Difference between vnc server and X11 ports

Hi, I found that there are 5900 to 5999 ports allocated to vnc server and 6000+ ports allocated to x11. Could anyone please tell me what is the difference between vnc server and x11 and why this is differentiation is there in ports? Is vnc server can use the port allocated to x11? Thanks,
