I bought two Airstreams from the owners of Pine Glen RV park in PC, FL.
Great people and a nice facility worth checking into. Screened in patios
and very convenient to everything.

Thanks to those who responded to my request for removing the eyebrow
windows on our 68 Sovereign International.

Unfortunately, I should have referred to the upper windows by their
proper name - vistaview. Most responses thought that I meant the crank
open side windows. Actually I meant the upper ones above the side
windows.

Has anyone taken them out? I am reluctant to haphazardly drill rivets
(even thought the inside ones are pop rivets).

Hello George

I decided to pass on it. Just can't come to grips with that square shape.=
It is in great shape, and doesn't appear to have any leaks that I could =
find. I still see a box, I prefer the rounded ones.
Besides, I have two 29 foot Ambassadors sitting in my back drive way. One=
is a '66 (which I would like to sell) and the other is a '73. My wife is=
ready to have her old parking place back, so having two is pushing it an=
d three is out of the question. =20

Hi Bobby,

You didn't say but I assume it is the trailer model. I have an '89
and love it but would change two things. First the clear coat decided
this year it had enough of our Texas sunshine, blistered, dried up
and fell off of the top of the trailer. Second, it has developed two leak=
s
at the rear of the trailer at the lower trim line and rotted the floor
in two places. I gave $10K for the '89 two years ago, so your $7K is
a good deal if it is in great shape with everything working and no
clear coat or leak problems. Let us know if you buy it.

The Landyacht is one of the more overworked names in the Airstream
corral. Over the years it has been a model, a trim level, and since 1990
the chosen designator for most of their flat sided motorhomes. So it
depends were you've seen it and how old it is.

Here is a response I recieved from [EMAIL PROTECTED] about the use of Land Y=
acht. =20
  Bobby
When Wally Byam first built Airstream he wanted the owners to feel as if =
they were in a boat on the land, thus he said to refer to Airstreams as L=
and Yacht and not trailers. Then as the Land Yachts progressed, there we=
re 3 models made, Standard, non-self contained, today would be called a =
Park Model, then the Land Yacht Model, a self contained unit, and the Int=
ernational Land Yacht which had all the bells and whistels available at t=
hat time. I think since about the early 80's the terms have changed, but=
the last one I owned as a 26ft Overland, Land Yacht.

Jim, our 66 Overlander is a "Land Yacht" which I assume was a top of the
line model. The interior is all black walnut or american walnut. And what
impresses me is the fact that the walnut plywood is trimed with solid walnut
edging. At any rate the color of the wood is wonderful and adds greatly to
the ambiance. The 62 Gloge Trotter on the other hand has much less wood and
was a very light oak interior. The roof and ends are all painted the same
color top to bottom, while the Overlander is somewhat two tone with an
extruded aluminum strip half way up the walls. The Overlander has an
electric water pump system while the GT is presurized only. At any rate
your question is one I have tossed around also..I would like to learn more
on the history of Airstream names also. Thanks, GAS

Hey R.J.
I've been off the list for a while but back reading and learning and working
on the "58" Overlander. Question? I am installing a Fantastic Fan in the rear
vent. I found a 110 AC wire run to it. Did they anticipate the installation of an
air conditioner in that early model? There is a fan in the rear bath that is 110
ac but does not draw much air. I think I read somewhere that the early models were
not structurally sound enough for a overhead air conditioner. Any info from anyone
will be appreciated.

I find that printed matter generally is perfectly legible scanned at 72
to 100 pixels per inch. The video screen typically is 72 per inch as a
comparison. While its not PDF, I tend to scan in color (even for black
and white text) to .JPG because it compresses better than most video
compressors. Just changing to 100 pixels per inch scan instead of 300
would cut the size by a factor of 9. Going to 72 would cut by a factor
of 16 from scanning at 300 pixels per inch. Look at your results at the
scan density you pick to be sure its still all legible when displayed at
the original size. It is possible to begin to loose essential details of
characters and diagrams when you use too few pixels per inch in the
scan.

Are you sure that's after converting to PDF? When I did the M52
manual, it was 101 MB as a image file (50 pages), but after converting to
PDF, it was 2.46 MB.
Note that I used a freeware method of producing pdf files- not
Adobe Acrobat.

As I understand it the recall only affects Goodyear Marathons and only those
with load rating D.

Where are you guys now? Still in Texas?

Hello All,
I just completed removing the insulation on the walls to get to the wood
screws that hold the wall channels to the floor. Yep there they are and easy
to remove and right next to them are BOLTS WITH NUTS! Any one tell me if
these are going through the frame or just through the wood. They come up from
below and the nuts are in the channel. I feel a Sawsall attack coming on.

Also after overwhelming response to my insulation replacement question I will
look for a backed fiberglass type thanks for the input.

If you can't get the nuts to come off while holding the bolts with
vicegrips, I prefer to use a 3" cutoff wheel in an air die grinder, or a
specially made cutoff tool (has better guarding). That cuts the bolts
with less chance of slipping and sawing a hole in the skin that the
sawzall might easily do.
