I was also trying to address your wish to (a) run the same flavors of Linux on laptop and desktop, and (b) give up trying to get the desktop to run SBS under LMDE. I see you've chosen to say with running SBS on your newer Windows desktop, which is the most acceptable solution for you among an array of sub-optimal options.
