The warmest thoughts we ever send
Are those that go from friend to friend.

The happiest wishes we ever make
Are the wishes made for friendship's sake.

The loveliest memories that we know were made
With good friends long ago.

The brightest tomorrows yet to be,
We'll find in friendship's company.

Hello, Steve, I love this one. Thanks for sharing.

 Cute Dog Story
An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard.
I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had

a home and was well taken care of.

 He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head;
he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the
hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out..

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard,

walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall

and again slept for about an hour.

This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar:

'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is

and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon

your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his
 collar:

'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 -

he's trying to catch up on his sleep.

Can I come with him tomorrow?'

  The Dearest Friend!

I have a Friend in Jesus,

  He's ever walking near

  To share my every burden

  And take away my fear.

It's in His precious name I pray

  To our God above;

  It's through His sacred teachings

that I learned the way to love.

God did not put me on this earth

  To walk life's path alone;

He sent His Son to be my Guide,

  The dearest Friend I've known.

No other One could be so true,

  He bore the cross for me;

Because He died for my sins

  I must ever faithful be.

If you are lonely on life's way

And feel that no one cares,

You have a Friend in Jesus

If you will kneel in prayer.

Why things happen as they do
We do not always know,
And we cannot always fathom,
Why our spirits sink so low...

We flounder in our dark distress,
We are wavering and unstable,
But when we're most inadequate
The Lord God is always able

For though we are incapable,
God is powerful and great,
And there's no darkness of the mind
That God can't penetrate

And all that is required of us
Whenever things go wrong
Is to trust in God implicitly
With a faith that's deep and strong.

And while He may not instantly
Unravel all the strands
Of the tangled thoughts that trouble us
He completely understands

And in His time, if we have faith
He will gradually restore
The brightness to our spirit
That we've been longing for

So remember, there's no cloud too dark
For God's light to penetrate
If we keep on believing
And have faith enough to wait!

A single candle can illuminate an entire room. A true friend lights up
an entire lifetime. Thanks for the bright lights of your friendship.

HOW TO GET RID OF CRICKETS

Crickets can cause damage and a lot of inconvenience, especially if you
 have
just bought new clothes or if you have just had your furniture repaired or
 replaced.

Getting rid of crickets in your home is quite easy. There are several
products on the market that aid in getting rid of these pests. The most
effective and preferred ways of eradicating crickets in homes is the use
 of
poisons or baits. There are also homemade solutions that are easy to do
 and
are effective. Here are some of the common ways to get rid of them.

a.. Bug Spray and Other Chemicals - The majority of bug sprays on the
market are capable of killing crickets. There are also chemicals
specifically made for crickets. These products are usually in liquid form.
Spray or apply these chemicals in places where you hear or see cricket
infestation. These chemicals are also dangerous to humans, so make sure
 you
read the instructions before using any of them.
b.. Cricket Bait - This is a more passive approach for getting rid of
crickets. Simply leave the bait in places where there are crickets.
 Cricket
bait is only for crickets, so make sure your pets or your children do not
pick them up and eat them. If you are concerned with toxic chemicals, then
you can make a homemade solution. Just half-fill a glass jar with molasses
and place it near cricket-infested spots. Crickets are attracted to the
smell of molasses so they jump in, only to drown in it. If you use this
 one
method, make sure you clean it regularly. Dead crickets don't make good
 decorations.
c.. Cricket Traps - Cricket traps are best used outside the house to
prevent them from coming in. They can be placed near windows and doors, or
in those small crevices where crickets can sneak in.
d.. Pest Control - If cricket infestation gets too out of hand or you are
just too lazy to do any cricket hunting, then call in the pros to do the
 job
 for you.

Before using any of these methods, a little research won't hurt. Search
 the
Internet to determine which of these methods is best for your situation.
Also, make sure that you do some regular general cleaning in your house.
This can help you determine if you already have cricket infestations in
 your
home before they start eating through your stuff.

 Cricket-Proofing Your Home

No matter how hard you try or how expensive the chemicals you use, if your
home can easily be infested by these pests, your efforts will be
 worthless.
To make sure that no brave cricket finds its way into your home and into
your closets, you must make your home cricket-proof - this means blocking
off every entry point in your home that may be used by these uninvited
 guests.

Start by sealing cracks and crevices along walls, doors, windows, and air
vents. If you can't seal off the opening, then cover the area with a
 screen,
cloth, or any material that a cricket can't pass through.

Crickets love vegetation. If you have a lot of plants around your house,
keep them trimmed and under control. Also, make sure plants and grasses
 are
at least a meter away from the walls of your house. Crickets love to
 gather
near walls where foliage is abundant. Soon, they may eat through your
 home's
 walls and make it inside.

Debris and other junk must also go. If you have a lot of it in your garage
or in your garden, you need to discard it as soon as possible. You don't
want these crickets building a nest anywhere near your home, so see to it
your garbage bins are covered or sealed.

Make sure you also check your drains and roof gutters. Debris often
 gathers
in those spots and is often left unchecked, making it an ideal nest for
crickets. Regular cleaning and inspection will get rid of both crickets
 and
the thousands of eggs laid there.

If you have bright lights outside your house, you may want to replace them
with low light or bug bulbs. Crickets are attracted to bright lighting
 at
night, so having them on is like holding a sign that reads: Crickets are
welcome here. A trip to your local hardware shop to buy these low-light
bulbs will save you the worries of attracting hordes of crickets to your
home. Low-light bulbs emit a yellowish glow and are inexpensive. If you
 can't
find them, then keep your bright lights off

   Abbot Costello

If you remember them you will especially like it.

