Everything played fine on the first try. My objective was the same as yours....get by with just a new head unit (no elaborate stereo....repairs have already cost me enough on this car!), although when I saw how cheap the Blaupunkt speakers were I opted to replace the factory Nokias with them too and they sound great. I was also trying to match the radio lights and display as close as possible to BMW amber. Whole mod cost me about $150 and is still sounding great 3 yrs later. The designation is C43. It should plug directly into your car, with no wiring changes whatsoever. And...it has somewhat higher output, so it will improve the sound of your stock stereo a bit. You can find them on eBay for a couple of hundred dollars. You will need the $20 tool from BMW to remove the head unit. This is literally a 5 minute operation, with the right tool. I did this to my '98 E36, and it was very easy. There is one on eBay right now at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&rd=1&item=7946101735&category=43948 Do not get the unit from an E46, which is also called a "Business CD". It uses a different wiring harness. -tdc ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2005 22:36:48 -0500 From: Rob Norwalk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Subject: Re: <E36> Stereo Head Unit Installation Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Be aware that if the recipient car in question is a 95 or earlier, this may not work.
