Hello Everyone,
The refurb of my 66 Safari is not going well today. Discovered lots of floor
rot near the toilet and the black holding tank has a crack in it. I will
probably drop the tank to examine and see if its repairable. Does anyone
have experience with this?
Thanks
Ray

Don't worry, I will. I thought about getting that 1990 because it's newer=
.
But it's to square, the blue strip is vinyl tape that looks tacky, just t=
o many things about it that just turns me away.
I'll stick to the old round ended ones, they look so much better, heck wi=

Is it a rear bath? If so, you should talk with Mr. Joy Hansen. He has inf=

Jim, I agree totally, I have a Dotco 100,000 RPM turbine grinder with 1/8"
collet, I acquired the thing in 1978, and believe it or not its the "NO OIL"
type. While I have not used it every day since then it has performed
flawlessly and ground down hundreds of welds on bronze and aluminum
castings. I am just now ordering the parts to rebuild it! We tried the
electric type grinders which quickly got too hot and then burned themselves
up! The flexible shaft type did the same and turned too slowly. However
one has to be carful with the composite stones and wheels as they may spin
apart at 100,000 RPMs. Cheers, GAS

I have a 75 Argosy 26 and love it. Mine has fiberglass end caps, not steel
ones, and thus I have had no problems with dissimilar metals or paint
sticking. Doesn't sound like you have, either. Charlie Burke is The Man when
it comes to Argosy trailers. He's too modest to mention this, but has one of
the most beautiful Argosys I've seen. Pix of his restoration job are up on
his website, and I'm sure he'd give you the url if you asked.

The inside is real nice. The Outside looks like a shiny box. It is not ro=
unded at the ends like the older models or even the new ones. From what I=
understand in my research of this style the square ones were made from a=
round 1989 to 1991 or 1992 as an attempt to get more inline with other tr=
ailers. Did not go over well with the Airstream fanatics/purist nor did i=
t do well towing. They say it was ok because the top edges are angled sli=
ghtly to reduce drag but it's not as good as the vintage style. Price is =
a bargain but they really hold no value to other A/S's manly due to lack =
of shape.

The Landyacht is one of the more overworked names in the Airstream =20
corral. Over the years it has been a model, a trim level, and since 1990 =20
the chosen designator for most of their flat sided motorhomes. So it =20
depends were you've seen it and how old it is. =20

When I asked about the Land Yacht name usage, I received several response=

This is one I received from someone on the Airstream Boomers mail list a=

Subject: Black Water Tanks and Showers

Hello All,
I'm in the process of determining how I am going to add a black water tank
and a shower to my 59 Traveler.

I remember postings from a number of folks that said they had photos on their
websites of a blackwater tank installation but can't remember who. I looked
over Tom Patterson's site but didn't find what I was looking for or just
missed it.

Also, does anyone have a resource for a shower stall that will fit in the
rear corner of the coach? I'm thinking of having a base fabricated in either
fiberglass or stainless that would curve with the rear panels. I could also
move it forward towards the wheel well, and thought that I might be able to
locate a prefab from a boat builder. The best I have seen is the single piece
shower stall in fiberglass in the new Bambi, I wonder if AS would sell that?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Ed,
What is your floor plan like? A friend of mine has a tub from a '60 Traveler
that I don't think he'll be using. It came from the curbside rear. Should
fit your contour as well. It needs some fiberglas work done as it has
surface cracks in it. I can't remember the color. Let me know off list if
you're interested, I'll contact him.

I highly doubt that your '58 would of been prewired/reinforced for rooftop
A/C. When our '60 Overlander had A/C installed back in the 70's the factory
installed a partial rib or something to support the weight. Charlie Burke
would know for sure how early the prewiring was done.

As for your fantastic vent, remember that it runs on 12V DC.

Subject: Bambi window repair

The grey glass retaining strips in the windows of our '61 Bambi have
shrunk by an inch or more, so we want to replace them before they
start leaking in earnest. I bought the new strip from Airstream
Dreams, a perfect match for the original. I checked RJ's site for
tips on window repair and it all looks quite doable but...

On the older (I think pre-63 or thereabouts) models the little
eyebrow rain gutter above the window curves down at the end such that
it is not possible to slide the window out of the frame. Has anyone
worked out a way to do this?

I'd rather avoid bending or removing the gutter. Or has anyone tried
the repair with the window in place?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,
Brian

If you don't want to re-scan, send them to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
I'll compress the file even further, and return it to you. I don't mind the
large file size (if your ISP doesn't).

Brian,

There is no need to remove the window frame from the trailer if all you are
going to do is to replace the retainer strips.

Scott,

I should have been more specific: Since the butyl packing behind the
glass seems pretty dried out, I wanted to replace that too.

Maybe I'll just buy/beg/borrow/rent a big suction cup and do it all
from outside.

Thanks,
Brian

Not all the windows are hunkered up under the drip caps, but some are.
I've got around those by removing the 3 end rivets on one end of the
cap and flexing the end return out of the way to remove the window. The
replacing the 3 rivets with Olympic rivits and shaving them.

This is also a good time to replace damaged drip caps, too. They are
available in aluminum in all the sizes Airstream used. Some carry them
in stock, others have to order them in. I know DeLuxe RV in Paramount
has them. They are real cheap, only $2.50 to $5.50 each.

Just returned from getting the '76 31' Sov out of hock with Oasis RV. It
developed the dread frame separation :^(. Picked it up Sat a.m. and spend
the weekend in a State campground enjoying it, and the meteor shower.

Anyhoo, they fixed that, and replaced the shocks. Also fixed a bunch of
small things (dents, dings, electrical shorts, etc.) at no charge, which was
very nice. Sad to say that Cliff the parts guy is no longer there, but Jay,
the service guy still is. Very nice bunch of folks to deal with.

The A/S had an 'add-on' grey water tank that turned out to be steel, and
that was removed and trashed, so we lost a couple of hundred pounds there.

I had earlier mentioned that I installed a satellite dish, but unfortunately
took no pics. Will take some of the completed installation with annotations
on how I did it for those interested, and will post to the archives (when I
figure out how to do it).

When I replaced the glass in one of my windows I just opened the window
enought that I did not have to worry about loosing the glass. Otherwise the
water drip "eyebrow" must be bent up to allow clearance to remove the frame.
