I am running this app with an iPhone 5S with iOS 10; that is all about to be 
upgraded at some point soon.  So I can’t speak to if it even works in version 
11.  

 

Most of the buttons and tabs seem to speak.  I usually use the radio tab and 
swipe over to the list of states and provinces, which will list the available 
stations.  I can enter a state, such as Florida, where I happen to live, and go 
through the list of stations and double tap the button for the staion I want, 
for example Daytona Beach, which is my local station.  It doesn’t have every 
station in the system, but it does  have quite a selection.  Sometimes you have 
to be aware of where the station might be located, for example, if you were 
looking for Cincinnati, you would not find it in Ohio since the station is over 
the river in Covington, Kentucky, so it is in that list.  I discovered that 
when I was chedcking weather for the Cubs vs. Reds baseball series last week.  

 

When you open a station it should automatically play, and then you can swipe 
right over to pause to stop the broadcast when you are done, which is 
announced.  

 

I had originally found this app through ViA, which was an accessible app guide 
app from the Braill Institute of Los Angeles which I used to have on my phone.  
I took ViA off my phone as it was taking up a small amount of space, I wasn’t 
really using it any more and I was unsure it it would survive transitioning to 
iOS 11.  So it seems to be a handy app to have around; I hope it survives the 
upgrade.

How to mute iPad 6

Hi all,
I purchased an iPad6 for my wife the other day. Her iPad Air had a mute switch 
on the side to mute all sounds. The 6 does not have this switch. So how do we 
mute it? She uses the mute switch when she does not wish to hear incoming Face 
time calls or sounds when playing a game.

Kelly, what sort of restrictions are you referring to with regards to 
purchasing music on iTunes. You certainly don’t have to. But I am unaware of 
any restrictions involved with purchased music. They haven’t had DRM on that 
for years.

The discontinuation is speculation for now. At some point the theory
goes that Apple will only offer streaming and end iTunes sales. I have
never bought music from iTunes. I don’t like the restrictions. Also,
when I tried it a couple of years ago, there was limited selection of
classic jazz albums with only the big names being available. I rip
CD’s and transfer the audio files onto my iPhone. This functionality
will continue to the foreseeable future.  I can share individual
tracks with another iPhone user through Airdrop.

up front, and at that time, there wasn’t a way to pay using my iTunes credit.

can recollect, even 
though I made a mental note of where it was to be found so that I could ask the

what it meant.

seem to recall having seen any kind of information anywhere on the device 
regarding what was supposed to have been fixed or enhanced in an incremental

Hello There,

I’ve recently upgraded from my One to a Charge 2.  Now, I do have some limited 
vision, and have been using one sort of Fitbit or another since 2014.  

I used a magnifier to read the code from my Charge 2 when setting it up.  And 
like others have said there are some buttons that are not accessible, However, 
the app is for the most part accessible.  

I almost got an Apple Watch, but it’s hard to come up with that kind of mone!  
Plus, I have a lot of other people that I’ve been in challenges with so, I’d 
miss that!

Even though I subscribe to Apple Music, there have been a few cases where I 
still had to purchase the albums through iTunes, because the album/albums were 
not available for streaming. I guess the artist/record labels can specify how 
Apple can make it available to their customer base. If they do away with 
purchases, then they will need to make all of their music catalog available.

Square Cash Help

Hi all,

I wanted to see if anyone is using the Square Cash app successfully with 
VoiceOVer. I had been told you could get VoiceOVer to work through bluetooth 
headphones when the Square reader was in your headphone jack but I tried this 
and it did not work. Can anyone get it to work, or is there a different credit 
card scanner that now works with bluetooth and does not need to be plugged in 
to teh headphone jack? Also has anyone bought the $15 splitter from Amazon and 
if so does it allow you to use VO when scanning a credit card? Thank you.

Spotify app. That is how you pay for most things from your iTunes account

Spot on. Download a song, album or playlist, then it will only be on that 
device. Cancelling your subscription means you will lose all that, unless you 
have purchased or ripped them from your own collection and uploaded them via 
iTunes Match. Adding to library simply makes it available on all devices signed 
into the same Apple Music subscription; it does not automatically download them 
to that device.

