  Hi

  I tried these syntax :
  'macadress':'profile'
  macadress:profile
  macadress:profile

The custom property you enter in the UI should look like this:

 {'00:1a:4a:1f:96:01':'p1p'}

for additional mappings, what you write in the UI is as follows:

 {'$MAC':'$PROFILE','$MAC1':'PROFILE1','MAC2':'PROFILE2'}

This strictly follows the python dictionary syntax, and it fails,
because the syntax requires curly braces

With macadress the mac adresse generic format : aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
And the profile the name I set un UCs : p1p

Ifconfig shows no FEX adapters, this is the reason the direct-pool network has
no interfaces.

You need to configure your UCS chassis to assign dynamic NICs to the hosts. An
unassigned dynamic NIC can be easily detected as a device that has a mac that
looks like 00:00:00:00:00:00 (which is what the vmfex hook looks for)

I don't think we have a tools cd for ovirt yet.
matt - what exactly is needed from it though? will the fedora cd be good
enough?

The Tools CD is no longer a hard requirement because we copy essential
drivers to the guest image during the conversion process so they'll be
picked up on first boot anyway. It remains a recommendation though, as
it's the preferred delivery method for driver updates.

Re: [Users] oVirt Templates // remove after a couple VMs got created is not possible ?

2013-01-03 Thread Alex Leonhardt
Ok thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Removing that VM is not possible though
as it's already very actively used. Well, i'll keep this in mind when
creating more VMs as do not want to have to keep old templates around ..

Thanks
Alex

2013/1/2 Maor Lipchuk mlipc...@redhat.com

Hi Alex, if the VMs that you created used thin provisioning for the
template, then the disks of the created VM are based on the volumes of
the template images using qcow, and there for, they will be related to
 this template.

If you don't want the VM to be based on the template images you can use
the resource allocation tab to configure the template provisioning. If
you will choose clone, then the VM images will create a new image which
will not be based on the template images.

I think that once the VM is based on the template, there is not much to
do, but shut down the VMs.
If you don't want to remove the VM's maybe yo can try to create a
snapshot of the VM and after that clone a VM from that snapshot, and
 remove the original VM.

 Maor

Re: [Users] Change locale for VNC console

2013-01-03 Thread Alexandre Santos
As Itamar once explained to me (I had the same problem):

you can change the vnc keyboard layout via the config tool
(VncKeyboardLayout option) globally.
still missing as a per vm option (though you can easily do this via a
hook if you need it per vm)

Alex

2013/1/3 Frank Wall fw...@inotronic.de:
 Hi,

when using oVirt 3.1 the locale for all VNC consoles defaults to en_US.
This is OK if the user is using the same locale. But with any other
locale on the client side (fr_FR, de_DE), the keyboard is really
scrambled. As a result the VNC console is somewhat useless for an
 affected user.

 So my questions are...

 1. How do I change the locale for VNC, either globally or for each VM?
 2. Will there be an REST API call to configure the locale of the console?

Wow, that was quick, thanks for the hint! Changing the value was easy:

# engine-config -g VncKeyboardLayout
VncKeyboardLayout: en-us version: general
# engine-config -s VncKeyboardLayout=de --cver=general
# engine-config -g VncKeyboardLayout
VncKeyboardLayout: de version: general

I did a quick test: shutdown a VM and power-on again.
But unfortunately the VNC console keyboard is still odd.

[Users] REST API: Change boot device / attach CD-ROM

2013-01-03 Thread Frank Wall
Hi,

I'm using the REST API to change the boot device and attach CD-ROM images.
At least I try to... Currently I'm using the following calls to achieve this:

Task: attach cdrom
Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%/cdroms
Method: POST
Data: cdromfile id='%%%FILE-ID%%%'//cdrom

Task: change boot order
Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%
Method: PUT
Data: vmosboot dev='%%%BOOT-DEVICE%%%'//os/vm

And it seems to work, because I can see the changes to the cdrom...

cdroms
cdrom href=/api/vms/VM-ID/cdroms/----
id=----
vm href=/api/vms/VM-ID id=VM-ID/
file id=FreeBSD-8.3-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso/
/cdrom
/cdroms

...and the boot device is also changed...

[...]
os type=unassigned
boot dev=cdrom/
/os
[...]