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to
REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who
sometimes

get flustered by our computers, please read on...

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch,
'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about
buying a computer.

  ABBOTT: Mac?

  COSTELLO: No , the name's Lou .

  ABBOTT : Your computer?

  COSTELLO : I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

  ABBOTT : Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou .

  ABBOTT : What about Windows?

COSTELLO : Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT : Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO : I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

  ABBOTT : Wallpaper.

COSTELLO : Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

  ABBOTT : Software for Windows?

COSTELLO : No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write
proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT : I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO : I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm
sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

  ABBOTT : Word.

  COSTELLO : What word?

  ABBOTT : Word in Office.

COSTELLO : The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT : The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO : Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT : The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.

COSTELLO : I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some
straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can
track

  my money with?

  ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO : That's right. What do you have?

  ABBOTT : Money.

COSTELLO : I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT : It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO : What's bundled with my computer?

  ABBOTT : Money.

COSTELLO : Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT : Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO : I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

  ABBOTT : One copy.

COSTELLO : Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT : Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO : They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT : Why not? THEY OWN IT!

  (A few days later)

ABBOTT : Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO : How do I turn my computer off?

  ABBOTT : Click on 'START'.

Where there is doubt, I hoped I showed you words of faith.

  Drop A Pebble

Drop a pebble in the water,

  Just a splash, and it's gone;

But there's half a hundred ripples,

Circling on and on and on.

  Spreading, spreading from the center,

  Flowing on out to sea.

And there is no way of telling,

Where the end is going to be.

  Drop a pebble in the water;

In a minute you will forget,

  But there's little waves a-flowing,

  And there's ripples circling yet.

  And those little waves a-flowing,

  To a great big wave have grown;

  You've disturbed a mighty river,

Just by dropping in a stone.

Drop an unkind word, or careless:

  In a minute it is gone;

But there's half a hundred ripples,

Circling on and on and on.

  They keep spreading, spreading, spreading,

From the center as they go,

And there is no way to stop them,

  Once you've started the flow.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness:

  Just a flash and it is gone;

But there is half a hundred ripples,

Circling on and on and on.

Bearing hope and joy and comfort,

  On each splashing, dashing wave,

Till you wouldn't believe the volume,

Of the one kind word you gave.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness:

  In a minute you will forget;

But there's gladness still a swelling,

  And there's joy circling yet.

And you've rolled a wave of comfort,

Whose sweet music can be heard,

Over miles and miles of water,

Just by dropping one kind word.

A single candle can illuminate an entire room. A true friend lights up
an entire lifetime. Thanks for the bright lights of your friendship.

  Hi there all,
a friend gave this to me so thought i'd send it on.

  Dear Lord,
  Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
  This tiny little Prayer
  Keeps running through my head:
  God bless all my family
  Wherever they may be,
  Keep them warm
  and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing
  I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
  Please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual
  To Bless a motherboard,
  But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box
  Holds more than odds and ends;
  Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.
I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me in to where they live.
By faith is how I know them
  Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.
  Please take an extra minute
  From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.
Wherever else this prayer may reach
  To each and every friend,
  Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'..

  Kay

[RecipesAndMore] Many Uses For Coffee Filters

2008-12-09 Thread juana

Coffee Filters

CHECK this one out, I DID NOT KNOW THIS STUFF.but I do NOW!! Coffee
Filters are not just for making Coffee

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make
excellent covers.
2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave
windows sparkling.
3. Protect China . Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter
between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine
bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to
absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a
coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a
kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a
coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a
coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows?? Use strips of
coffee filters.
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, french fries, chicken
fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make Great Razor Nick fixers.

saying almost anything but cranberry anything, mincemeat pie and
probably others but can't think of right now.

Cake In A Mug

I just tried this and it is absolutely awesome!!!

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons of self-rising flour
4 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of Cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons of milk
3 tablespoons of oil
1 small splash of Vanilla flavoring
3 tablespoons of Chocolate Chips (optional)

Note: I did not use the Chocolate Chips.

Note: I used a 14 ounce mug.

Preparation:

1. Add dry ingredients to mug and stir well.
2. Add the egg and mix again.
3. Pour in milk and oil and mix well.
4. Place mug in microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high.
5. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but no problem with that.
6. When cake has cooled a little, run a knife around the edge to break it
loose from the mug.
7. Dump out onto a plate and Dig In.

[RecipesAndMore] Slow Cooked Bread Pudding

2008-08-26 Thread juana
Slow Cooked Bread Pudding

4 cups French bread cubes, toasted
2 1/2 cups milk, scalded, cooled slightly
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
dash salt
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup raisins, optional
dessert sauce or whipped cream for garnish

Lightly butter the slow cooker then add bread cubes. In a small bowl, whisk
together the scalded milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, vanilla, and
melted butter. Pour milk mixture over the bread cubes then add raisins, if
desired. Gently, using a large spoon or spatula, press bread cubes down into
mixture so all bread pieces will soak up milk mixture. Do not stir. Cover and
cook on LOW setting for 5 to 6 hours, until bread pudding is set. Serve with a
dessert sauce or whipped cream.

Other fruit can be used as well if you wish. And to change taste use a
different extract such as orange or rum.
*Version2
Crockpot Bread Pudding

2 cups scalded milk
2 cups dried or stale bread pieces any kind
2 eggs beaten slightly
1/3 cup sugar white or brown your choice can use sugar substitute
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinimon
1 cup raisins or other chopped dry fruit optional
1 teaspoon vinilla

Combine everything except bread in crockpot. Stir to blend well then add the
bread stir gently until bread soaks up liquid. Cover and cook on low 4 hours.
High 2 hours but do not peek leave the lid on until time is up.

