Yeah, and it's back in the Roundel Classifieds again for December
with the same picture, too. No price this time. At least he calls it
a "5-speed" in his Roundel ad.

It _is_ purdy - but $20K? That's a serious sucker hunt.

It makes me want to ask: If one were going to sink a bunch of money into a
BMW restoration project, with ANY hope of recovering even a moderate
fraction of the "investment", why would one choose that particular model?

And if that didn't offend anyone, perhaps this will, although the comment
was not mine...

For some reason this car reminds me of a former manager here at work who
drove a Bavaria well into the late '80s. (For all I know he still has it,
but he no longer works here.) A cow-orker said, "He knew driving a BMW was
cool, but he picked the wrong model." Well, at least he didn't sink a
small fortune into restoring it, AFAIK.

Personally I like (and regret no longer having my E23) but at that price no
thanks.

Also descriptions are interesting... "masterfully incorporated in stock
locations" components.... ohhh you mean like those camo'd speakers on the
doors and that big sub box and amp in the trunk?

By and large, in general, as a rule of thumb, 97.347% of the itme,
clich of your choice, almost NO resto project that is any good will
even return the investment let alone make money. Half the ones that do
make money, really don't because you undervalued your own labor. The
other half that make money do because you cheated some old lady out of a
rare old car hidden in her garage after her husband died.

OK gruppe. I have a question about Ebay. I'm currently the high bidder
on a relisted bimmer on Ebay that didn't sell in first auction I think
due to way too high reserve/buy it now price ($8500 for an '87
E28!!!!....not even a 535, it's an eta). Just found out the guy has it
listed in 2 different ads! Is this legal???? What the h&ll is he going
to do if someone does happen to reach his reserve in both auctions?

Oh yeah, a good way to make a little money is to
start with a
"classic"
car and a lot of money. If I spent that much on
restoring that thing,
I
would keep it.
Maybe it would sell faster if he mentioned that this
was the car that
Biff was polishing for McFly in "Back to the Future".
(If I remember
right. No further discussion of BMWs in movies!)

He might do even better if he had listed it in Ebay
Motors and not under 'Antique Carpets' !!

Nick, Roy, Carl, Jon, Michael, et al:
My apologies if this is a duplicate post -- I don't believe my post
yesterday made it to the digest.
Thanks for all the responces, suggestions, and links.
Our rental car will need to accomodate me, my wife, and two sons (we're all
pretty small, but my wife's suitcases are not :) ) -- yet the car will need
to navigate St. Malo, where I suspect the streets are rather narrow. I'm
thinking about some kind of midsize touring. I had thought bigger and faster
originally, but the rates just get a little absurd imo for anything
*remotely* upscale.
Anyway, I'll post back should I find anything interesting.
Cheers,

Over on Suzy's M3 list someone posted a procedure
for associating alarm remotes with an installed
factory alarm. It's a procedure you'd use if you
lost a remote and bought a new one and had to
connect it to the alarm.

I asked a follow up question about installing a
new alarm, but never got an answer.

What does the dealer do to code an alarm
to a car? Are special tools really required, or
is it just another pat-your-head-rub-your-stomach-
while-jumping-up-and-down procedure?

My car is a '98 M3 if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

This site was posted a day or so ago. Worthwhile for 3k oil change zealots
to read.

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/mobil1.html

Excerpt from the above site:

>Engine wear actually decreases as oil ages. This has also been
substantiated in testing conducted by Ford Motor Co. and >ConocoPhillips,
and reported in SAE Technical Paper 2003-01-3119. What this means is that
compulsive oil changers are actually >causing more engine wear than the
people who let their engine's oil get some age on it.

Title says it all. I have a friend with an X3 and iPod integration, but
apparently, the Nav system uses the stereo/computer port that the iPod would
use.

Anyone come up with a way to set up an extra Aux port? Any positive
experiences with the leading third party products from Soundgate/Denison?