...but the VM won't boot off the CD-ROM device, instead it just
boots from the first harddisk. So what am I doing wrong?

Besides that I can see these settings on the oVirt Admin Portal, too.
The first boot device is CD-ROM, the CD is attached and the Image is
FreeBSD-8.3-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso. Looks good to me. But it still
won't boot from CD-ROM.

The only way I am able to boot from CD-ROM is when using the
Run once function on the Admin Portal and configure the CD-ROM
device/image there (temporarely overwriting my config).

It will NOT work if I configure the CD-ROM device through the REST
API or the Admin Portal. Just Run Once will do the right thing.

Sounds strange, don't you think? So the question is: Is it a known
bug or did I broke something with the above API calls?

 Hi all,

When i want to connect on console when spice is active in VM, i have
this error : VM is down. Exit message: internal error Process exited
while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/0
do_spice_init: starting 0.10.1 reds_init_ssl: Could not use ca file.

That looks like a certificate installation error. There was some thread
recently where exactly such issue was resolved.

David

So i cannot connect to VM console with spice but it is ok with VNC.

Also, i have error when i want to migrate VM.

 I use ovirt 3.1 : Fedora 17 x86_64 for Virtualization Manager and 2
 hosts ovirt 2.5.5.

 Please, help!

Re: [Users] REST API: Change boot device / attach CD-ROM

2013-01-03 Thread Michal Skrivanek

On Jan 3, 2013, at 13:05 , Frank Wall fw...@inotronic.de wrote:

 Hi,

I'm using the REST API to change the boot device and attach CD-ROM images.
At least I try to... Currently I'm using the following calls to achieve this:

 Task: attach cdrom
 Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%/cdroms
 Method: POST
 Data: cdromfile id='%%%FILE-ID%%%'//cdrom

 Task: change boot order
 Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%
 Method: PUT
 Data: vmosboot dev='%%%BOOT-DEVICE%%%'//os/vm

And it seems to work, because I can see the changes to the cdrom...

 cdroms
cdrom href=/api/vms/VM-ID/cdroms/----
 id=----
vm href=/api/vms/VM-ID id=VM-ID/
file id=FreeBSD-8.3-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso/
/cdrom
 /cdroms

...and the boot device is also changed...

[...]
os type=unassigned
boot dev=cdrom/
/os
[...]

...but the VM won't boot off the CD-ROM device, instead it just
boots from the first harddisk.

Hi,
regarding the Admin portal way - did you configure the order there or just look
at it but it was originally configured via REST?

Thanks,
michal

Sounds strange, don't you think? So the question is: Is it a known
bug or did I broke something with the above API calls?

[Users] Wiki: Copyright - Licensing redirect

2013-01-03 Thread Adrian Gibanel
Hi,

I've been given write permissions in the wiki recently and I've noticed that
when I edited some texts the Legal Notice was pointing to:

oVirt_Wiki:Copyrights page which was empty. So I've edited it so that it
redirects to Licensing page which I assume is the right one.

Feel free to fix it in the right way which I assume is one of two:

* Rename Licensing into oVirt_Wiki:Copyrights .
* Change oVirt_Wiki:Copyrights into a read-only page for normal wiki editors.

Thank you.

[Users] ovirt and EqualLogic iSCSI SAN

2013-01-03 Thread Jonathan Horne
i have had to abandon (hopefully just for now) getting my ovirt nodes properly
setup with my equal logic iscsi SAN. EQ has a special iscsi driver, and it
appears that ovirt uses the regular iscsi commands to connect to the storage,
circumventing the features of the EQ driver.

unless I'm wrong, which i totally could be.

in case I'm not, will there ever be a chance of supporting the EQ iscsi
features, and if there is a chance, how can i help?

ps-- in case someone asks, here is the basic difference between a normal linux
iscsi command set, and the equallogic iscsi command set:

normal linux:
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
iscsiadm -m node -T FULLIQN -p IPADDRESS -l
fdisk /dev/yaymydevice

equallogic:
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
ehcmcli login --target FULLIQN --portal IPADDRESS
which will then present you your device, such as /dev/eql/yaymydevice…

thanks,
Jonathan

EQL storage works just fine as a normal iscsi SAN, using the normal iscsiadm
commands. The hitkit is doing things differently, and that's not necessarily
the right thing to do. oVirt is trying to keep things generic, using standard
commands, standard daemons and access paths

[Users] Destktop VM to Server VM ?