If you wish to make in the oven mix everything and pour into lightly buttered
glass baking dish and bake covered 15 minutes at 325 degrees.

Nutmeg sauce for bread pudding

2/3 cups sugar
1 1/4 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 1/2 tablespoons shortning
1/8 teaspoon salt

bring water to a boil in small sauce pan. Add shortning
stir so it melts then add everything else stirring constantly so it blends well.
Continue to boil until sauce thickens about 5 minutes. Spoon over servings of
bread pudding.

Another way to make bread pudding in the crockpot uses a metal trivet and baking
dish of glass which fits into the crockpot easily.

You pour your bread pudding mixture into the lightly greased glass dish and
place it on the trivet in the crockpot. Pour 1/2 cup of hot water into the
crockpot around the trivet so it covers the bottom of crockpot totally add more
water if necessary to reach this point. Then put on lid and cook for time
mentioned above.

 Subject: A redneck love poem

Susie Lee done fell in love,

 She planned to marry Joe.

She was so happy 'bout it all,

 She told her Pappy so.

 Pappy told her, Susie gal,

 You'll have to find another.

I'd just as soon yo' ma don't know,

But Joe is yo' half brother.

So Susie put aside her Joe

 And planned to marry Will.

 But after telling Pappy this,

 He said, There's trouble still.

You can't marry Will, my gal,

And please don't tell yo' mother.

But Will and Joe and several mo'

I know is yo' half brother.

But Mama knew and said, my child,

Just do what makes yo' happy.

 Marry Will or marry Joe,

You ain't no kin to Pappy.

Kind of brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

  HOW TO REALLY LIVE
  1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the
ultimate anti-depressant.
  2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.
  3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My
purpose is to __ today.'
  4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is
manufactured in plants.
  5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon,
broccoli , almonds walnuts.
  6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
  7. Don't waste your precious energy on energy vampires, issues of the past,
negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy
in the positive pr esent moment.
  8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college
kid with a maxed out charge card.
  9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
  10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
  11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
  12. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
  13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
  14. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey
is all about.
  15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will
this matter?'
  17. Forgive everyone for everything.
  18. What other people think of you is none of your business.
  19. GOD heals everything.
  20. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
  21. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.
Stay in touch!!!
  22. Envy is a waste of time. You already y have all you need.
  23. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am
thankful for ___. Today I accomplished ___.
  24. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
  25. Please send this to everyone you care about..

Can you answer this riddle?
Here is a pretty neat little thing from Paul Harvey. See if you can
guess the riddle at the end.
Paul Harvey Writes:
We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them
worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and
homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn
honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your
old dog put to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister.
And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the
room,but when
he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I
hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to
tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that
you live in a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your
driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with
someone as uncool
as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one
instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and
subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush
on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn
what ivory soap
tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove
and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it..
And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is
not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa
and go fishing with your Uncle.
May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your
neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at
Hannukah/Christmas time
when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard
work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.
Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die
before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.
Send this to all of your friends. We secure our friends, not by
accepting favors, but by doing them.
Paul Harvey RIDDLE:
When asked this riddle, 80% of kindergarten kids got the answer,
compared to 17% of Stanford University seniors.
What is greater than God, More evil than the devil, The poor have it,
The rich need it, And if you eat it, you'll die?
Send this to 10 people and then press shift and you will get the answer.
P.S. You won't believe this, but this will give you the answer to the
riddle. Send this to others and then press shift, after you send. Once
you press your
shift key, you will understand the riddle

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let y'all know about a wonderful thing that is happening for
Noah! I don't know how many of y'all or your kids like stuffed animals but here
is a wonderful way to get one and help Noah at the same time! :) We receive 15
% of each order to The Noah's Ark Workshop! There prices are very good. Please
see below! :) Thanks for your time!!! :)

Need a Gift for someone? Want to help Noah and get a gift at the same time?
Here is your answer! Purchase a Stuff Your Own Animal Kit from Noah's Ark
Animal Workshop by visiting the Shop link at http://www.partiesbyjade.com Each
animal kit comes with everything you need to make your own cuddly friend. You
will receive an animal of your choice, stuffing, a rainbow star and a birth
certificate. Kids love to stuff their own friend! The animal kits range in
price from $13-$18 and there are many kinds of animals to choose from! Start
your Christmas shopping early! The kits ship for $4.95. There are also outfits,
sounds chips and accessories that can be purchased as well. I saw hat for $2
and some shirts for $3 on the site! 15% of each online purchase will be donated
to our fund to help bring Noah home. Please be sure to place the word Noah in
the Customer Comment section at checkout so that we can receive credit for your

Twenty Wonderful Thoughts

1. If you feel far away from God,

guess who moved?

2. Fear knocked. Faith answered.

No one was there.

3. What you are is God's gift to you.

What you become is your gift to God.

4. I am God's melody of life and He sings His song

through me.

5. We can never really go where God is not,

and where He is, all is well.

6. No matter what is happening in your life,

know that God is waiting for you with open arms.

7. God promises a safe landing,

not a calm passage.

8. Do your best and then sleep in peace

God is awake.

9. God has a purpose and plan for me

that no one else can fulfill.

10. The will of God will never take you to

where the grace of God will not protect you.

11. We are responsible for the effort ,

not the outcome.

12. We set the sail; God makes the wind.

13. Begin to weave and God will give you the thread.

14. Sometimes when God says no, it's because He

has something better in store for you.

15. The task ahead of us is never as great

as the power behind us.

