[SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin for multiple libraries directories

2008-08-08 Thread patatorz

Hello,

I have 2 NAS (DS207+ DS508). SqueezeCenter 7.1 is running on the 207+
because SSODS has not yet been released on the 508.
I have a huge lossless library on the 508 that I'm not able to read at
the moment via the squeezecenter.
I would like to know if there is any plugin or trick to tell
squeezecenter on the DS207+ to access a library (there's a MP3 library
also on the 207+) on the 508 knowing that the 508 has a fixed IP (like
the 207+).

Thanks for your help

Best regards

Patatorz

Mount the 508's share on your 207 and put a symlink to that mount point in
the 207's main music folder.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin for multiple libraries directories

2008-08-08 Thread erland

I think this is up to the NAS.

Do you know if it is possible to mount network disks on the NAS ?
If this is possible, you just need to mount the MP3 directory from the
DS508 somewhere in the DS207 filesystem. When the directory is mounted,
you just create a softlink from somewhere inside your music folder on
the DS207 and point it to the mounted directory from the DS508.

Howere, doesn't the DS508 support uPnP ? If it does I suspect it will
also be accessible in a separate uPnP browse menu in the SqueezeCenter
web interface. I think it should be visible in the home page of the
SqueezeCenter web interface. At least this is what have happened in my
SqueezeCenter when I also have uPnP devices on the network.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Request : Plugin Multiband Equalisation

2008-08-08 Thread BigTony

After a nasty bout of sinus trouble, I now have a real sensitivity to
sibilance in the 4-6khz range. On my PC I have run an multiband eq, and
by dropping 6db across this range I can hear my music without whincing.
Unfortunatly I have no EQ on my amp (I use audessessy EQ - and I can't
change anything - if I turn Aud. off then all the room eq is lost and
it gets even worse) Beside Aud., manual EQ is 3 band - hance pretty
much useless.
So my request for a multiband EQ for use with SC/SB3. I know the Inguz
calibration has limited EQ, so that started me thinking that it must be
doable - anyone out there with soemthing that can do this?

Cheers

[SlimDevices: Plugins] multi library plugin. 1 genre switch off...

2008-08-08 Thread boomdijk

Hi,

I have a simple problem that needs fixing, but i don't seem to get it
working.

This is it:

I want 1 genre to only show up om my slimp3 player in my bedroom and
not to show in my living room duet. So i have 43 genres in my bedroom
and 42 in my living room.

I followed the setup for kids room
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_kids_room_SqueezeBox), but
somehow the radioplay genre keeps showing up in the livingroom.

And for good measure some questions concerning this topic:

Is there a simple way of getting this done?
Do i have to restart the service after every change in the settings?
Do i have to do a rescan of the library after every change?
Is there a userguide of all the settings of the multilibrary plugin?

I hope there is someone who can help... Thanks in advance!

Johan

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-08-08 Thread MattC

hi bpa,

forgot to say a big thank-you in my previous post for all your hard
work on AlienBBC, and also thanks for your speedy response to my
post

bpa;327244 Wrote:
I think this is one instance and not an indication that BBC is treating
 RealAudio as 2nd Class service.

in some ways maybe, but from using the iPlayer in my browser, they seem
to be treating RealAudio as the Dial-Up Modem option, so presumably if
the MP3 is higher bandwidth it should be higher quality, which would be
nice?

bpa;327244 Wrote:

this seems a bit odd in one way, in as much as if they are happy to
deliver the RealAudio stream anywhere geographically, that implies they
are happy to let the actual programme content be delivered anywhere
geographically, so why not let the MP3 stream be delivered anywhere?

bpa;327244 Wrote:

(if I had the ability) the incentive to me would be to reverse engineer
it for the potential quality improvement and choice where there are
issues like the one I experienced where I couldn't actually hear what
I wanted to. incidentally that was the first programme I tried after
we'd listened again to the Archers, so pretty bad luck ;-(

bpa;327244 Wrote:

Given the restrictions and the breaches in terms of use, I feel a
solution cannot be provided publicly and so it is not worthwhile
 persuing this approach.

