I was just experimenting a bit, and I am not certain I follow how to interpret the Alternatives tab in the Sorting Office. If I set a filter string which must be found in matching messages, and several other strings either one of which also should be in matched messages, how is it that you may set that up? AM Click the Add button and define one of the other strings that should AM also match. This works very well. But, say I don't click the Add button here to add the second string. How does it think about the filter? It seems to let most everything through. The first required string is there in most cases. Like, if I call the first string _required_ to put on the Rule tab and I number the alternate possible strings, string1, and string2, say, then how does it make a conclusion in any case, or when neither string1 nor string2 is present? You already answered this. But if you say OR between the two Tabs on the window, its feels odd. It is another logic than just: string1 OR string2. And I did get that when I added two strings in just the main Rule tab. (If you click a particular temp folder on the right pane, in the files list, and then click Empty Selected Folder, it won't just delete that one, it will delete all the folder contents that are selected on the left pane.) There is also an icon to let you go to the selected folder in Windows Explorer. (I could be wrong) What you are asking about is how to access a single mail base from more than one machine. The only protocol that provides that is IMAP. Anything else would have some issues. If you still use POP, then you'd have to access the same files to have the same effect. If you were away for a week, I guess you'd need to copy all the mail base files and take them with you first. And when you returned, you would copy all the mail base files back. I don't think too many people do that. But you'd then have everything the very same in both places. I guess you want to try out all the options. And see what suits you best. And if there seem some shortfalls in how it works out still, you can pose them. With the speed of wired and wireless networks these days, things are probably not too constricting. Just try everything. You were saying, how you had it, that outgoing mails were filtered to the Sent folder. When I click to add an address to the address book, and add this address, I find later I can't find the address. It seems that if I do it again, add to address book, I notice something under the Groups field in the Address book entry window. It seems to always pick something. I am not sure how. Odd effect change account name
I have a feeling this might sound too technical. But, I was just now renaming an account. Just click on Properties, type a new name, and shortly, a window comes on screen. It seems to be alerting to some trouble. The window offers two pathnames, and declares that: The system could not find the path specified It gives the path to some specific folder on the account, first listed under the old account name, and a second line, same path, but with the new account name. So, I could only acknowledge the window. And then came two more, just like it, for two other mailboxes. One of them was the outbox. Is there any website that details anti-spam basics with tb? There seem to be so many tools, that I am not sure where is the route to think about. Are tools there to complement each other, or just for a variety of options? You feel like testing new methods with like a test account or something. But you don't really expect to get any spam with a new account. I am not using a recent TB version too much. But, it isn't clear, does it have a complete solution against spam on board? It seems like you have a couple menu entries. But you wonder, where is the intelligence? It's not fighting spam already. If you get a message like: Cable_TV Filter Lets You Get It ALL_FOR_NOTHING, IF: b1hgq16776 Then I guess you can suggest that this is a spam message. And later, how is one to know if you get a message from a cable company, that it isn't a newsletter about cable TV? Do anti-spam tools used in the Bat work with, or do they obsolesce other anti-spam applications? Sorry for the basic questions. The top button seems to be asking me what language I would like to use. Now, I guess that is very friendly. Although, spam seems to be multi-national, doesn't it? And it doesn't matter whose inbox it flies into, or what country they may live. It is the same class of a thing in any case. Now, If I try this button here, I get a screen and it says I can pick a language from a list. But there does not seem to be a list from which a selection can be made. Is this the same for you? PS Not necessarily. You can use systems like POPFile with The Bat!, but PS personally I don't see much value in doing so. Import same account
I'd like to try and import the same account I am using into TB from another. I am uncertain how TB would react. Will it let me have two of the same accounts, different contents? If batch files were going to go on to the next command, before they finished the last one, then you'd get a notice about Copying Files Completed, when it only just started. And you could be deleting all your files, before they get copied. I guess the headers would be in the sense of the complete e-mail source. I know some programs definitely seem to vary from an ordinary message source display in a Sent folder. Have you used Pegasus Mail? I think there are a few headers it doesn't bother to represent. But in general, you have internal data, and external representation. Items in the Sent folder can be flagged, read, unread, coloured black and blue. Would it be a bug or not a bug if a sent message could not be coloured? Or they could be Read, but not Unread again? The subject of this thread isn't much of an example for where you define what is a bug. I mean, mainly where you talk about something malfunctioning, is where you may have a lot of chaos. A lot of users complain. Effective work cannot be done. Or something thereabouts. Not so much at some periphery of operation where data conveys some impression most of the time which is very effective, and few surprises. I can't really rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. But if you can't trust a sort on a main aspect of content that may occur to you, it seems annoying. TB shines at the sort. Restore