16. Prayer: don't bother to give God instructions,

just report for duty.

17. It's my business to do God's business and

it's His business to take care of my business.

18. Serenity is not freedom from the storm,

but peace amid the storm.

19. How come you're always running around

looking for God? He's not lost.

20. God put me on earth to accomplish a number

of things; right now I'm so far behind I will

live forever.

  Thinking of You

Boy, life can really get hectic sometimes.

Time seems to stop for no one.

You know what they say... All work and no play.

Sometimes I just want to get away from it all.

  Away from this rat race.

It kind brings me down at times.

But I know just the thing that will perk me up!

All I have to do is close my eyes...

  ...and picture your warm smile.

It sure brightens up my day!

  Thanks for being YOU!

  FOR THE BEST PERSON

  IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

COCOA MULCH FOR THE GARDEN IS POISONOUS TO DOGS

Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa
Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled
and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog
Calypso, decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured
a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats
something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom
woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Half way through the
walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further
investigation on the companies web site, this product is HIGHLY toxic to
  dogs.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is
true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch
can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each
indivi dual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.

  Subject: [RecipesAndMore] CARL'S GARDEN

  CARL'S GARDEN

Carl was a quiet man. He didn't talk much. He would always greet you with a
big smile and a firm handshake.

Even after living in our neighborhood for over 50 years, no one could really
say they knew him very well.

Before his retirement, he took the bus to work each morning. The lone sight
of him walking down the street often worried us.

He had a slight limp from a bullet wound received in W.WII. Watching him, we
worried that, although he had survived W.W.II, he may not make it through our
changing uptown neighborhood with its ever- increasing random violence, gangs
and drug activity.

When he saw the flyer at our local church asking for volunteers for caring
for the gardens behind the minister's residence, he responded in his
characteristically unassuming manner. Without fanfare, he just signed up.

He was well into his 87th year when the very thing we had always feared
finally happened.

He was just finishing his watering for the day when three gang members
approached him. Ignoring their attempt to intimidate him, he simply asked,
Would you like a drink from the hose?

The tallest and toughest-looking of the three said, Yeah, sure, with a
malevolent little smile.

As Carl offered the hose to him, the other two grabbed Carl's arm, throwing
him down.

As the hose snaked crazily over the ground, dousing everything in its way,
Carl's assailants stole his retirement watch and his wallet, and then fled.

Carl tried to get himself up, but he had been thrown down on his bad leg. He
lay there trying to gather himself as the minister came running to help him.

Although the minister had witnessed the attack from his window, he couldn't
get there fast enough to stop it. Carl, are you okay? Are you hurt? the
minister kept asking, as he helped Carl to his feet.

Carl just passed a hand over his brow and sighed, shaking his head.

Just some punk kids. I hope they'll wise-up someday. His wet clothes clung
to his slight frame as he bent to pick up the hose. He adjusted the nozzle
again and started to water.

Confused and a little concerned, the minister asked, Carl, what are you
doing?

I've got to finish my watering. It's been very dry lately, came the calm
reply.

Satisfying himself that Carl really was all right, the minister could only
marvel.

Carl was a man from a different time and place.

A few weeks later, the three returned. Just as before, their threat was
unchallenged. Carl again offered them a drink from his hose.

This time they didn't rob him. They wrenched the hose from his hand and
drenched him head to foot in the icy water.

When they had finished their humiliation of him, they sauntered off down the
street, throwing catcalls and curses, falling over one another laughing at the
hilarity of what they had just done.

Carl just watched them. Then he turned toward the warmth giving sun, picked
up his hose, and went on with his watering.

The summer was quickly fading into fall Carl was doing some tilling when he
was startled by the sudden approach of someone behind him He stumbled and fell
into some evergreen branches.

As he struggled to regain his footing, he turned to see the tall leader of
his summer tormentors, reaching down for him. He braced himself for the
expected attack.

Don't worry old man, I'm not gonna hurt you this time. The young man spoke
softly, still offering the tattooed and scarred hand to Carl. As he helped Carl
get up, the man pulled a crumpled bag from his pocket and handed it to Carl.

  What's this? Carl asked.

It's your stuff, the man explained. It's your stuff back. Even the money
in your wallet.

I don't understand, Carl said. Why would you help me now?

The man shifted his feet, seeming embarrassed and ill at ease. I learned
something from you, he said. I ran with that gang and hurt people like you.
We picked you because you were old, and we knew we could do it. But every time
we came and did something to you, instead of yelling and fighting back, you
tried to give us a drink. You didn't hate us for hating you. You kept showing
love against our hate. He stopped for a moment.

I couldn't sleep after we stole your stuff, so here it is back. He paused
for another awkward moment, not knowing what more there was to say. That bag's
my way of saying thanks for straightening me out, I guess. And with that, he
walked off down the street.

Carl looked down at the sack in his hands and gingerly opened it. He took out
his retirement watch and put

 Hi Folks,

It's nice to be on this list finally. Thank you Delma for helping me
get here! You're such a sweetie! And speaking of sweeties, a special
hello to LR and Carla Jo.

It looks like you just joined this list now too, CJ, so I decided to
post a recipe of yours that you sent out to Peeps Cooks almost four
years ago. It is easy, delicious and elegant enough for company
brunch! Add sliced tomatoes or a toss salad, and some crusty bread,
and you have a really wonderful meal in short order.

 Hope you all enjoy it.
 Jennifer

Hope your Birthday holds in store
Happy hours that overflow
With all you're wishing for,
And hope the days that follow it
Make up a year that brings
Everything that you deserve
A million happy things.