2013-01-03 Thread Hideo Goto
First of all, a Happy new year to every subscriber of the list.

My first concern of the year about ovirt:

Is it possible to change the type of an existing VM from desktop to
server by any possible means?
In my case, the VM was imported from KVM to Ovirt 3.0 environment
using virt-v2v. I have just found out that the VM was recognized as
desktop while expected as server .

Thanks in advance for any advise.

It was originally configured via REST. I used the Admin Portal

configure it through the Admin Portal, but it didn't work either.
So I ended up using the run once method, as described in my
previous e-mail.

just the front-end IP, and if you login to all of those, you will get your
multipathed setup right away

i have had to abandon (hopefully just for now) getting my ovirt
  nodes
properly setup with my equal logic iscsi SAN. EQ has a special
  iscsi
driver, and it appears that ovirt uses the regular iscsi commands
  to
connect to the storage, circumventing the features of the EQ
  driver.

unless I'm wrong, which i totally could be.

in case I'm not, will there ever be a chance of supporting the EQ
iscsi features, and if there is a chance, how can i help?

ps-- in case someone asks, here is the basic difference between a
normal linux iscsi command set, and the equallogic iscsi command
  set:

  normal linux:
  iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
  iscsiadm -m node -T FULLIQN -p IPADDRESS -l
  fdisk /dev/yaymydevice

  equallogic:
  iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
ehcmcli login --target FULLIQN --portal IPADDRESS
which will then present you your device, such as
  /dev/eql/yaymydeviceŠ

But I'm really looking forward to oVirt 3.2 (reading all those commit

A nice feature would be to be able to migrate guests between AMD and
Intel host machines.
KVM should be able to support it [1]. I don't know if other hypervisors
are able/can to support this. Because oVirt aims to support different
hypervisors it might be problematic. But I think offline migration
should be possible.

Re: [Users] What do you want to see in oVirt next?

2013-01-03 Thread Adrian Gibanel
This is what I'm missing right now in oVirt 3.1:

Better GlusterFS support.
===
1. Add a checkbox when creating a volume: Set oVirt permissions so that the
vdsm : kvm permissions are set. I don't want it to be per-default because I'd
like to use Volumes tabs as a Volumes manager for Glusterfs volumes and not
only Glusterfs volumes aimed at virtual machines.

From: http://blog.jebpages.com/archives/ovirt-3-1-glusterized/ :
( For now, the Gluster volume manager neglects to set brick directory
permissions correctly, so after adding bricks on a machine, you have to return
to the terminal and run chown -R 36.36 /data (assuming /data is where you are
storing your volume bricks) to enable oVirt to write to the volumes. )

2. Add a quota tab in Volumes. So that you can enable/disable/edit its quota:
http://www.gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Gluster_3.2:_Enabling_Quota

http://gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Gluster_3.2:_Managing_Directory_Quota

All In One (AIO) bigger timeout
===
From:
http://blog.jebpages.com/archives/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-1-edition/

( I’ve found that the all-in-one installer sometimes times out during the
install process. If the script times out during the final “AIO: Adding Local
host (This may take several minutes)” step, you can proceed to the web admin
console to complete the process. If it times out at an earlier point, like
waiting for the jboss-as server to start, you should run “engine-cleanup” and
then re-run “engine-setup”)
and my quote:

(Before running engine-setup you have to edit:
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/scripts/plugins/ all_in_one_100.py
file and edit the waitForHostUp function so that the timeout is smaller. Like
this:
def waitForHostUp():
utils.retry(isHostUp, tries=40, timeout=300, sleep=5))

Installation on disable SElinux
==
If SElinux is disabled then oVirt installation does not work. So I think that
either is advised to use it or... it's fixed so that it works even without
SElinux.

All-in-one script should take care of last steps
==
Not sure about this last point but I think that AIO should be able to perform
the iso domain attachment to the datacenter in itself.
Check 5th step on:
http://blog.jebpages.com/archives/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-1-edition/

There might be more glitches but these are the most important ones for me that
I remember of.

Guide me help texts
==
One more. The Guide me dialogs are very handy. But I think they miss a little
help on them to explain such stupid things as what's the purpose of adding an
storage domain a datacenter.

