Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Saw a really huge one at Mori Moto in Philadelphia. Had to be nearly six feet tall and four feet wide. For those that don't know, Mori Moto is the upscale sushi restaurant in Philadelphia, owned by "the Iron Chef" himself, that is supposedly "the best in the world". I know it's darn close, but The Sushi Lounge in Hoboken could give it a run for it's money. MM had great decor, 5-star service staff, and the absolute worst forks I've ever seen. No, I didn't use the fork much, mostly chopsticks (which I can use right-handed or left-handed), but when I had to, it was horrible with a reverse curve to it. Good to use as a scooping tool, not good to use with the "directed Euro" technique. There was also one lovely young woman sushi chef, the first I've seen. - Rob ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 10:17:47 -0400 From: CsWs <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: UUC List <[email protected]> Subject: test post Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sorry if this actually comes though been betting bounced for some time. -- Karl ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 11:15:52 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] (bmw list) Subject: Re: E36 exhaust hangers Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >From Rob Levinson * UUC Motorwerks > >No, your CE light is still on, but in an alternate reality. An explanation, possibly, at last? >> Barry > The technical explanation is that the tire rubbing on the exhaust is causing a net negative charge at the exhaust tip, resulting in a positive charge at the engine end. The net positive charge on the block results in better performance of the spark plug leading to faster more consistent ignition and a more uniform burn, reducing emissions. Further, the resulting polarization of the combustion byproducts leads to improved secondary reactions in the increased oxygen environment present at the exhaust port during the period of valve overlap... -- Joe, brought to you by the Rockwell Retro-encabulator... My 96 3/4 ton 4X4 ran $7500 and is rated for 10,000 lbs. The long wheelbase and the 454 make it pull just about anything very nicely and you can put the family, the dog ,and all your stuff inside. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mo, the Edmunds site sounds like it is giving you the towing capacity for the 6 cylinder Durango. My '98 with 5.2 liter V8, tow package (HD cooling and electrical) and the factory Class III hitch is rated to tow something like 5000 pounds (maybe more, I can't remember the exact number). This would be suitable for a car on an open trailer, but not in an enclosed trailer, given the right car and trailer. If this might meet your needs, ours will be for sale probably in September, right after we get the 90K mile service done and take one last vacation. >Scott Miller >San Ramon, CA >GGC BMW CCA > >From: Mo Karamat <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: Cheap Tow Vehicle?? >Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Dear Group, > > I am looking to buy a tow vehicle. Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Brett, how do you define "true truck frame"? I would call it a ladder frame separate from the body, in which case the Durango qualifies. The Durango does not have a unibody, like many marques are making now to cater to those who's needs are more car-like. If you're talking only about vehicles with a 3/4 ton vehicle capacity, it would not. I've had no problems towing a variety of fairly heavy trailers (4000+ pounds) with our Durango. BTW, Dodge's mid-size pickup is called the Dakota. It was one of the first to name the vehicle after a place, instead of using a number. A friend of mine has his 87' 535is for sale...asked me if I would post it. Please contact him directly if interested..Hal Doby [EMAIL PROTECTED] Scott Here's the description of my now dead 1987 535is. I sold it to my roommate and because of his lack of finances, he cannot afford to repair the car. The car has almost 350,000 chassis miles on it and ran incredibly well. Here is my list of wreck damage The entire nose was impacted. The fenders are bent below the bumper line and I think they could be salvaged. (they bent with the spoiler distortion.) The car had the Euro M353i grill and headlamps on it. The driver's side high beam was shattered and a DOT-spec lamp will not fit the car. This would have to be had from Germany. The Euro grilles were shattered too, so they would have to be special ordered. The bumper was pushed back and up and the spoiler is all bent up and I assume it has to be broken somewhere in the shape it is. The radiator support was pushed back and the frame was bent on both sides of the