Greeetings to all my missed friends,
I am glad to report that I am officially back in town!!
My Uncle's surgery went well as could of been expeted, and all is well.
I had to stay for an extra two weeks to help him recovery at least half way
to his successful recovery.
I had a wonderful time, and enjoyed my parents tremendously, and visa versa.
Daniel met up with me at a later date, but all is well, and I am a bit tired,
but doing good.
I have about a few thousand e mails to catch up on, yikes!!! but; I don't
mind them, I love recieving e mails from all my friends!
God bless and I am sorry for not being able to get back soon, I had no
computer, or cell phone available, due to a electrical storm that we had up iin
3500 feet, wow! it's as if the sky was lite up with fireworks, (so I was told)
but well, I will get back to norm, soon!!
  love and hugs to all!

Funny AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. If you're choking on an ice cube simply pour a cup of boiling water down
your throat. Presto! The blockage will instantly remove itself.

2. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else
to hold while you chop.

3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the
sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a
few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from
rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you'll be
afraid to cough.

7. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't
move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct
tape.

8. Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

9. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Daily Thought:

Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for anything but they bring
a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

[RecipesAndMore] shreaded beef tacos

2008-06-08 Thread juana
Shreddded beef tacos
Ingredients
list of 10 items
. 4 lbs
boneless beef roast
. 2 (1 ounce) packages taco seasoning
. 1 small
onion
, diced
. 2 cups
water
. 5
green onion
, finely chopped
. 1 bunch
cilantro
, finely chopped
. 5
radish
, finely chopped
. 24
corn tortilla
. 3/4 cup oil
. 1 dash
salt
list end

Directions
list of 4 items
1. 1
In the crockpot, mix taco seasoning, onion and enough water to cover your
roast- then add your roast and cook on high for 6 hours or low for 8 to 10
hours.
Once the meat is done, use a fork to shred it and place back into the crockpot.
2. 2
For the garnish mix the radishes, green onions and cilantro in a container with
lid and shake to mix thoroughly. You can mix this up right before meal time
or make it early and just chill until you are ready to serve.
3. 3
The tortillas should be done close to meal time. Using a small fry pan, heat
oil on a medium high heat until hot. Fry the tortillas one at a time because
they cook quickly. Using tongs place tortilla in the oil on one side for 1 to 2
seconds then flip it over and fold in half- use the tongs to gently spread
the shell open. Fry that side for about 15 seconds and then flip the shell over
and fry for about 15 seconds. Place the shell on a plate with a couple
of paper towels and salt lightly while still hot.
4. 4
Use a slotted spoon to put meat into the shells and then top with the garnish
and other toppings to your taste- cheese, tomato, salsa, jalepenos, etc. Enjoy!

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his
collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then
followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the
 corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and
 resumed
his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued
 off
 and on for several weeks.

Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the
owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost
every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his
collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's
trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?

ALUMINUM FOIL - WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW

I didn't know this, did you? Check your boxes today. However, it is not
  on Costco Brand saran wrap.

`I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to
remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know for
instance, when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to
pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box?! Then you have to
put the roll back into the box and start over. The darn roll always
comes out at the wrong time.

Well, I would like to share this with you: Yesterday I went to
throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and
looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said: 'Press
here to lock end. Right there on each end of the box is a tab to lock
the roll in place! How long has this little locking tab been there? I
then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I
then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count
the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying
  to cover something up.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget.

 Hi Delma and Steve
I had an idea that maybe would be fun, and get people to send in recipes
mainly because they would be given a letter of the alphabet.
example let's say we have 26 people, randomly for a week each person would
be given a letter from the alphabet and would have to send in at least 2
recipes starting with that letter, then the next week they would move to
 the
next letter, example let's say you gave me letter A so for the week I
 would
have to send you recipes that start with the letter A, then the following
week I would then have to send you recipes that start with the letter B,
 but
can not repeat what someone else sent when they had the letter Bsee my
 drift.
 What do you thing
 Nicole

  THE OLD PHONE

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our
neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall.
The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to
reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother
talked to it.
Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an
amazing person. Her name was Information Please and there was nothing
she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and
the correct time.

My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my
mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the
basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but
there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give
sympathy.
I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving
at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the
parlor and dragged it to the landing Climbing up, I unhooked the
receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. Information, please I
said into the mouthpiece just above my head. A click or two and a small
clear voice spoke into my ear.
Information.
I hurt my finger... I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily
enough now that I had an audience.
Isn't your mother home? came the question.
Nobody's home but me, I blubbered.
Are you bleeding? the voice asked.
No, I replied. I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts.
Can you open the icebox? she asked. I said I
could.
Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it
to your finger, said the voice.
After that, I called Information Please for
everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me
where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math. She told me my pet
chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat
fruit and nuts.
Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary,
died. I called, Information Please, and told her the sad story. She
listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I
was not consoled. I asked her, Why is it that birds should sing so
beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of
feathers on the bottom of a cage?
She must have sensed my deep concern, for she
said quietly, John always remember that there are other worlds to sing
   in
Somehow I felt better.
Another day I was on the telephone, Information
   Please.
Information, said in the now familiar voice.
How do I spell fix? I asked.
All this took place in a small town in the
Pacific Northwest. When I was nine years old, we moved across the
country to Boston. I missed my friend very much. Information Please
belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought
of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I
grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never
  really left me.
Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I
would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now
how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a
  little boy.
A few years later, on my way west to college, my
plane put down in Seattle. I had about a half-hour or so between planes.
I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there
now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown
  Operator and said, Information Please.
Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I
  knew so well. Information.
I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself
saying, Could you please tell me how to spell fix?
There was a long pause. Then came the soft
spoken answer, I guess your finger must have healed by now.
  I laughed, So it's really you, I said. I
wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?
I wonder, she said, if you know how much
your call meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look
  forward to your calls.
I told her how often I had thought of her
over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to
  visit my sister.
Please do, she said. Just ask for
  Sally.
Three months later I was back in Seattle.
A different voice answered, Information. I asked for Sally.
Are you a friend? she said.
Yes, a very old friend, I answered.
I'm sorry to have to tell you this, she
said. Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she
was sick. She died five weeks ago.