[Users] Failed to import Vm from export to storagedomain

2013-01-03 Thread Ricky
Hi,

So, Finally I reinstalled the whole cluster after I have exported every VM.

I followed this wiki
http://wiki.dreyou.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=ovirt_rpm_start31.

Everything went up except that I just have one host installed in the
cluster. The other host is still serving the old cluster

When trying to import my old VMs I got problems with some of them not
beeing imported. But 3 of my VMs did and one of them was my
mailserver... but when I try to start the VM I hit the wall again.

I have attached the vdsm.log, right now I cant see the forest for all
the trees

With offline migration, I means the guest is not running while moving
it from one host to another.

I have 2 host machines for testing. One is running on a AMD Opteron and
the other Intel Xeon. Since I can not put both machines in the same
cluster, I have specified a cluster called AMD (for the opteron) and
another called Intel (for the xeon).
Now I would like to move a guest from the AMD machine to the Intel
machine. Since the CPU does not match I can't.

I assume the solution for this could be a generic cluster definition.
Something with a limited/specific cpu set equal to the qemu
configuration -cpu qemu32 or -cpu qemu64.

Soeren

For me, I'd like to see official rpms for RHEL6/CentOS6. According to
the traffic on this list quite a lot are using Dreyou's packages.

I'm going to second this strongly! Official support would be very much
appreciated. Bonus points for supporting a migration from the dreyou packages.
No offense to dreyou, of course, just rather be better supported by the
official line on Centos 6.x.

Better support/integration of windows based SPICE clients would also be much
appreciated, I have many end users on Windows, and it's been a chore to keep it
working so far. This includes the client drivers for windows VMs to support the
SPICE display for multiple displays. More of a client side thing, I know, but a

Thanks for the continued progress and support as well!

A nice feature would be to be able to migrate guests between AMD and
Intel host machines.
KVM should be able to support it [1]. I don't know if other hypervisors
are able/can to support this. Because oVirt aims to support different
hypervisors it might be problematic. But I think offline migration
should be possible.

can you please elaborate what do you mean by offline migration?

With offline migration, I means the guest is not running while moving
it from one host to another.

I have 2 host machines for testing. One is running on a AMD Opteron and
the other Intel Xeon. Since I can not put both machines in the same
cluster, I have specified a cluster called AMD (for the opteron) and
another called Intel (for the xeon).
Now I would like to move a guest from the AMD machine to the Intel
machine. Since the CPU does not match I can't.

I'm not aware that you can't.
you should be able to move the VM from one cluster to the other.
yes, it will see a different cpu model. why is that an issue?

I assume the solution for this could be a generic cluster definition.
Something with a limited/specific cpu set equal to the qemu
configuration -cpu qemu32 or -cpu qemu64.

Soeren

Hi and a happy new year

My name is Sven.
For the past 10 years I've collected extensible virtualization knowledge first

Since I've been a Fan of RedHat since V7.3 and oVirt is really the first
complete open source virtualization solution that I've heard of, I think it's
time for me to join the bandwagon.

I am planning a semi-enterprise grade test deployment (14 IBM blades as
hypervisors, clustered PG DB servers and about 20 TB of ISCSI storage, based on
FreeNAS) to be able to compare it to a vShpere deployment on identical (at
least almost) hardware and although a lot of the concepts seem to be very
similar, I am pretty sure I'll have lots and lots of questions.

So brace yourself... :-)

Re: [Users] What do you want to see in oVirt next?

2013-01-03 Thread Alexandru Vladulescu

Dear Itamar,

I would like to add a request for the new upper coming version 3.2 if
possible:

Although some of you use spice instead of VNC, as I am an Ubuntu user on
my desktop and laptop, spice protocol is not working withing my OS; even
if I tried to build it from source, search unofficial deb packs or
convert if from rpm packages. I know spice is strongly supported on the
Fedora community, but I, myself on the server side work on RH Enterprise
and Centos, but as for desktop use, I have a very hard time make the
spice plugin for firefox to work.

Therefore for my solution I had setup a VNC reflector + some shell
automation to make it work between 2 different subnets (one inside and
one outside) -- this, somehow, adding to the initial scope.

