Abbey Road. Great album. Don't think there were any BMWs on the
cover though.

I think this might be a case of practice not matching theory. I have
experienced this in more than one BMW and I never left foot brake (sorry).
One of the vehicles coincidentally had a vacuum assist problem due to engine
bay modifications ...

When autocrossing, I believe that you switch from throttle to brake and back
faster than when left foot braking on the track. In fact, probably a lot
faster. My E30 325iX with oversize master cylinder has awesome braking
(albeit not easy to modulate) on the track, but is a disaster when
autocrossing.

Jim, it sounds to me like the power booster went away for a moment,
then came back. Has the car had a vacuum problem? Do E36 M3s even
have vacuum boosters?

I tried the CG lock about a month ago as an Instructor at a DE. Compared to
a stock seatbelt setup- it rocks! I don't know what they cost, but they're
VERY handy and work well.

The CG Lock enables you to easily tighten the lap portion of the OE belt,
while the shoulder portion remains flexible as normal. I've used it in one
autocross so far and it definetly held me in the seat better. I've found it
quite liveable in everyday driving. I believe the retail price is $35.

Subject: Fuse to "reset" fuel gauge in E36M3
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Kevin Jay asked about fuse to pull to reset fuel gauge.

On my 95 E36M3 this would be fuse number 31. I pull for about 15 seconds, put back in
and the gauge usually resets itself and is good to go until at least the next fillup.
Been this way for a couple of years but sporadic. I think for me it is kind of also
tied into the change in gas formulation.

YMMV.

Dumb fuel guage is "stuck". I recall there's a fix for this... something about
pulling a fuse? Any tips greatly appreciated.

All;

I have 2 E36M3s and the LTW has to go since I'm turning my regular M3 into the daily
driver/track car chimera. Please contact me if you would like additional information
about this car. It is as near stock as I can get it. You can also see more at
www.spgmotorsports.com/ltw/ Car is in California as am I. I am interesting in best
reasonable offers. Car has 36K on it and had also been previously owned by Bob Stommel
from whom I purchased it in 1999. Some of you may have seen this car at Putnam Park,
LRP, WGI, Summit Point, or a few tracks out on the West Coast.

1995 M3 Lightweight VIN WBSBF9320SEH08047 Alpine white/black cloth, only 36K miles.
Beautiful rare M3 (1 of ~125 made). Motorsport flags and all LTW Motorsport GT parts
installed. Near stock condition and has TCKline roll bar, Euro M3 oil cooler, gauges,
new Red Line fluids, maint. records, LA chapter 2003 clean car winner. $34,500 or best
reasonable offer. www.spgmotorsports.com/ltw/ (CA).

I use synthetic ATF. I also add MoS2 powder to it.
One data point is the notoriously loosy E34 steering.
On my wife's 525iT, which I bought with only 22K
miles, I've run synthetic ATF with moly. Now with 90K
miles, the steering is tight. The gearbox had not
needed adjusting, yet.

On my E34 M5, which I bought with 85K miles, the
steering was already very loose at that point.

Bad influence that I am, I have been encouraging a friend to trade up
from his e46 3 series to an M5. (Tough life...) He's finally ready to
take the leap, so now I need your help on two questions:

1. He found a car on eBay that fits the bill, but is $55k reasonable
for a silver on black 2001 with 16k miles and a sun roof as the only
option?
ViewItem&category=6131&item=2472383124&rd=1)

2. Does anyone know of any other good used M5s on the market? Cars
with more than 20k miles or not still under warranty and those in
either red or blue need not apply. Proximity to the Bay Area is a
plus. It would be going to a great home...

Any leads much appreciated!

Well, the sunroof is not an "option", neither is the rear spoiler (expect
to delete it). That $56k is not the final price as "who knows" what it will
be bid up to before the auction closes? Maybe no one will bid, hard to say.
I (personally) don't care for the 2 tone seats and chrome trim, but the
included phone is sweet (if on the right carrier). I have one in mine along
with the voice command kit and it works so well (and really impresses any
passengers).

Anyway, I think my first (and maybe) last stop in the search would be the
BMW CPO search page:

http://www.bmwusa.com/cpo

The new search is screwy, but try clicking on sedan, manual, put in zip and
max range. Then filter down by clicking on M cars after the first search.
I show 7 within 15 miles of Beverly Hills - ranging from $59k to $70k
ASKING PRICE.

Paying this much money for a high performance car with no warranty is not
a good idea. Since BMW has no nation-wide used warranty other than CPO that
is the way to go.

It looks like CA cars command higher prices based on my search - that is
too bad. I got my 01 last August with < 10k on it (and phone, tint, and K40
RADAR detector, and 4th year of free maintenance) for around $57k. I got to
talk to the original owner (he traded for an 03 with full Dinan "works" on it)
and they did it CPO.

You can call your local BMW service department and give them the VIN of this
ebay car (or any you find via the CPO search) and they can give you in-service
date, warranty expiration data, service history (no matter where serviced),
and CPO information. Who knows, maybe the ebay car is a CPO car?

CPO or not, do a CarFax and pay for a pre-purchase inspection.

I'm in need of a new hood for my Jet Black E36 325is.
Anyone have or know of any wrecks that might have
hoods available? Other than Bimmers South, what
recyclers are out there? What about aftermarket?

Alternatively, what experiences with carbon
fiber/fiberglass have you all had?

Appreciate the info.

I ended up giving away the last one I had for sale.

The cars have no resale value, and are definately not worth the $50K+ asking
prices on ebay.

Do a search on completed items, for the M5. You'll see most do not meet
reserve, and have been listed time and time again.

$40-45K would be the area this car should be priced at.
