Deploying multiple VMs from 1 template at the same time. Currently you have to 
wait until the template image is "available" again.

st02 gets the message, creation is returning Succes but it looks like 
the global lock is never released.
We have an issue with locking while creating a volume, fix for this is 
currently under review.

The last line isn't an accident that is how the log ends after more 
then 15min of waiting.


To get any further I can press ESC in the create volume window and 
then I need to restart ovirt-engine and can proceed.

For me, I'd like to see official rpms for RHEL6/CentOS6. According to

I'm going to second this strongly! Official support would be very much 
appreciated. Bonus points for supporting a migration from the dreyou

chore to keep it working so far. This includes the client drivers for 
windows VMs to support the SPICE display for multiple displays. More 
of a client side thing, I know, but a desired feature in my environment.

I would like to add a request for the new upper coming version 3.2 if 
possible:


Although some of you use spice instead of VNC, as I am an Ubuntu user on 
my desktop and laptop, spice protocol is not working withing my OS; even 
if I tried to build it from source, search unofficial deb packs or 
convert if from rpm packages. I know spice is strongly supported on the 
Fedora community, but I, myself on the server side work on RH Enterprise 
and Centos, but as for desktop use, I have a very hard time make the 
spice plugin for firefox to work.


Therefore for my solution I had setup a VNC reflector + some shell 
automation to make it work between 2 different subnets (one inside and 
one outside) -- this, somehow, adding to the initial scope.


This would have been much more easier to have a VNC proxy inside the 
ovirt engine function, from where to make the necessary setups and 
assignments of the console to each VM, or even though I might sound 
funny to make a solution as vrde on Vbox, because works damn great and 
it's easy to setup or change.


Last question, If I might ask, when is the 3.2 planned to be released 
(aprox)?

spice-spice upstream has a guest tools installer that includes the inguest 
drivers - signed but not WHQL'd.

[Users] node loses contact with rhev agent

i have 2 nodes now that have both lost contact with the rhev agents on guest 
VMs.  if i migrate the guest to another node, the IP address and memory usage 
immediately show up.  migrate a guest back, and the IP/memory info disappears.

how can i troubleshoot what is causing this?

My name is Sven.
For the past 10 years I've collected extensible virtualization knowledge first 
with vmWare and later on Xen and HyperV.
Since I've been a Fan of RedHat since V7.3 and oVirt is really the first 
complete open source virtualization solution that I've heard of, I think it's 
time for me to join the bandwagon.

I am planning a semi-enterprise grade test deployment (14 IBM blades as 
hypervisors, clustered PG DB servers and about 20 TB of ISCSI storage, based on 
FreeNAS) to be able to compare it to a vShpere deployment on identical (at 
least almost) hardware and although a lot of the concepts seem to be very 
similar, I am pretty sure I'll have lots and lots of questions.

Yes, I should have said guest drivers for spice, mixing my throughs on spice 
clients with the guest VMs themselves. Best way I can think of to describe it 
would be the ovirt equivalent of "rhev-guest-tools-iso-3.0-37.noarch.rpm" or 
whatever version they are on now.

I'm going to second this strongly! Official support would be very much
appreciated. Bonus points for supporting a migration from the dreyou
packages. No offense to dreyou, of course, just rather be better
supported by the official line on Centos 6.x.


Better support/integration of windows based SPICE clients would also be
much appreciated, I have many end users on Windows, and it's been a
chore to keep it working so far. This includes the client drivers for
windows VMs to support the SPICE display for multiple displays. More of
a client side thing, I know, but a desired feature in my environment.


these would be guest drivers for spice, rather than client ones, right?

another called Intel (for the xeon).
Now I would like to move a guest from the AMD machine to the Intel
machine. Since the CPU does not match I can't.


I'm not aware that you can't.
you should be able to move the VM from one cluster to the other.
yes, it will see a different cpu model. why is that an issue?




I assume the solution for this could be a generic cluster definition.
Something with a limited/specific cpu set equal to the qemu
configuration "-cpu qemu32" or "-cpu qemu64".

on 10.8 i have to use VNC which is not ideal. I now spice != ovirt however they 
are very linked at this time.

exactly. The flow is 
1. enter portal IP
2. click discover
3. login (to all or specific targets)
4. for additional portal IPs - goto #1

[Users] Failed to import Vm from export to storagedomain

Hi,

So, Finally I reinstalled the whole cluster after I have exported every VM.

I followed this wiki
http://wiki.dreyou.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=ovirt_rpm_start31.

Everything went up except that I just have one host installed in the
cluster. The other host is still serving the old cluster

When trying to import my old VMs I got problems with some of them not
beeing imported. But 3 of my VMs did and one of them was my
mailserver... but when I try to start the VM I hit the wall again.

