During test drive, right after installation, while making sharp turns I noticed deep sounding growling type noise coming from the rear of the car. It is especially pronounced while making u-turns. Also, after the car has been driven, there is a bit of oil seep from the input shaft seal about half dollar coin size (it appears that it doesnt leak when the car is cold or sitting for a while). I driven the car about 300 miles since installation and the noise is still there. I have to say that I do not think that I have been taken by the seller on the contrary the seller was very helpful, honest and truthful. The seller also cleaned the diff really well and replaced all the seals among other things (diff practically looked brand new). I put two quarts of Redline 75W90 in it (I triple checked it wasnt NS). I also used all new nuts and triple checked torque values on all the nuts and bolts that I touched. Here are also few notes, however I am not sure of relevance: -For shipping, the diff was packed really well, however the seller left the diff cover off (on my request). When diff arrived there were some cardboard fibers on the ring and pinion gear (probably due to handling of the shipper). I think I cleaned it all off. -I replaced speedometer sensor due to difference of the plug shape. To my understanding it can go in only one way due to indexing features of the retaining plate -It appears that if making u-turn while coasting (no power) the growling noise is less (not sure of this very subjective) -There appears to be low level high pitch noise while driving in the straight line -I cant hear growling noise while making high speed turns (like on hwy) it might be quenched by the engine noise though -When I was swapping diffs I did not move the driveshaft out of the way. It did not rest on the fuel line though I put jack stand under it (I took off one of the undercover plates). Is it possible that driveshaft, or input bearing, or something else got damaged during maneuvering of the diffs. and that growling noise is due to that? Any thoughts of what might be wrong to cause this growling noise, or what to test next is greatly appreciated. Igor 86 325 BMW CCA GGC __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo! I think I contacted BBS and fount them (centers for RC's) for over $100ea!! What I did was replace the center BBS emblem with a hood roundel with the mounting pegs clipped off and the sharp edge rounded off just slightly. We then forced the roundel into the old cover with a HEAVY cardboard tube. (wood would work here...) Feel free to call me for a long winded explanation... The result as a STOCK looking wheel center that has gotten many complements. The roundels cost like $8 ea! YEAH!! The cheap bastard triumphs again!! LOL Paul A. Left and bottom coasters need not read further. Be very careful (I've been saying that a lot recently....) about banging on the dash to test instrument cluster conditions when it's cold out. I've seen more than one factory tech crack a customer's dash by performing this test in cold weather. This one is for 60 degrees and above........ "Beige" and "Tan" are generic and "Pearl" was as earlier color never used on the E36. Easiest way to find out is to run a Vehicle History at a dealership. It'll give you color and upholstery codes as well as option strings. I had down market 17" BBS wheels (Moda) on my V855T. About the 4th time I had my wheel guy straighten one he gave me a set of BBS centercaps for them. When he offered to take the POS BBS Modas in on trade for some stock (and much stronger) Volvo 17" wheels I took him up on it. Long story short - the BBS center caps went with the cheap wheels. But I still have the Moda center caps if you'd like them. I could barely afford the car at the time, so $600 + an alignment (going quote for RTAB R&R) then was a great motivator to figure it out myself.
