That is a near-death experience, similar to those where people get 
incredible adrenaline rush and do superhuman things do to the 
stress/excitement/fear/explosion of the moment. It is also similar to 
being in the zone when doing an intense exercise. 

However, there are books about near-death experiences that you might 
want to read. 

I think that all of those types of moments are some kind of 
enlightenment. Perhaps due to adrenalin rush, or endorphins, seratonin 
in the brain, or who knows.