As BBC says RealAudio will still be provided - AlienBBC will have to
 stay with this format.

I understand totally what you're saying, but am really frustrated that
the BBC could not have architected this in a more open way for those
who don't wish to use a browser based plugin to listen to their
content.

thanks again

so why not let the MP3 stream be delivered anywhere?

Better quality streams such as MP3 require higher bandwidth or the
sharing technology currently used by iPlayer video. Higher bandwidth
means higher costs.

The BBC is funded by UK public through the TV licence. My understanding
is that the last review of the BBC by a UK Parliamentary committee
mandated that any improvements of services were to be delivered to the
users who paid for the service (i.e. UK only) and not as a freebie to
the whole world.

If you mean that you like to be able to browse them individually in
Artists/Albums/Genres menus, that isn't possible in standard
SqueezeCenter, the exception is of course the Music Folder menu.
SqueezeCenter currently don't have any multi library concept, it is
currently planned for the 7.3 release.

If you like to be able to browse artists/albums in the lossless music
individually from the lossy compressed music, you will currently have
to rely on either multiple SqueezeCenter instances (which probably
isn't reasonable on DSxxx boxes) or on the Multi Library plugin
together with the Custom Browse plugin (which I'm not sure how good
they work on DSxxx boxes).

 1. If user is not UK based - a UK proxy to handle a subset of bbc.co.uk

 2. A copy of mozilla plugin for Flashplayer for your platform
 3. A mozilla Plugin wrapper which can be used to set up stream decode
and direct to a false audio output which can be captured. Currently the
only wrapper (NSPLUGINWRAPPER) that could work is only available on
Linux using ALSA. This will violate Adobe terms of use.

thinking about this, perhaps we should ask the bbc really nicely if
they could provide some pre-compiled binary command-line programs for
the common platforms that take an iplayer URL as an argument and then
chuck the audio stream to stdout so we could call this binary instead
of mplayer and life would be good (provided you're in the UK)?

No - that error usually signifies either a missing file, a typo in an
opml file or an syntax error in one of the Addon files.

The main possibility is an Addon file has been deleted/ corrupted. If
the problem is local to a submenu or a single menu optopn You have used
a bit of untested code in which case please hive detail of the
submenu/menu/program option chosen

Another possibility is a network timeout - try increasing
Settings/Advanced/Radio Station Timeout to 30 or 45.

Asking the BBC to make sure it works on
* Windows Vista/XP on any x86 processor (VIA, AMD, Intel)
* OSX 10.3.x 10.4.x on PPC and Intel
* Available for Debian, Ubuntu, REdhat, Suse etc. disto on x86
procesors PPC
* on PPC processor on NAS Linux kernel 2.6. Glib (I forget)
* on ARM processors for NAS Linux kernels 2.4/2.6 Glibc

I don't think so - even for the 3 main groups.

The whole point of using Flashplayer was that Adobe takes away all that
pain from BBC (especially Linux which BBC got such flak for iPlayer 1.0)
and Adobe gets loaded onto user PCs.

The possibility AAC+ stream may offer hope if it is not secure but
Flashplayer streaming audio supports two formats MP3 and AAC+ so I am
bit wary. However a 64kbit/sec AAC+ stream is touted as being high
quality so same bandwdith costs as RealAudio but better quality audio.

From Orban site - to be taken with a pinch of salt

aacPlus is an audio codec developed by Coding Technologies which
delivers high-quality 5.1 multichannel audio at 128 kbps, near
CD-quality stereo at 32 kbps, and FM quality stereo at 24 kbps.

I'll have here a similar problem with the installation. But I think my

Maybe this is also the problem of the other guys...

Just for an example, if I try to run seral comands 'by hand'

Abort
freenas:/usr/local/bin# ./alac

ELF interpreter /libexec/ld-elf32.so.1 not found
Abort
freenas:/usr/local/bin# ./mac
ELF interpreter /libexec/ld-elf32.so.1 not found

etc... This was done with FreeNAS 0.7 (rev 3513) and SlimNAS 1.0.1.
SlimNAS 1.1.1 also didn't work.

