This would be a good question for Rich D. but based on what I heard I
would assume a couple of things. 1) you can hook up your lines for
your oil cooler to it. 2) it is probably already tapped for a stock
warning light and since it's for a euro motor also tapped for an oil
temp sender.

All my aftermarket gauges have 1/8 NPT senders though so I'd have to
buy more adapters (PITA to find these locally) and ordering them online
cost me about $12 a pop since I have to buy a bag full of adapters only
to use the one M12x1.5 one <sigh>. It did come with a crush washer
which made it worthwhile, I had a tough time sealing the one I borrowed
from a friend (w/o crush washer).

BTW you E36 dudes mount the oil press senders right there on the filter
housing? I'm used to the massager motor (the S-fourteen) which if you
mount the sender right on the housing it will vibrate it free and dump
all the oil on the track and you'll end up with a lunched motor.

It's also tapped for the Euro VANOS line and will need to be re-tapped
to fit the US one (I can't remember the fitting size offhand).

No issues with this on a real motor. :)

Seriously, I'm using the JTD block on my race car and it's fine (except
when I forgot the second crush washer on the banjo bolt and it was
seeping oil).

Hey don't go there, I'm an S-fourteenista (<--Rob L. phrase) by heart.

Besides the real motor would be the Yurro one where this oil filter
housing comes from, if you have one throttle body ya ain't got a real
motor! ;-)

As much as I loved my E30 M3, I always thought the S14 was highly
over-rated.

It's the chassis that was magic on that car.

Well my engine builder says that multiple throttle body stuff is way over
rated and he can get the same hp w/o it. He does admit for they are
beneficial for drivability issues IF properly set up. He asked me "I can do
that for you if you want, but you want to fiddle with it all the time, or
just go race and save some bucks?"

which reminds me. I need to call him and see where my pistons are in the
manufacturing cycle.

for the tire gurus:
I'm having all four of my M5 wheels replaced under warranty ("shadow chrome"
starting to go). I only have aobut 3.5K mi on my Pilot Sports, so I'm having
them remounted on the new wheels. Unfortunately, one of the replacement
wheels was defective. This was found after it was mounted. So when I get my
car back one of the rear tires will have been mounted three times. Is this a
problem at all, and would repeated remounts impact the integrity of the
tire? Does anyone have any idea how many re-mounts one of these tires
(275/35-18) might take without it being compromised?

TIA,

I would not think it would hurt anything if done properly - I have had race
tires (really stiff sidewalls) re-mounted many times including turned around
w/o a problem. Plus - every flat now requires a remount to patch from the
inside to fix it properly.

All that said, is this a known issue with M5 wheels? My 2001 M5 has 13k
or so on it and I might want to check the wheels for this problem while
I am still under the base warranty. Got pix?

Thanks!

it, any typical problems? Subframe? This would be the E46 right? Don't

E30 radiator support/inner nose panel:

Powerless over the project car bug, I think after ten years I may
go for one again.
What would aprox. parts cost and labor times be to R&R the radiator
support and associated sheet metal, welding, etc., on an E30? If I go
for this project, I'll take care of the mechanicals myself but I'm
clueless about bodywork on these.
The car is a 1989 325iC convertible that looked and ran excellently
before getting hit in the front at a sideways pull on the bumper when
the driver nosed out into an intersection too much. Bumper is ~5 inches
to the right of center, radiator now sits a few mm in front of the
clutch fan. I can pick it for a few hundred or less.
What might a California car in the SF Bay area sell for raw in this
current condition? what could it sell for repaired. (no alarms here, my
conscience would insure that I deal straight with the buyer that the car
was crashed and repaired.)

My owner's manual recommends 10K, 5k if you're working it hard. I've
decided on 10k now that the warranty is up.

I don't think it's that bad, and you don't have to wait 15 minutes, when the
water temp comes up, that should be pretty good.

My 9-3 makes me miss the hatchback space from my old 9000turbo. Nice, flat
loading area big enough for a full size fridge, with relatively similar
performance. I looked at the 01 325's & 325 tourings, but they were much
more expensive & offered seriously less content & performance comparitively.
By the time a 325it was optioned up with the sport pack, manual, leather,
heated seats, & all the options the Saab SE pack offered, it was darn close
to $40k. Compared to the $26k (ok, ok some GM discount there) for the still
better optioned, more powerful, better perfoming Saab, there was a simple
"no contest." Now that gas is $2 a gallon, the 31mpg is nice too. Well,
that & I already had an M3!

I'm actually going to miss my 9-3SE if anyone ever buys it.....

the euro filter housing has a connection for the factory under-tach
oil temp gauge (3.0l cars, 3.2l cars w/o SMG-I only, MZ3's and
S54's have a plug instead) and the normal pressure switch for the
idiot light. they of course have the oil cooler connections which you're
looking for. If you used the factory temp location for a pressure
gauge on the housing you'd just have to get temp somewhere else,
perhaps the in-pan location which Marco uses & Neil used.

not sure whether they changed the style of connection between
the cooler & the engine from an E30 to the S50, but if they
didn't it would be a matter of re-bending the tubes to get them
to the right location. otherwise you'd need to do do the changes
you suggested above.

dealer list for the filter housing has dropped from $450-$500 down
to ~$350, so you can whatever CCA/friend of the parts guy/racer/etc
discount off that to get an idea of a street price.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Sorry for the cross post

However, I wanted to get as much collective knowledge as possible.

The trans on my newly aquired 91 535 with 135k miles whines. The noise is in
every gear under power. Off throttle you generally can not hear the noise. You
can also hear the pitch of the noise change as you shift gears. I changed the
trans fluid which was very low and very dirty. There were also some metal
shavings on the magnetic plug. Is this trans in need of rebuild or are we
talking input of pilot bearing?

The shifter: It is either a Bav auto or Dinan, the shifter bushings are
obviously worn. Lots of play. Another problem is that it seems to pop out and
vibrate, then pop back in again. You can feel it pop in your hand(very
annoying noise) Also the shift action sucks and the shift position in the car
is terrible. It's like the shift was mounted backwards as 2 and 4 are straight
up and 1, 3, and 5 are very far forward. Anyone have experience with these
short shifters, and problems?

If this is normal shifting for those shifters I am either going back to a
stock unit or a UUC shifter.

TIA

Karl