   9-11 poem tribute

  Do You Remember 9~11
I remember that day so very well...do you?

Shock, anger, fear and so many tears
sometimes it seems like yesterday not years.

I could not believe what my eyes saw,
and my feeling were oh so raw.

My eyes glued to pictures that could not be real,
my mind finding the news totally surreal.

First one Twin tower and then two,
what on earth were we going to do.

Then more news of another kind,
the Pentagon the terrorists did find.

I thought what more could there be,
it was not long before I would see.

Flight 93 would give their all,
preventing more deaths their plane they let fall.

I think of the lives so needlessly lost,
why was there such a terrible cost.

Others may attack us again and again,
but we'll stand together until the end.

Please remember all those we lost,
as the price we paid was to big a cost.

Please let there be an end to all wars,
please respect our beliefs and we'll respect yours,

Written by Jackie Sheflin On September 11th, 2007 to honor all those who gave
their lives on September 11th, 2001.

 Hi everyone,
Been busy training or too tired to write. Well it's almost over, but
then the true work begins once we get home. Ivy and Stella are doing
well in all respects. Mike and I are truly proud of them and this school
 too.
Today was Puppyraiser Day and we met the people who raised our
dogs. Ivy's people made me a handmade quilt with 12 pictures of Ivy
sewn and ironed into it from when she was a baby until they gave her
up for training. It made me cry that they were so thoughtful. We
are going to keep in touch after the 3 month no contact
obligation. We go home on Friday and my own bed seems awful inviting
indeed. I have been told that next week is a piece of cake in
comparison to the last three weeks, but I don't know for sure.
I'm sorry not being able to answer every one of you who wrote
individually, but time and lack of energy won't let me right
now. More though as things happen.

  Hi friends,
I just thought I'd jump in here and let you know that I have been away this
weekend.
Most of you know, I have a terrible time here in my mother-in-law's house,
where I temporary live...
it is a hostile enviorment, emotionally and mentally, well, to make a very
very long story short, my parent's surprised me by driving from Joshua Tree, Ca
late Sunday evening, and staying in a hotel till this morning, giving us a
chance to talk, cry, catch up, and cry some more.
  I have missed them so.
you know, it's hard to live in a house where you know that you are not
wanted, loved, needed, totally blind, and just ignored when you speak to that
person and in my case, she just walks away with out saying a word, or shoves me
aside because you are not worth talking ot
well, this is just a little taste of what and how I've lived for a year in a
half now, but we hope to be in our home by the new year, this time for good!!!
One of many reasons why I cherish all of you on this list, because even
though, I son't say much about me, I know I have a friend, or friends to hear
me, if needed, or just to hear your e mails, this brightens up my days.
  so, thank you so much!!
Well, we spent all three days in a hotel, visiting casino's, Lakes, and just
sight seeing in the same city I live in, LOL!
and in the evening, my Daniel would meet us, and he stayed with us at the
hotel, so he was apart of our chats, and cries.
I had a wonderful time, a time to just escape from my depression, and feel
the warmth and love from my family.
but, now I am back here in my room, and holding to all the advice that my
parent's gave me, and keeping strong.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to me, and I apologize if this has
been out of place, or off topic, but I just wanted to share.
  Blessings, and hugs

 Hi Syl,

From my perspective--or is that prospective??? I am here for you. I
keep all of the things that need prayers--from this list--and
elsewhere in my heart and prayers.

I'm sorry it is so rough for you where you are. I do, however, firmly
believe that God gives us things to deal with for a reason--which
 isn't always known to us.

So keep your chin up, trust in God, and know that I am here for
 you--off-list if you like. Anytime.

 Blessings,
 Sherri

##
A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast
as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she
prayed, 'Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please
don't let me be late!' While she was running and praying, she
tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing
her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running
again. As she ran she once again began to pray, 'Dear Lord, please
don't let me be late...But please don't shove me either!'

An elderly woman died last month. Having never married, she
requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten instructions for
her memorial service, she wrote, 'They wouldn't take me out while

I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead.

##
A police recruit was asked during the exam, 'What would you do
if you had to arrest your own mother?' He answered 'Call for backup.'

##
A Sun day School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary
took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A small child replied: 'They
 couldn't get a babysitter.'

Two boys were walking home from Sunday school after hearing

a strong preaching on the devil. One said to the other, 'What do

you think about all this Satan stuff?'

The other boy replied, 'Well, you know how Santa Claus turned
out. It's probably just your Dad.

  There is a secret place

For every single child of God,

  There is a secret place,

Where we can go to hide and pray,

  And seek our Fathers face.

A place where no one else can tread

Where no one else can go,

We find there grace and solitude,

And peace for our weary soul.

We fold our hands and close our eyes,

As we kneel before the Lord,

In the closet of our mind we step,

  Inside and close the door.

We pray according to His will,

  And ask in Jesus' name,

We know our Father hears us,

For His Word says just the same.

