Think of all the characters that evolved thru out the show. In addition to
Goober...his cousin Gomer started out as a gas jockey became a master mechanic
and eventually joined the Marines. Barney started as Andy's cousin who was
chosen deputy, and moved on to the big city police department
Thanks to all who corrected my error. I rushed my response and didn't think
about the Mayberry mayor being two separate characters. One position I
guess...but two separate named characters for the position.

The other day someone mentioned that certain TAGS characters (such as Gomer)
have names that are found in the Holy Bible. So here's a new trivia question:

The shadiest person ever to visit Mayberry has to be Henry Wheeler. Not only
did he deliberately park his truck in a shady spot, but rumor has it that he
also spent a great deal of his time hanging out at a place called the Shady
Rest Hotel. If that ain't shady, I don't know what is.

figure that with the same actor, Jay Novello, playing both of these
characters, they must be twice as shady as the rest.

First of all, thanks to Ken for his post. Ken always seems to come up with
very interesting ways to analyze TAGS episodes.
My vote goes to Gentleman Dan Caldwell. Gentleman Dan receives my vote due to
his very deceptive personality and because he pulled a gun on Aunt Bee and Opie.

adding Charlie Ruggles to the regular cast would have been a good move. He

I heard George Spence (Frank the Finance in Guest in the House) mentioned the
name Joe Layton (Con man/Intercontinental News in Crime-free Mayberry) when

It's hard to choose between Harriet down at the Bank and Clara. On the one
hand, being a non-practicing banker by profession, I would love to be in the
banking business in Mayberry where it was a real, service oriented, community

In the episode The Cave Rescue,I think Barney was wearing civies that day.As
for a new character,I do believe Tim Conway would have been a great Barney in a
movie.Lest we forget,David Browning would be a natural .

Instead of wishing we could see more of a certain character on TAGS which aint

George in The Lost Colony. That names was used for the Intercontinental News
photographer / safe cracker in Crime-free Mayberry.

Aunt Bee's character was a good one. She showed mercy, when needed, and showed

I think Warren simply had an impossible act to follow in Barney. There really
was nothing wrong with his character in and of himself.
It seems to me that the actor tried to make Warren somewhat different than

Personally I think Van Dyke's character would've worn out fast if he
remained like he was on that one episode, even though I loved him as Luther
on Coach.
I'm not sure the Jerry Miller character would have worked in the long run
anyway, although they sure could have had some great musical
