A Timesert by itself probably won't get you anywhere - you also need the cutter that cuts the counterbore for the Timesert, and the installation tool to form the threads in the Timesert which lock it in place. So, you'll need the Timesert kit, which isn't very cheap. Might be more cost-effective to just take your car to a mechanic and have the job done, rather than buying all the tools... Anyway, the last time I had to buy Timeserts, I got them from the local Wurth sales rep. I was able to buy just the inserts, in packs of 5 or 10, so it wasn't too bad. You might want to give Wurth a call, and see if they can point you to a sales rep in your area. On several recent occasions, I've rolled over some fairly rough pavement at the same time I've been coming to a stop. The left front wheel starts to roll over the bumps, the ABS appears to activate causing the whole suspension and strut assembly to rapidly oscilate up and down. Releasing the break stops it imediately. Time for new struts or is something else going on? I confirmed that last night. I called Bav. Auto and they don't even carry a temp sender unit for water. Instead I am going to just use the gauge for oil temp. The max temp. on the gauge is 250. Is this about right, or is 300 better to have? I imagine the running temp is in the low to mid 200's, at least it is on my E21 M10. Also for the temperature sending unit, the stock one already on the car, I wonder if it would give me an accurate numerical temperature number if I hooked the guage up to it? I forget what my VDO gauges are but that may be OK, I know one is 250 and the other is 300 but I forget if the 300 one is oil temp or water temp. > Also for the temperature sending unit, the stock one already on the > car, I > wonder if it would give me an accurate numerical temperature number > if I hooked the guage up to it? You need the appropriate VDO sender I believe. See Marco's post with a link to egauges, that's your solution. Carlos. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? I think the vdo warning comes on around 29psi. You might also want to check to see if the knock sensor is properly torqued. Does your car burn oil, maybe carbon build up on the top of the pistons. Why not just run race gas all the time. :-) I know, hardly the serious answer you were looking for. However, locally in the SF Bay Area, the difference between the hamster piss California premium and 100 octane gas is now just over/under a buck a gallon at my local 76. At the beginning of the year 100 octane gas was more than double the cost of premium at the same station. -- Rex Tener [EMAIL PROTECTED] Search the ARCHIVES:http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] __________________________________________________________________________ In memory of Michel Potheau - friend, enthusiast, founder of the BMW CCA.