We ask the Lord to heal the sick,

  To bless the broken hearted,

Have mercy on the sinners soul,

And peace to the just departed.

  Subject: [RecipesAndMore] Update on Frank!!!

We saw the Oncologist today, after waiting an hour and ten minutes for him.
Frank's chemo treatments will begin next Tuesday or Wednesday. Of course,
since it was after 4 p.m. when we saw his doctor, when his nurse called the
chemo department, no one answered the phone, so Frank has to wait until Tuesday
morning to get his first appointment. He will receive the treatments for 2
weeks, one day a week and then have a week off. I think it will be getting 6
or 8 weekly treatments.

After that, he will have to have some radiation treatments. He told his
Oncologist that he was going to drink some beer and the doctor said that the
people who drink a little don't get as sick as the ones who do not. Frank
drank one beer this evening.

There was a time when he wouldn't stop drinking the stuff, and now, since he
had his kidney removed and all the doctors have told him to drink at least one
daily, he doesn't want beer. Imagine that!!!

I'm also feeling a little depressed because I had to give my little dog,
Maggie, back to my sister, because Maggie was having problems using the
bathroom, (not outside), and the apartment manager got a little upset. We are
going to move out of here when our lease is up in February and my sister,
Kathy, said I could have Maggie back. All she needs is a fenced in yard. I
can't wait.

  Thanks for listening.

  Marilyn

Hi Sandy,

It was funny and yes, I did have the heat too high. Mom lectured me about
that at the time. My brothers still like to talk about it.

Another time, my little sister, Kathy, and I made popcorn on the stove top
and we burned it so bad that when my brother, Mike, got home, he could smell
the smoke outside. He bought us a popcorn popper that year for Christmas. We
didn't have smoke alarms at that time, of course. You know, back in the day.

Finally, a definition of globalization

I can understand and to which
   I can relate:

Question : What is the truest definition of
Globalization?

Answer : Princess

 Diana's death.

 Question : How come?

 Answer :

An English princess with

  an Egyptian boyfriend

   crashes in a French

 tunnel, driving a

   German car

   with a Dutch engine,

   driven by a Belgian

 who was drunk

   on Scottish whisky,

(check the bottle before you change the
spelling),

   followed closely by

 Italian Paparazzi,

   on Japanese motorcycles;

 treated by an American doctor,
using

   Brazilian medicines.

This is sent to you by

   a Canadian,

  using Bill Gates's technology,

and you're probably reading this on your
computer,

   that uses Taiwanese

   chips, and a

 Korean monitor,

  assembled by

  Bangladeshi workers

   in a Singapore plant,

  transported by Indian

   lorry-drivers,

hijacked by Indonesians,

  unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen,

and trucked to you by Mexican
illegal's.

That, my friends, is Globalization!

Great balls of fire! It's September. That means that there's only
three more months before Christmas, then another year will come
 sweeping in.

Funny, my perception of time has always been that it goes by too
fast and there are never enough hours in a day to accomplish
everything I want to accomplish. For example, I am a complete book
fiend. If I could skip meals and sleep, I would be immersed in a book.
My tastes range from romance to whore to religion to mystery to
science fiction to science, you name it, I'll read it.

Regardless of how busy and crazy my schedule is, I always find time
to read. It is a given. It is not uncommon for me to read more than
one book at a time either. I just finished Anne McCaffrey's The Ship
Who Searched, Patricia B. McConnell's For The Love Of A Dog, and
Jon Katz's A Good Dog. The first is a science fiction--I've read all
of McCaffrey's brainship books--, the second is a highly educating
read--Dr. McConnell is also an amazing and lively speaker--and the
third is an account of the author's experiences with adopting a quirky
Border Collie named Orson. I don't remember laughing and then crying
 so much.

I am currently absorbing: The Count Of Monte Cristo, Don't Shoot The
Dog, How We Discovered The Universe, and A Clash Of Kings, the second
book in a series by George R. R. Martin.

I don't know about anyone else, but I start doing my holiday
shopping around this time. Shopping online has its benefits and I take
advantage of it, but I also enjoy going into the stores and actually
picking out some of my gifts. Korema takes great pleasure in these
excursions: So many different smells and things to look at.

Speaking of Korema, she will turn seven on the 19th of this month. I
can hardly believe it. It seemed only yesterday that this
tail-wagging, silly, and energetic puppy exploded into my life. We
trained for a little over two weeks at The Seeing Eye, then she came
back to California with me where she guided me through the rest of
college,, lay quietly at my feet when I gave presentations,
accompanied me on trips to Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Los
Angeles, and was around when I fell in love.

In the beginning, I didn't think we would last more than a year. Now
it has been almost five and a half! And I just adore this little
queen. She never stops amazing me with her abilities as a guide, and
her silly antics out of harness never fail to put a smile on my face.

My birthday is exactly two months from Korema's. That makes me a
Scorpio. Hmmm, wonder what my compatible sign is today. ::LOL::

 Khanh

 get

 Hi Sherri:

Heh heh heh. Any of my nicknames, I answer to except for Connie.
Probably Little Menace is most suitable. ::Grin::

Sherri is actually one of my favorite names. When I was ten, someone
gave me this gorgeous dolly with long, thick hair, and I named her
Sherri. One day, I decided to give Sherri a haircut. Uhhh... That
wasn't exactly the best idea. Oh, well. She ended up having super
uneven hair, which much to my dismay, never grew back.

 Hi:

So one of my favorite drinks is carrot jice. I love that stuff and
can't seem to get enough of it. ::Chuckle::

I'm thinking about buying an electric juicer so I can make my own
juice from fresh carrots. I've never owned one, so I'm wondering if
anyone has any recommendations? I've read about one called the Juice
Man, but I'm sure there are others out there.

