were had a proper time and date. Only e-mails that I received had wrong timing. You can see that header shows a different timing than on the picture in previous e-mail. Added one more screen - same e-mails visible in TB!4. What's interesting here and I didn't see it before is that there is a difference in size reported by v5 and by v4 (for 5 of 6 messages). -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Wednesday, July 27, 2011 (18:17 ; GMT+8) attachment: TB! - Date TB5 (Wrong).pngattachment: TB! - Date TB4 (Correct).png Current beta is 5.0.18.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Date in English (on non-English OS)
Hi, I have TB! installed on Polish OS. TB! Language is set to English but e-mails date is presented in Polish in the messages list window. No matter to what language I switch Month name is always in Polish. '26 lip 2011' instead of '26 Jul 2011' I had the same result today when I installed 5.0.20.1 over 4.2.22. Any idea how to get in English? Disapearing Folders
Hi, Anyone has an idea why folders in TB! disappears? Shift+Ctrl+Alt+L is a way around the problem but it's a bit annoying. I'm checking daily if I have any folders gone missing... For about 2-3 weeks I had once one folder missing result only. But today, after I pressed that Magic Combo I got 63 folders found... That would be a good thing apart of the fact that 63 folders that were found were duplicated - I mean that I have now 63 times two folders with exactly same content. Not Supported Characters in a File Name (EML import)
Hi, If there is a non native character in a file name TB! skips import without any notice, ex: Chinese characters (didn't have time to check if it happens on ENG OS with Polish characters ; will do it later). Method to work it around is to rename all files with standard OS characters and import then. One more thing (both v4 and v5) - if a folder with large EML messages is opened to be imported and there are files with Chinese characters TB! seems to hang for a few seconds (need to wait ; can't select messages at that time), after that pressing CTRL+A selects all messages and import starts. Mentioned delay didn't happen while importing 4000 EML messages with a file name .EML to 4000.EML. Probably connected with file name parsing by TB! and hesitance what to do while getting on Chinese character ;P -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Tuesday, June 7, 2011 (16:12 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.12.13 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

As for v5 (5.0.12.12) - file names with such characters (RUS, PL, CHN) were imported correctly on ENG OS (W7 x64). On both version there is a delay while importing if names are different than short .EML to 4000.EML. Might be a that the name has other than OS system characters or it's just parsing a whole name and it takes longer. v4 and v5 - EML messages missing after TB! restart
Hi, Looks like I'm in a good place :) One day and malfunctioned v4 as well. No Access Violation pop up window was shown when it happened but it's visible in the log file. Same as for v5 before, probably connected with my reports from the beginning of May while I was trying to import my DB into v5: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8687 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8685 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8694 Subfolders of one of two Root Folders went missing after closing TB!. In first folder (and subfolders) about 16k messages were imported. TB! restarted, backup made and all was fine. After that I have imported the second part (7.7k messages) and after it was done restarted TB!. Root folder was visible but according to TB! it was empty. When I tried to create the folder with the same name as before (names are visible on HDD), TB! warned me that such folder already exists and if I'm sure that I want to create it. After confirmed it created folder with my messages inside. While creating subfolders I was selecting for each of them a customized Folder View Mode. Tried to get it gone again but it didn't work out. So far, messages are still there - open/close TB! multiple times and tried to add/delete folders with subfolders (but not so many ; about 300 messages) and all looked to work fine. In a log file there is an exception visible (as mentioned before there was no pop up window. Hi, No Access Violation pop up window was shown when it happened but it's visible in the log file. Just realized I forgot to add that the difference in behavior between v4 and v5 is that in v5 was not allowing me to create new folders deeper than level 0 (they were not visible after TB! restart). So far under v4 I created folders and it works. Looks like it happens if a folder is created as a normal folder and moved to Root folder and subfolders are created within it. Tried a few times and subfolders of such a folder that was moved out of the structure to a ROOT directory were always missing after TB! restart. If a Common Folder was created subfolders within it were not going missing. Moving a folder to Root should not cause such behaviour, or maybe I'm mistaken. Other matter is that window showing Exceptions didn't pop up. Have two new exceptions in the log but time and date is somehow not correct: Date: 06 Jun 2011 14:03:36 OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 build 7601 PhysMemFreeTotal: 1486/4094 MB VirtMemFreeTotal: 1823/2047 MB Address: 00A8FCEB ClassName: EListError Message: List index out of bounds (-1) IsOSException: 0 Modules: 0040 20110328214630 G:\! Re: Version 4
Hi All, Is it possible to export v5 (current one I spent lots of time on setting filters and sorting e-mails) to TB! v4.22? If anyone is thinking about moving back to 4.22 database (TBK) import can be done directly from backup file. Just export all of the stuff to TBK, uninstall v5, install v4 and import TBK file. The only strange think was that all VF were empty up to the moment when each of them was selected and ESC was pressed. After that messages appeared. So far all is good, no exceptions, access violations, count and filtering is proper. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Monday, June 6, 2011 (16:18 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.12.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Because I spent my money to get a reliable tool and even official release (5.0.12) is having exceptions and lots of bugs? Up to now I have tried to update and use TB! v5 with all my mail's and the result was that finally it died and imported messages (over 20k ; about 6-7GB) are not visible... If I just want to join TBBETA I wouldn't spend money on licence but download a client and test it constantly. As 5.0.12 is official release that is provided to clients it should work not give me on daily basis exceptions and access violations ; not mentioning that autobackup stopped working ; VF were not showing proper count ; messages from other ppl were presented in VF filtered on e-mail address and so on... Will keep v5 on my laptop for tests but not for working. -- Best Regards, RS (FEDARA) The Bat! 4.2.44.2 Windows 7 x64 Professional (7601 Service Pack 1) Tuesday, June 7, 2011 (01:34 ; GMT+8) Current beta is 5.0.12.13 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi Thomas, As with all version changes (especially on a beta list) make full back-ups.
