Andrew I have a spare M20 i motor in a garage (not my garage), I can probably come up with that part for you guys. I'll have a look before the weekend. For winter use and all around for that matter a 5W or 10W synthetic is fine. Collins" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: p0340 error code Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had the check engine light come on in my car this weekend and it read out as P0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. I searched the archives and I have not seen any posts on this other than Brett Anderson saying that an alarm will not cause this code. So my question to everyone is what causes this to fail? Should I just replace the sensor and go from there? Anyone replace this sensor before and then have it be something else? I am looking for any heads up info I can get on this. I plan on taking a look at it this weekend and probably will just buy a new sensor and put it in. Is there anything else I should check before I do that? The car engine turns over a lot before it starts. It used to start immediately and now it takes a second and a half. Plus, I am also noticing the usual engine lurching and loss of power associated with this. There is definitely some timing issues that can be felt. Is there any harm in driving it until this weekend? It would be freeway drving == stop and go. Otherwise does it take long to fix? I will be consulting the Bently afterwork tonight. One last question, is OEM a good choice or should I get an aftermarket sensor. Any advantages/disadvantages. Thanks guys Roy Collins 1996 328i -- lurching along and the CEL is so bright it hurts to drive at night. :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 2004 15:35:36 -0800 From: Mark Dadgar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: E36M3 E36M3 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, UUC Digest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: BMW Oil Change Intervals Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Uhh, maybe following the oil lights ain't such a good idea ... http://www.justracing.com/bmw/viewtopic.php?t=12 - Mark ----- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 2004 20:07:31 -0500 From: "KMS - Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "UUC Digest" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: BMW Oil Change Intervals Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I, and all other BMW specialists, have been saying this for years. Nothing to worry about. It has insulative properties and keeps things quieter and damps vibration. -- "It is an honor to be Cookie Monster." -Sesame Street spokeswoman Audrey Shapiro ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 01:52:15 -0500 From: "Rich Dorffer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "John Bolhuis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: BMW Oil Change Intervals Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > On Mon, Nov 29, 2004 at 08:07:31PM -0500, KMS - Brett Anderson wrote: > > > I wonder what the know it alls have to say now...... So, future oil changes would require less oil since all that "wasted" space in the oil pan is utilized by the sludge. It is the best of both worlds, you get extended oil change intervals, and you use less oil on those changes. BMW thinks of everything... ;-) Later, Rich ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 00:01:09 -0800 From: "Ziv Gillat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: E46 330Ci brake pads/rotors Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hei BMW Gods. So I'm sure this topic has been discussed a million times before, but I hate the searching feature of the UUCDigest. I can never find anything. So either someone implement a good search engine (per thread, not per day) for UUC, or reply to this question :-) I went to the track this weekend (ThunderHill). It was amazing. But my pads had 2mm before the sensor, and they overheated (turn 14 will always get me). I tried to cool the pads/rotors after every run, but not sufficiently, I guess. Anyway, it was time to change the set... So... Since this is not the first time that it has happened to me, on this track, and I want to keep tracking the car, w/o having to change the pads to racing pads before every track day -- is there a product out there, or a pad/rotor kit, that would work in the streets, w/o being too noisy and grinding, and would also work on the track, w/o overheating? At least I have superBlue, so I don't think I'll need a flush... Basically I'm looking at your experience and opinions on good performance pads that do not overheat like the stock E46 pads do. Thanks --- Ziv. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 10:36:51 -0500 (EST) From: Mark Andy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: UUC Digest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: BMW Oil Change Intervals Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Howdy, On Mon, 29 Nov 2004, KMS - Brett Anderson wrote: > I, and all other BMW specialists, have been saying this for years. > > These photos were put on a professional list that I belong to. I'd been using around 7k miles and had the oil analyzed twice. Both times it came up roses. This last time, I decided to follow the service interval lights. I'm now around 8k miles and still on three green lights...