  Thanks for any suggestions.

 Hi,

Well, Khanh, I used to have long, long hair. But the older I get, the
shorter it seems to get. No real reason for that. But when the
hairdresser cuts it a little shorter and everyone says how nice it
looks--it seems like I should keep it that way.

I know about cutting hair. One time when I was young, a schoolmate of
mine wanted her hair cut. I volunteered. Well, needless to say that
after that she had to have someone fix the mess I had made. Oh well,
 live and learn.

Juana, Juana Korina is a very pretty name.

Speaking of getting names mixed up, I've been called lots of different
  names
too. Let's see. My name is Becky and I've been called Betsy, Beverley
  and
other B names which is slightly understandable. However, I've also
  been
called Debbie and Amy. Both pretty names, but how in the world did
  they
  get
them out of Becky? LOL. Since my last name is Manners, I've also been
kidded some about that. People have asked me I I'm related to Miss
  Manners.

  LOL.

Okay, so that was maybe a little cheesey. ::Grinss devilishly::

But it's an old running joke. My name Khanh is pronounced like con.
It's funny when someone hears my name spoken and they immediately
think it's spelled c-o-n. So ages ago, I began to joke that I wish I
were a pro instead of a con.

Just to get me to squeal and holler, my former statistics tutor used
to call me Connie. I have other nicknnames too, most of them a
variation of Khanh: Khanhji, Khanhster... But the most common one is
Little Menace which reflects my mischievous nature and twisted sense
of humor. It was given to me by my boyfriend a while ago and when my
dad first heard it, he said, Hmmm, what an accurate nickname. Wish
  I'd thought of it.

Mike's other nickname for me is Oink. I really have no idea where
that came from. Ummm, is that another word for menace, maybe? In any
case, I enjoy feigning indignation just because we both have a weird
  sense of humor. Hahahaha.

Sesame seeds are a good source of copper, offering 74% of your daily
requirement of copper from just a quarter of a cup of the seeds. Copper
can reduce pain and swelling from rheumatoid arthritis due to its
importance in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant enzyme systems. It is
also essential in the role of the enzyme lysyl oxidase, important in
collagen and elastin, providing structure, strength and elasticity in
blood vessels, bones and joints.
Sesame seeds also offer heaps of magnesium which has profound benefits
to vascular and respiratory health. Magnesium has shown its usefulness
in preventing airway spasm in asthmatics; lowering blood pressure which
can be beneficial to people at high risk of heart attack, stroke and
heart disease; preventing the blood vessel spasm linked to migraines;
and restoring normal sleep patterns for menopausal women. Another
nutritional benefit of sesame seeds is their high levels of calcium,
although only unhulled seeds have high levels of this essential
nutrient. As well as the well publicised benefits of calcium in bone
health and the prevention of osteoporosis, calcium can also assist in
the prevention of colon cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines and
pre-menstrual symptoms in the second half of the moon cycle. It should
be remembered, though, that the calcium stored in the hulls of sesame
seeds isn't absorbed as readily into the human body as the calcium
sources in the flesh. Therefore it's unknown how much extra calcium is
available to the human body by consumption of hulls and flesh compared
to flesh alone.
Sesame seeds are also full of zinc which is helpful in maintaining bone
mineral density. Osteoporosis is often considered a women's disease but
many men suffer as well ... 1 in 8 men over 50 will have an osteoporatic
fracture.
Did I mention that sesame seeds are full of good fats? They contain
compounds that lower bad cholesterol levels but also raise good
cholesterol levels. Now, that can't be bad. Can it? Sesame seeds are
great and the oil made from them is wonderful too, in the words of my
bloke, it's all about aroma. Smell and taste are inextricably linked
and what smells good, tastes good ... so try them for yourself.
You might actually like them.

   LORD, PROP US UP
Every time I am asked to pray, I think of the old deacon who always
prayed, Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side.
After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he
prayed that prayer so fervently.
He answered, Well sir, you see, it's like thisI got an old barn out
back. It's been there a long time, it's withstood a lot of weather, it's
gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years. It's still
standing, but one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I
went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it
wouldn't fall.
Then I got to thinking 'bout that and how much I was like that old barn.
I've been around a long time, I've withstood a lot of life's storms,
I've withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I've withstood a lot of
hard times, and I'm still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one
side from time to time, so I like to ask the Lord to prop us up on our
leaning side, 'cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning, at times.
Sometime we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness,
leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of
things that we shouldn't, so we need to pray, Lord, prop us up on our
leaning side, so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the
Lord.
   To the
world, you might be just one person, but to one person, you might be the
world

  Subject: [RecipesAndMore] Butter vs. Margarine

  Butter vs. Margarine

  Things to think about,

Pass the butter ~ ~ ~ ~ This is interesting.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the
turkeys, the people who

had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their
heads together to figure

out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white
substance with no food appeal

so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of
butter.

How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings

DO YOU KNOW... The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared with 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the
same amount of Butter,

according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because
they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of
other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less
than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine.. Very high in Trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers
HDL cholesterol, (the

  good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

  Lowers quality of breast milk.

  Decreases immune response.

  Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY
INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and
anything else that is

hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure
of the substance).

  You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.

Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

  * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should
tell you something)

  * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value;
nothing will grow on it

Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why?
Because it is nearly

  plastic.

Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends..(If you want to butter them up)!

Always demanding the best of oneself, living with honor, devoting one's
talents and gifts to the benefits of Others - these are the measures of success

that endure when material things have passed away.
