I would look at it in a heartbeat if I 1) was in CA and 2) didn't already have a '92 535i/5sp with many fewer mods. Somebody on the list should snap this up. Really. These cars don't come around every day, in decent condition, not even counting the mods. Jon<---in snowy Boston ======================================================= All this talk about what you would buy for $10k makes me want to throw this hat into the ring. I have a fairly nice 535i, 5-speed manual with numerous modifications. All suspension has been gone through with new M5 sway bars, Koni shocks, Eibach springs, upper and lower control arms, center link, idler arm and pitman arms. Has E34 M5 brakes with new rotors and mintex pads. E34 M5 wheels 8's and 9's(bare) with new tires. Hartge strut brace and exhaust. Short shifter, new clutch, Turner chip, Mustang injectors, 3.5 bar FPR and Business CD. Probably has more than that but who can remember. I bought the car a little over a year ago and all work has been done over the last year. This is a very strong runner and lots of fun to drive. This is a very good example of an E34 with all the nice modifications, all fresh and ready to play. Has 202k, black with natur tan leather. Compression is excellent, uses about 1/2 quart of oil over 2500 miles. Smogs very clean in CA. $6500 Firm. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Okay Dave, here is an idea for you. How about a nice car to cover some miles! I have a 540i that I'm just cleaning up to sell, here are the basics: 94 540iA - 135,000mi Alusil short block installed at 88k miles (I have the receipts to show this) I got it at 90k miles, and have put new Bilstein Sports and Bav Auto springs on it. I have a set of BBS RX 17" rims with Yoko AVS ES-100 tires (spent, but could do a DE session), and the original 15" rims with Artic Pilot snow tires on them. I've put new upper control arms with 750iL bushings on it. Plus new brake rotors and front right caliper. Oh, and a new heater valve. The power steering leaks a bit, which is typical on these cars, but I only need to top it off once a month at most, so its much cheeper to buy the Pentosin then to replace the hose, which requires lifting the motor (a bit beyond my skills). Other than that, the engine has been strong and has needed nothing but some nice BMW synthetic. The exterior is clean, with minor scratches on it. Interior is clean. I just replaced the front sway bar links, which were causing the typical "clunk", a front fog light, and the Air Flow Meeter boot. I also have a Bentley manual, some fuel filters (it takes 2), a microfilter (interior filter), and the original springs if you want them. Basically I bought this car to play with, but the new company I have started has stolen all my spare time, and most of the spare cash to finish upgrading the car. I'm up in Northboro, MA, which is about an hour west of Boston. I'm looking for something like $8,900 for the car, but could be flexible if you don't want the 17" rims. Or keep them, and spend the rest of the 10k on a chip and a valve body upgrade for the tranny, those were next on my list. Let me know if you are interested, and I can send photos and more info. Or hey, if you want a different kind of "ride", check out www.parleecycles.com for a peek at what I spend my time doing now. I can build you a nice custom 14lb full carbon bike for under 10k... That would be real different! They're designed to have the same geometry as an offset M3 bushing so there shouldn't be any handling issues. I don't exactly know what the bushing material is (guessing delrin) so they may be overkill for a street car. Their biggest advantage is on E30s with swapped motors (M50s, S50s, etc), they allow more room for the exhaust headers/pipes. That's all I know about 'em. The cheaper version holds 75 hours worth, the more expensive version 300 hours plus an accident log (the last 20 seconds of movement in detail), and you can program it to watch various sensors (voltage, throttle position, RPM, etc). Looked too spendy to me, but interesting - then I noticed in the AutoZone Sunday ad that they sell them for a discount. Not much more than just a code reader: $100 for the 75 hour model. From their page I noticed the E/X model (4x the memory plus the ability to log 4 other functions) was just $30 more. It does not yet support the "CAN" protocol, so it will not work with some 2004 and 2005 vehicles, there is a list on the web page. Anyway, I picked one up yesterday and tried it in a couple of the cars and it works fine. I read the code I needed to read and could even reset the "service engine soon" light with this if I wanted to. I am thinking one of these will go into whatever the boys (teenagers) end up driving when they get their licenses. Here are the plots of my commute to work this morning. I will admit I was a little too spirited at times - just wanted to see what it would show (that is my story and I am sticking to it). My 18.8 mile trip used < 1% of the memory on the E/X model chip I purchased - so the standard would be enough for most folks - but you can't watch the extra items like you can with the E/X. I used the defaults for hard brake, hard acceleration, extreme brake, and extreme acceleration (0.28g and 0.48g). I know the brake settings and probably the acceleration settings need to be raised for ME, since I had 16 hard brake events and 10 hard acceleration events this morning :-) http://people.delphiforums.com/DLWYNNE/carchip/SPEED.jpg http://people.delphiforums.com/DLWYNNE/carchip/LOAD.jpg http://people.delphiforums.com/DLWYNNE/carchip/COOLANT.jpg http://people.delphiforums.com/DLWYNNE/carchip/INTAKE.jpg http://people.delphiforums.com/DLWYNNE/carchip/VOLTAGE.jpg Dennis 01 M5 silver/black ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2005 16:30:37 -0600 From: Scott Staewen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Dennis Wynne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: CarChip - ODB-II reader and data logger Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> very cool.