This would have been much more easier to have a VNC proxy inside the
ovirt engine function, from where to make the necessary setups and
assignments of the console to each VM, or even though I might sound
funny to make a solution as vrde on Vbox, because works damn great and
it's easy to setup or change.

Last question, If I might ask, when is the 3.2 planned to be released
(aprox)?

Cordially,
Alex.

Subject: Re: [Users] ovirt and EqualLogic iSCSI SAN

well, my point for asking is, so far on my EQ san i never see more
 than 1
session per ovirt node, and the point of the EQ driver is so that
 each
iscsi-client can create multiple iscsi sessions per LUN as needed.

myself, I'm using M620 blades for my nodes, and its connected to the
backplane switches which are stacked. if i use the standard EQ
 config,
both interfaces on the iscsi switch (in the case of my M620, p3p1 and
p3p2) would have their own separate IP address, and the EQ driver
 would
normally cause both interfaces to establish iscsi sessions to the
 LUN.
but when i tried this, only 1 IP address logged in, and that leaves
 me
with a single point of failure scenario which for us isn't acceptable
 at
 this time.

so my current config is bonded p3p1 and p3p2 in LACP, and this is
 what i
rely on for fault tolerant connections to the EQ san. but if you put
 a
call into to Dell/EQ for performance issues, the first thing they
 will
tell you the problem is, is the lack of the EQ driver and the use of
 LACP
 to access the EQ.

and for now, this is working, but just due to the nature of the EQ
 san,
its not the optimal. RHEV is *not* on the supported OS list for
 this, so
Dell just scratch their head while trying to tell me what to do to
 make
this work as best as it can for me. needless to say when dell comes
 out
next week to validate the deployment probably the only thing that
 will
pass is the switch config :)

maybe someday ill upgrade from MyFirstSan to a bigboy san heheehh
 *wink*

i have had to abandon (hopefully just for now) getting my ovirt
  nodes
properly setup with my equal logic iscsi SAN. EQ has a special
  iscsi
driver, and it appears that ovirt uses the regular iscsi commands
  to
connect to the storage, circumventing the features of the EQ
  driver.

unless I'm wrong, which i totally could be.

in case I'm not, will there ever be a chance of supporting the EQ
iscsi features, and if there is a chance, how can i help?

ps-- in case someone asks, here is the basic difference between a
normal linux iscsi command set, and the equallogic iscsi command
  set:

  normal linux:
  iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
  iscsiadm -m node -T FULLIQN -p IPADDRESS -l
  fdisk /dev/yaymydevice

  equallogic:
  iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
ehcmcli login --target FULLIQN --portal IPADDRESS
which will then present you your device, such as
  /dev/eql/yaymydeviceŠ

  thanks,
  Jonathan

Re: [Users] Testing gluster in 3.2 nightlies

something that I didn't know about was going to ask if it was possible
to implement, namely setting permissions on the volume folder when
creating a gluster volume.
But when trying it out I found a little snag. I installed two hosts
with a minimal fed17 install, added a couple of repos to enable
installing the latest nightlies (it needed a later then 0.9 libvirt
(0.10 from danken) and qemu-kvm and since a couple of days a later
gluster which outputs in xml (gluster-3.4..)

Steps:
- start with a clean engine-setup
- in the webui, set the cluster to 3.2 and virt+gluster, set the DC to
3.2/NFS

- add the two hosts, went OK.
- add a Volume, gluster-data, gets created OK, BUT the Create Volume
'popup window' never stops spinning its busy cursor :-(
Looking at the logs I see that the volume is created, st01 is used,
st02 gets the message, creation is returning Succes but it looks like
the global lock is never released.
We have an issue with locking while creating a volume, fix for this is

For me, I'd like to see official rpms for RHEL6/CentOS6. According to
the traffic on this list quite a lot are using Dreyou's packages.

I'm going to second this strongly! Official support would be very much
appreciated. Bonus points for supporting a migration from the dreyou
packages. No offense to dreyou, of course, just rather be better
supported by the official line on Centos 6.x.

EL6 rpms are planned to be delivered with 3.2 GA version, and nightly
 builds from there on.
hopefully we can push it to 3.2 beta.

 Moran.

Great news! Thanks a lot.

Patrick

Hi,

Deploying multiple VMs from 1 template at the same time. Currently you have to
wait until the template image is available again.

Best regards,