From a previous SlimNAS-Installation I know that this works like a
charm! And I'd like THANK YOU for your hard work, Michael!

I'm looking forward to see a 64Bit Version of SlimNAS ;-)

somehow the radioplay genre keeps showing up in the livingroom.

And for good measure some questions concerning this topic:

Is there a simple way of getting this done?

Basically what you need to do is:
- Setup two libraries, one for the bedroom with only the single genre
included, one for the living room with the 42 genres included.

After you have setup the libraries, you should get a Libraries menu
under Music Library/Custom Browse. Check that each library contains
the music files you like.

The rest is about moving around menus and creating playlists to get the
browse menus and dynamic playlists you like. Just ask specific questions
if you don't get something to work.

If you are using a Squeezebox Duet I think you might get into problem,
because the Custom Browse/Multi Library plugins currently don't fully
support player specific menus on the Controller remote control.

boomdijk;327315 Wrote:

Do i have to restart the service after every change in the settings?

You will have to restart after installing the plugins, you will also
have to restart when you move menus to the top level. Besides that, you
shouldn't have to restart, unless you have found a bug.

boomdijk;327315 Wrote:

Do i have to do a rescan of the library after every change?

No, not unless you have changed the tags in your music files or
moved/renamed the music files.

boomdijk;327315 Wrote:

Is there a userguide of all the settings of the multilibrary plugin?

This one is the only one that exists, it links to a number of
tutorials:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Multi_Library_plugin

Just ask if you wonder what a specific parameter means.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-08-08 Thread bpa

About a year ago NPR changed over from RealAudio to Flash and I went
through the same hoops and looked at the RTMP/RTMPT/RTMPS protocols.
Looking at the BBC protocol exchanges I got the feeling it wasn't quite
the same.

Anyway nothing can be done at the moment - I can hook in an existing
player but I won't be writing one.

Regarding AAC+ - again why waste more energy speculating. If it is
plain AAC+ there is already a SC solution. If is secure in some way
- there is no ready solution.

We just have to wait and see what happens later this year.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.1 Update deleted all plugins on OS X

2008-08-08 Thread Nikhil

Updated to 7.1 from 7.0 on Mac OS X (10.4.11) PPC a couple of days ago.
Noticed that all my plugins were deleted. Is this expected behaviour?
Or did something go wrong on my system? Fortunately I had a feeling
that this might happen, so I was able to restore from a backup made
just a couple of hours before.

I was thinking that this might be because the copy behavior on a mac is
different from windows? If you copy a folder to a location that has a
folder with the same name, then on macs the entire old folder with all
its contents gets replaced, unlike windows where it is essentially a
merge, and only contents that have exactly the same name get replaced.

We touched upon this in a couple of earlier threads, but I don't recall
any conclusion.

I do. I don't see these delays. This is all well below 1s for me.
Again: please tell me exactly what you do?
Do you talk about load times for NowPlaying? From where? What is the
page that loads when you press skip? For me there is no page that
loads then, it just skips.
What is the reaction you see when you do volume changes? Change volume
up and down and tell me how long the delay is between the movement of
the control handler and the actual change in volume, is that also 5-7s?

Yes, I've noticed that.. Seems to be a server/CLI bug as the bit in the brackets
is just a string (totaltime) returned via the rescanprogress CLI.

Looking at the code in Queries.pm:
# report it
my $hrs  = int($total_time / 3600);
my $mins = int(($total_time - $hrs * 60)/60);
my $sec  = $total_time - 3600 * $hrs - 60 * $mins;
$request-addResult('totaltime', sprintf(%02d:%02d:%02d, $hrs,
$mins, $sec));

Could be an operator precedence thing, ie:
my $mins = int(($total_time - ($hrs * 60))/60);
my $sec  = $total_time - ((3600 * $hrs) + (60 * $mins));

?