To address your question about adding music to your library versus it
being downloaded to your device:
You can control that behavior by going to your Music's Settings. You
can configure it to download to your devices every time you add a song
to your playlist or library, or not, meaning you will just play it

There is a skill call anypod that you can use on your echo for Podcasts. It 
works pretty well. And it could be used to take some of 
the load off your phone or if you’re in the kitchen or wherever your echo

I have only experienced a problem with one complication when AutoSpeak is 
enabled and that is with Weather Gods.

The only way I got it to work was to switch from my Modular Watchface to 
another then back again.

May be worth a try to see if this solves your issue too.

and says she really loves it. You can do notes with your tasks and you can do

As some of you may know Indian Premier League Cricket has just begun
and as it would happen All India Radio is not broadcasting the live
ball by ball audio commentary.  I know that the commentary is
available in UK on Talksports 2 and in UAE on Radio 4.  I tried to
listen to talksport using Tunnel bear but more often then not the VPN
failed though I was connected through UK.  Is their better VPN?  As I
played Talksport sometimes the commentary would play and suddenly it
would disappear and I would get the announcement that the programme is
not available outside UK due to rights or some thinkg like that.
I know that talksport commentary is not all that great but all the
same.  I want any commentary, official or unofficial.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh yeah! it is. 

I use it a lot when I am unsure of my exact location along a residential road. 
It also helps in some kinds of office parks.

Also, you might also want to try out blind square. It can also give you an idea 
of where you are, and if you highlight a place in the list, it can even give 
you distance and bearing to the target location. :)

btw, I just tried to open the "where the hell am I" app and Siri responded with 
my exact location instead. ROFLMAO.

They know most stream now a days. I don't mind this so much I have not
gotten in album off of ITunes in years. I have apple music though.

Donald,
Test Siri when you are outside in front of your house.
GPS accuracy goes down as soon as you go into a building.
But, remember, all GPS accuracy is dependent on a lot of factors and I would 
not trust it for pinpoint locations, but it can be very good within 50 feet or 
so if all is well.

The safeway app

Hi all, well, there was an update to the safeway app but once I get to the
place order button I can't place the order, its frustrating because I have
no issues other than that, is any one else experiencing the same problem? 

 

I have an iPhone 7 and the latest update.

I usually listen to Today In iOS using my preferred podcast app, Overcast. 
However, I also have the app for a couple of reasons. It makes it easy to 
contact the podcast creator and to search for content. The person who wanted to 
know when VoiceOVer is first mentioned might be able to find out using the app, 
for example. It also provides notifications about significant Apple events and 
when podcasts are released, which can be useful. In addition, it provides 
direct access to written material Rob produces that he refers to in the 
podcasts.

I did a search on the App Store for this app. I did not see a free version. The 
one I saw past $.99. I don’t like to buy any apps unless I am absolutely 
certain that they are voiceover accessible. Is this one completely accessible?

good todo list app

Can anyone suggest a good todo task reminder type of app for the IPhone?

I have multiple projects going at work, nad could use some help
remembering what the deadlines are and / or when a particular new
one-time task needs to be accomplished.

Also something that could allow me to make some notes about tasks
would be helpful as well.

This may be a "silly" question, but I figured I would ask it since
others may not know as well.
When I am out taking our grand dog for a walk, I would like my IPhone
to help me determine when I am back home.  Our house is in the middle
of the block, and when I am out with my cane I count the mail boxes to
determine when I am at our house, but when walking the dog, she

VoiceOver? I thought of writing in and asking him; however, other 
than a partial mention of it for an occasional PayPal donation,

If you use Apple music, and you download an album or song to your 
device, is it only going to be on that device?

Also, if you were to give up Apple music, then whatever you have

I should have clarified myself a little better.  I download music from Apple 
Music using a monthly subscription.  I do, however, stream music as well.

You’re talking about what you purchase being covered for the month: I didn’t 
think that with Apple Music you purchase anything, but you were just streaming, 
and all that is covered for the month. If they do stop downloads, I guess 
they’re thinking, that you could create a playlist if you just want individual 
songs, but if you should want to burn some songs onto a CD, or, share an 
individual song with someone like are you like to do sometimes, I don’t see how 
you could if they discontinue being able to download.

