I did not know about the rewrite. Interesting. I can't see introducing the Infinity Gauntlet on the heels of the Cosmic Cube/Tesseract (as it is called in Captain America, apparently). One super artifact should be enough.
I could see using the Skrulls, I guess. I never really liked them. But I can see a movie where Nick Fury has the Avengers work together because SHIELD has found out that high ranking officials are being replaced with Skrulls with the intent of obtaining the Cube in order to openly invade the Earth. Skrulls just don't seem like a good foe for Thor. Iron Man, alright, I can give you that. Maybe they have super ray guns or something which can damage the armor. But Skrulls can't stand up to Thor, especially as he was portrayed in the movie. I guess they're a better choice than the Space Phantom. Honestly, my favorite Avengers villain is Kang and I know we won't get him.
