I am also supporting the idea of selectable alternates. if the whole request is
too complicated to implement, at the minimum, just making the alternates
selectable and frozen instead of automatically selectable and keep changing,
will be a great enhancement. As was suggested, the default behavior can remain
the same (so not to have negative impact on anyone) but once the user selects
an alternate it will remain frozen. Perhaps the original request can be broken
down to multiple enhancements to increase the chance that the easiest one will
be implemented in the up coming release?