I have attached the vdsm.log, right now I cant see the forest for all
the trees

It cannot be supported by KVM in any meaningful way - it requires running VMs 
as the lowest common denominator which looks and performs more like a Pentium 
IV.

uploaded ISOs -> engine-iso-upload
- offer official RPMs for RHEL/CentOS etc
- a scheduling system or "simple" cron for planning VM snapshots + export 
possibility (simple backup system)
- allow unattended installation of ovirt-nodes via kickstart (for example)
- I don't know if that is technical possible at this point:
  bond/extend ovirtmgmt with a second network to increase network bandwidth /  
HA failover time.

For me, I'd like to see official rpms for RHEL6/CentOS6. According to
the traffic on this list quite a lot are using Dreyou's packages.

But I'm really looking forward to oVirt 3.2 (reading all those commit
whets my appetite) :)

IIRC, you can still discover/login to the actual portals of the EQL SAN, not 
just the front-end IP, and if you login to all of those, you will get your 
multipathed setup right away

It was originally configured via REST. I used the Admin Portal
only to verify my configuration. As a last resort I tried to
configure it through the Admin Portal, but it didn't work either.
So I ended up using the "run once" method, as described in my
previous e-mail.

[Users] Destktop VM to Server VM ?

First of all, a Happy new year to every subscriber of the list.

My first concern of the year about ovirt:

Is it possible to change the type of an existing VM from desktop to
server by any possible means?
In my case, the VM was imported from KVM to Ovirt 3.0 environment
using virt-v2v. I have just found out that the VM was recognized as
desktop while expected as server .

EQL storage works just fine as a normal iscsi SAN, using the normal iscsiadm 
commands. The hitkit is doing things differently, and that's not necessarily 
the right thing to do. oVirt is trying to keep things generic, using standard 
commands, standard daemons and access paths

[Users] ovirt and EqualLogic iSCSI SAN

i have had to abandon (hopefully just for now) getting my ovirt nodes properly 
setup with my equal logic iscsi SAN.  EQ has a special iscsi driver, and it 
appears that ovirt uses the regular iscsi commands to connect to the storage, 
circumventing the features of the EQ driver.

unless I'm wrong, which i totally could be.

in case I'm not, will there ever be a chance of supporting the EQ iscsi 
features, and if there is a chance, how can i help?


ps-- in case someone asks, here is the basic difference between a normal linux 
iscsi command set, and the equallogic iscsi command set:

normal linux:
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
iscsiadm -m node -T FULLIQN -p IPADDRESS -l
fdisk /dev/yaymydevice

equallogic:
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p IPADDRESS
ehcmcli login --target FULLIQN  --portal IPADDRESS
which will then present you your device, such as /dev/eql/yaymydevice…

OK - When migrating from the GUI it appears to just hang but in the engine.log

That looks like a certificate installation error. There was some thread
recently where exactly such issue was resolved.

[Users] REST API: Change boot device / attach CD-ROM

Hi,

I'm using the REST API to change the boot device and attach CD-ROM images.
At least I try to...  Currently I'm using the following calls to achieve this:

Task: attach cdrom
Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%/cdroms
Method: POST
Data: 

Task: change boot order
Path: https://ovirt-engine.example.com/vms/%%%VM-ID%%%
Method: PUT
Data: 


And it seems to work, because I can see the changes to the cdrom...








...and the boot device is also changed...

[...]

...but the VM won't boot off the CD-ROM device, instead it just
boots from the first harddisk. So what am I doing wrong?

Besides that I can see these settings on the oVirt Admin Portal, too.
The first boot device is "CD-ROM", the CD is attached and the Image is
"FreeBSD-8.3-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso". Looks good to me. But it still
won't boot from CD-ROM.

The only way I am able to boot from CD-ROM is when using the 
"Run once" function on the Admin Portal and configure the CD-ROM
device/image there (temporarely overwriting my config).

It will NOT work if I configure the CD-ROM device through the REST
API or the Admin Portal. Just "Run Once" will do the right thing.

Sounds strange, don't you think? So the question is: Is it a known
bug or did I broke something with the above API calls?

Wow, that was quick, thanks for the hint! Changing the value was easy:

# engine-config -g VncKeyboardLayout
VncKeyboardLayout: en-us version: general
# engine-config -s VncKeyboardLayout=de --cver=general

I did a quick test: shutdown a VM and power-on again. 
But unfortunately the VNC console keyboard is still odd.

when using oVirt 3.1 the locale for all VNC consoles defaults to en_US.
This is OK if the user is using the same locale. But with any other
locale on the client side (fr_FR, de_DE), the keyboard is really 
scrambled. As a result the VNC console is somewhat useless for an 
affected user.

So my questions are...

1. How do I change the locale for VNC, either globally or for each VM?
2. Will there be an REST API call to configure the locale of the console?

The Tools CD is no longer a hard requirement because we copy essential 
drivers to the guest image during the conversion process so they'll be 
picked up on first boot anyway. It remains a recommendation though, as 
it's the preferred delivery method for driver updates.

no interfaces.

You need to configure your UCS chassis to assign dynamic NICs to the hosts. An 
unassigned dynamic NIC can be easily detected as a device that has a mac that 
looks like 00:00:00:00:00:00 (which is what the vmfex hook looks for)