Under menu Tools, we use Backup to backup accounts. There is a setting here for Global Options. Anyone here have a better idea than me what this refers to? And, on then to restore, if I try to Restore an account, will it use a similar named account in the account tree now to deposit it? Folders and rearranging
Have you ever noticed that if you try to add a new folder to an account, the new folder is always added at the very bottom of the account tree? So, let's say you are trying to add some categories in which to stick the boxes. And you have maybe a hundred folders or more. So you are there hanging around at the top of the tree, so you'd like to place things in some better order. Or maybe later archiving, or whatever. So I should take this bunch of folders, and package them up in some new folder, shall we say, boxed tight. So that random parts don't just hang around aimlessly. Since you started at the top of the tree, now you need to get the parts at the top, and move everything half a dozen screens to the very bottom. I can say that I scratch my head at this point, see? Are there other options, or anything I have missed? This could really take a while, as is. Another thing is, say on the other hand you take a fresh new Account. It has automatically like 5 folders or something to start off with. Try create a new folder. Now, if you try to move the original bunch, Inbox, and so on, it seems to fail. Filter question
In TB 2.0, in Sorting Office, on the options tab, there is an option This rule is executed only by pressing the hotkey. The option is not listed in TB 1.6. I am wondering, how does TB 1.6 behave? How would you specify that the filter does not execute just anytime, along with all the other filters? When I type some sentences near to a section below, perhaps near quoted text, sometimes it is very near. And the text retreats upward, and crunches up all on one line instead of a few lines consecutively. I have a feeling that didn't use to happen, and I can't remember if an option was changed. Filtering with IMAP
Is there any specific plan for re-implementing filtering in TB 2.0? As I understand, it does not work at all right now. No automatic filtering, no manual filtering. Correct? That is, assuming you selected an IMAP account. So my question is with these duplicates. The method I described I was saying it could work effectively if TB was convinced to kill the Unread messages. If it kills Read messages, then I will be left with two batches of the same Unread messages. If it does cut out the extraneous chaff, and delete not just *comparable* but *identical* messages, then it will leave a complete archive. (Unless I'm mistaken.) How does Kill Dupes work? Am I right in what I said? Can it be convinced to do this? System for archiving
One way to archive messages is if you have a filter to copy all incoming messages destined for that folder, copy to another folder. If you do this though, the archive will not indicate which messages were read, and which not. No statuses. So, do you think that can be achieved? I was thinking, well a Read filter could copy messages to that same destination folder. So then, you'd have all the messages. Plus a bunch of duplicates. So maybe you could try going to that folder. And clicking Kill Dupes. I wonder if you have tried such a solution. Hi I have an account that I use for mailing lists, which has a large (100+) number of (generally exclusive) filters active, and which receives anything up to 200 mails a day. Would it serve any beneficial purpose to sort the filters according to their relative usage to 'streamline' the inbox processing? I know that the Account Log records the firing of any filter, but are there any other locations that TB keeps statistics on the firing of filters, which I could use to determine the relative ordering? There is Peter Palmreuther's 'TB Log Analyzer'. As for sorting the filters, it does seem possible to drag one filter in the list elsewhere. Can't get mail
I'm having a problem getting mail today. It's weird. When I click Dispatch mail, the window appears, but just stays there. When I click Get Mail, the connection centre appears, it says: Status: Checking INBOX And just stays like that indefinitely. Order of arrival
I've got a large section of fairly random messages gotten filtered off some places, mistakenly. I wonder if there was some way if I knew a lot of mail was filtered to some folder, if I could take it out. Undo that. To get the list of messages in exactly the order they were added to the mailbox. No connection with internet activity. Using two independent Bats, I noticed they are forced to use the same folder set. This is the IMAP mailbox interface. I really don't want that. I want to DL independent folders on the 2nd TB. On the Bat download page, the file 'the_bat.exe' downloads and turns out to be 96 KB. It manages to come up to the Setup to Install screen. Naturally, it does not go ahead normally. TF I don't know what is Sleipnir, Sleipnir is a Chinese Web browser. Very cool looking. Colourful, though busy interface. TF but it does seem like there was a TF problem with IE, don't you think? Yeah. I just supposed there's probably technical knowledge around here to suggest what type of thing might happen. I certainly downloaded TB successfully with IE before. What type of event can a download manager keep track of that IE can't? Does IE simply take what it receives from the web server? Or is it doing some poor management or error correction, and failing to report that? Email restrict
Suppose you are mistakenly emailing someone when he/or she is not actually at home, or work. You were using the wrong address. Is it possible to restrict access to sending email to a particular address based on the time of day? At night, don't send to address B. That is the general purpose of a Sorting Office, of course. c But since the messages c(yes, this and some other lists) are on a folder on the IMAP cserver, so when I download them in to TB, will I now need to change ctheir destination to Inbox first, instead of this list folder cbefore applying the filter rule?