My experience is the same as Pippin's - plugins always get wiped.

Look on the status page of SC - there it lists all the folder that SC
checks for plugins. As Pippin, says some plugins do not work in all
folders (this was the case for LazySearch and iPeng IIRC).

Currently I copy all my plugins into the folder recommended by iPeng.
Not sure if is the right folder (as plugins get wiped out by new
installs), but everything works and it's quick to copy my plugins after
the end of the install.

problems, so i am not sure it is the CD-rom drive or cd's.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC terrible stuttering

2008-08-08 Thread bpa

Looks like a typo the -x should be $-x$ I think - that would have sorted
the problem automatically.

To play Flac you need a sustained throughput at about 1500kbps -
anything less and the internal SB buffer will slowly empty as you
playing data at a faster rate than it is being received. As a result
you will get stutters as SB has to stop playing and top-up its buffer.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin idea: Per-player volume normalization (DRC)

2008-08-08 Thread CatBus

NOTICE: I'm a lazy non-contributing person and I hope someone sees this
post and runs with the idea.

I've just discovered that sox can be used to compress the dynamic range
of audio (a.k.a. volume normalization) like so:

sox input.flac output.flac compand 0.3,1 6:-70,-60,-20 -5 -90 0.2

This is very useful for a car and other non-ideal listening
environments, where environmental noise can drown out quiet passages.
I was thinking it might also be good for the Squeezebox Boom (official
or homebrew), being used out by the pool or barbeque, and maybe even
for an SB3 mounted in a noisy kitchen.

However, the key thing is that the utility of this feature would be
very specific to a player's location. Right now, by modifying the
config file for format conversion, you could probably set SlimServer to
do this right now for all of your music pretty easily. But you don't
(or shouldn't) want to do this for the Transporter in your living room,
just the SB3 you keep by the wood chipper.

So I was thinking that it might be neat to have a plugin that allowed
conditional player-specific server-side conversion of music, maybe
similar to the room correction/EQ plugin, but basically appears as a
simple checkbox in the UI: Normalize volume for this player.

I think you can ignore those errors at the moment, it feels like the
problem is somewhere else.

From the log it looks like the TrackStat queries towards the database
are extremely slow.

What hardware are you running SqueezeCenter on ? Is this a standard
computer with resonable amount of RAM or a NAS box ?

How large is your library (how many songs) ?

Is SqueezeCenter configured to transcode the music to another format
than the original music file format ? For example, does this problem
only occur when you have set the bitrate limit configuration ?

Is it possible for you to temporary install the Database Query plugin
and post the result of Extras/Database Query/TrackStat Statistics ?
There is a risk it is really slow if that query is as slow as the
normal queries, but it's worth a try to get a feeling if something is
corrupt in the TrackStat data tables.

I thought I'd post a version that is ready to go for SC 7.*. The only
other change is that the defending champ is now shown with the carat

asterisk to denote an amateur. I'd rather use the asterisk but thought
it might cause confusion. No big deal either way probably. :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] 'Failed' message on Controller with any Trackstat playlist

2008-08-08 Thread pg5555

I have a Squeezebox Duet (running SqueezeCenter 7.1 on WinXP with 2GB of
RAM) and I've just installed for the first time the Trackstat 2.2.1 and
Dynamic Playlist 2.3 plugins. To get started I've given 5-star ratings
to 20 or so of my 18,000 songs. The Dynamic Playlists section of the
SqueezeCenter UI displays and plays Songs rated 5 perfectly, but on
the Controller when I hit Play for that or any other dynamic Trackstat
playlist, a pop-up box just says Failed.

Is there anything else I can try, or is this a bug?

I'm fairly new to the Squeezebox so if there is further information
that I should provide here, please let me know. I searched the SC
logfile but found nothing that looked relevant.

Many thanks to Erland for Trackstat which looks like it will be a very
useful plugin, particularly for rating my tracks and for playing random
mixes of my favourites.