motor forward of the suspension mounting points. The radiator impacted the motor's cooling fan, so the car cannot be driven. Also the lower portion of the spoiler is touching the wheels, so it will have to be removed/cut off before the car is rolled around. The hood is also bent up. We had a hard time opening the hood and once we got it up, we removed the latches so its just sitting there. In the cockpit, the black plastic that goes around the fan assembly was broken by my roommate's knee. The M-Technic steering wheel is slightly distorted. Here is a list of the things that were wrong with the car that didn't involve the wreck. The car has the power Recaro Sport seats. The lower bolsters were broken and the leather is in poor condition, but the seats could easily be striped, the frames re-welded, and new upholstery installed with no problem. The rear seat upholstery is starting to deteriorate. The tires are almost worn out. The dash has a couple of cracks. There is a chip in the windshield. The rubber mounts for the rear end were in need of repair. The motor's fuel injection air sensors were in need of a very good cleaning as the low-end idle, especially with the air on, was a bit rough. Here is what is good about the car. Drivetrain: The 3.5 litre motor is a "big valve" engine that has about 50,000 miles on it since its rebuild. The transmission has under 50,000 miles on it We dropped the transmission about 2 years ago and the clutch only had about 20% wear on it and was in great condition. The front hubs were recently replaced as were the brake discs. There are 3 year old Bilstiens all-around on the full M-Technic suspension setup. The car had rebuilt half-shafts installed about 2 years ago. The battery is 2-years old and in great shape. The air worked great. New alternator. New power steering pump. Wheels: The car sits on a set of 4 "genuine" BMW 16" alloy wheels taken from the just past 7-series that were offered for 1 year. They are a very unique design and look amazing on the e28. The left front tire blew and the car is on its spare right now. I looked and there was no damage to the wheel. I am told these wheels cost about $450 each and because they were only used in limited numbers on a limited edition 740 for one year, they are rare. Body Structure: Besides the damage to the front of the car, the rest of the vehicle is in straight condition with no dents, rust, or damage. Radio: I am taking out the Kenwood head unit and ADS rear speakers, sorry. The radio interfaces with our iPods, so its going into whatever Charles replaces the car with. The good news is the wiring harness for the radio is intact and not cut up. To repair the car, the damaged body parts would have to be taken off and the put on a frame machine to pull out the two bent frame rails (which bent at an intended crush point). Once that is done, the repair job would be a straight-forward bolt-on affair. It looks like the only mechanical important item that has suffered damage was the radiator which cost $140 at German Auto Parts (wholesaler). The hood already had some damage on it from a deer encounter and I was quoted $150 for a replacement from Strictly German. Bobby sold me the used Euro nose parts for about $250-300 years ago and I would assume that would be a good price today. He told me he could get a full M535i bumper/spoiler assembly (also used) from Germany for $300, so for about $750 in parts, the nose could be better than it was! If the car is to be salvage fodder, I have been told that the entire drivetrain and suspension can be taken off this car and put on another e28 with ease. So an owner of a 528 could easily convert his or her car to a 535i./M535i/or 535is. The car's history is such. It was sold new at Chris Motors in Decatur. It came back to Chris in 1989 as a trade-in. My friend Amy Allain-Lester, who was quite active in the BMW CCA purchased the car and used it as a daily driver. She sold the car to a performance driving instructor at Road Atlanta around 1994-1995. He blew the motor in the car and sold it to Bobby Thrash, owner of Strictly German near Road Atlanta in 1999. I bought the car and Bobby put a rebuilt engine in it. I have put about 45,000 miles on the car since that time. My roommate purchased the car from me in September 2004 and drove it as his daily driver until two weeks ago when he ran it into a wall of railroad ties in front of our apartment. I will only get rid of the car whole, so I won't sell it off bit by bit. You should find one for under $12k with good miles.Makes a great tow vehicle (long wheelbase) with tons of room for tires and tools when the seats are folded down and removed. The only mod I made was installing a transmission cooler. _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find.
