Ummm. Any large dark trash bags? Not pretty, but cheap and very effective.

Subject: [UUC] off season wheel storage

I'm looking for a wheel storage bag that will protect my summer wheels from
dust and dirt while they sit waiting for summer to arrive again. I know BMP
was giving away a storage bag like this a few months ago when you bought a
wheel and tire set, but I don't know of anywhere to buy just the bag.
Anyone have any sources?

Thanks,
Brian

OK, the plot thickens. A little closer attention shows that I got some shit
backwards in that last post.

The 453 radiator does NOT have an integrated oil cooler. It is designed for
manual trans or a separate cooler mounted in front of it. The 138 also does
NOT have an integrated cooler, it's designed for cars with manual trans or a
heat exchanger mounted to the transmission for automatic fluid cooling.

The applications I listed are correct, including production dates. However,
the 530i WITH integrated cooler uses 17 11 1 723 398.

Regardless, the original person should have been able to use the 453 in a
late 530, UNLESS, it's possibly missing the mounting holes for the external
cooler.

Without having the 953 and the 138 side by side, it'll be hard to tell why
they're different.

Sorry for any confusion.

and I too have made a mis-statement:
The guy has a 1994 530iat that was made in 3/93.
Not a 1995 530i as I mentioned in an earlier
post.

Thanks Brett for your valuable info!

Ahh, so I wasn't initially wrong based on the information given and this is
the reason why the radiator was wrong since for his 1994 530iat (when I said
it appeared to be correct)...

Later,

Rich - apparently not worth any thanks, especially with Brett around... ;-)

Sorry Rich, all credit goes to the both of you.

I've asked the seller if it was the lack of
mounting holes for the external
cooler that caused him to have to get ahold of a
different radiator for his
car. I'll let you know.

Regardless, so it seems the 458 will fit my 1995
540ia. I'm going to go
ahead and buy it.

Thanks again for all your help.

Quick release ones are 'spensive. I have the VAC Motorsport one
because of price but even so it was still expensive. ~$160 IIRC, most
are north of $200.

Then the quick release probably won't work for you. I was going to do
some elaborate horn button installation with pigtail (phone like) wires
like the ones you see on race cars but then I decided to wait until the
car is a dedicated race car to install the quick release and forget
about the horn, instead I need to wire in a radio for Ben to call the
starts for me <g>. For now I have a Momo hub that still allows the use
of the horn.

The cheap route IMO is to find a used Momo hub adapter $45-50 and a
suede steering wheel (Momo, Sparco, etc) that's on sale ~$100. If I
buy a race car this weekend my hub adapter may be on sale. :-)

Carlos.

Yeah yeah, I should have mentioned that, but I just
didn't think of it before sending off the email...I'm
looking for something more than trash bags, something
that would protect from damage as well...i.e. a nylon
bag or something of the like, something at least a
little thicker or more tear resistant than trash bag
plastic.

Dennis - thanks for the pointer to BavAuto. I could
have sworn I checked them out, but maybe I missed it.

where exactly are you going to be storing your wheels
& tires that they're likely to get more abuse than a
decent garage bag is going to protect them from ?
machine shop ? knife-throwing practice field ?

if they have tires on them the only part of them which
might be exposed to anything is the top wheel, so just
bag 'em & put a piece of cardboard on top & leave them
in a corner of the garage or basement. they'll be just fine.

They'll be in my exterior (covered) patio, but not
sealed from the elements, with a hyper roaming dog and
other miscellany floating around. Just trying to
maintain the wheels in good shape (even though they
were already damaged from some jerk tow truck driver).

Smart a$$e$ ;)

I saw this tire carrier advertized in GRM. $19 for 2.
It may be useful for people without trailers.

Large plastic leaf/trash bags aren't good enough? They're certainly cheap
enough.

If your garage's level of interior decoration requires something more
elaborate you could get vinyl wheel covers as used for SUV wheels, about $15
each on the web. I use these to transport track wheels inside my M3.