On the radio station I was listening to they did not cite the source, so on the 
Internet there were a few articles, including from the daily mail. Mac world 
also had an article about it.

The reason is, that Apple wants to promote Apple Music so that it can catch up 
with Spotify.

have heard of this app and if so, how accessible is it to a blind person?  This 
app apparently can perform many tasks such as moving songs around and other 
various things.

Downloading music from iTunes supposedly being discontinued in 2019

Heard this today as part of a business report. This is like Verizon firing the

I'm also experiencing this emoji mispronunciation issue on my iPhone 7 running 
iOS 11.2.6 and using Samantha enhanced voice. As Sieghard has said, I expect 
this should be fairly easy to correct but why it happened in the first place is 
perplexing. I get this bizarre pronunciation of emoji whenever VoiceOver speaks 
that word whether I come across it in settings, on one of my keyboards, or 
within the body of this email. Since I'm still using iOS 11.2.6, it seems as if 
it isn't an iOS version issue.

A blind friend of mine is in a singing group in her local area and the sighted

There is a skill call anypod that you can use on your echo for Podcasts. It 
works pretty well. And it could be used to take some of the load off your phone 
or if you’re in the kitchen or wherever your echo devices located and you just 
want to listen to a podcast. I still like the dedicated podcast app on my phone 
better, especially for those few podcast that actually have chapters in them. 
But anypod is a nice skilll.

T-downloader help!

Hi all.
I'm using T-downloader and I get a message that the file is done downloading. I 
go to the file in the "files" list and it says it is not even remotely close to 
the size it is supposed to be. I see the entire file in my downloads list... 
and it is the right size. When I doubletap on the file in the downloads list 
the only option is "show in files." Can someone please help? I don't@ want to 
keep downloading this file as not to use all my data. Is it complete or no? If 
it isn't why dont I have an option to resume the download? Can anyone recommend 
another better file download option?

Hi Terry,

First of all, I consider myself moderately adept with dictation and editing 
errors and making corrections.  I have found that FaceBook is notoriously 
unmanageable for using dictation appropriately.

I realize this doesn’t answer your question nor resolve your problem, but I 
thought you might feel considerably better knowing this.

Now, to answer your question; first things first, I would make certain that the 
“Text Edit” feature is present in your rotor. I personally find this feature 
very useful in proof-reading and correcting dictation errors.  If you’re 
unfamiliar with “Text Edit” I advise you get acquainted with this tool as it’s 
quite helpful.

Alternatively, you might consider opening the “Notes” app and dictating (or 
otherwise entering your message therein), making any corrections and selecting 
the entirety of that note and copying it to the “Paste Board” for pasting into 
the FaceBook message field.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this message, I have found FaceBook to be so 
“unfriendly” to dictation and follow-up edittings, Notes seems to be much 
kinder in this regard - maybe that’s just a personal preference so take this 
for what it’s worth to you!

I have only experienced a problem with one complication when AutoSpeak is 
enabled and that is with Weather Gods.

The only way I got it to work was to switch from my Modular Watchface to 
another then back again.

May be worth a try to see if this solves your issue too.

I so far found that listening to Podcasts with the Echo does not work well at 
all. If as Richard you google this you find a bunch of 
information mostly saying that Alexa gets the Podcasts from Tune In and that 
you can use the Alexa app on the phone to search for 
Podcasts and then play them via the Echo. This of course is ridiculously 
complicated, much easier then to open my favourite Podcast 
app where I have already set up a list of my favourite Podcasts. It is also 
interesting to note that you can enable skills for other 
services like Spreaker and you are supposed to be able to say "Alexa, ask 
Spreaker to play..." followed by the Podcast name. 
However, when I tried this it worked just as poorly.
Unless Alexa can play the Podcasts I like when I tell her to and without fuss I 
will just use my iPhone and Overcast.

I know these things can be done, and some get good at it, but I wasn't one of 
them.

Dictation for me has two main requirements:  know what I want to say, say it in 
small sections like a single sentence, then double 
tap to add it.  But whatever else I do, don't touch the input field, as that is 
what is moving focus to G knows where.  So long as I 
keep focus at bottom of screen by space and dictate buttons, and VO tells me 
what was added at each stage, it does go in the order 
you quote it.  I'll leave the editing experts to talk through the rest of it.
