Hi,

Check out my quick review at:

http://ziv.tzo.com/e90

I had an E46 330Ci for almost 5 years. The E90 is better in EVERY respect
(maybe except for looks :-) ). If you read all the magazine reviews, that
compare it to the Lexus and Infiniti, everyone agrees that it dominates the
class, by far, and that nothing can touch it. It's an incredible car.

I understand that we won't get a sense of longer term longevity, but I was
thinking of comments along the lines of...

- The Run flat tires have been annoying items on other cars that you should
think of opting out of if you can.
- Don't bother with the factory stereo upgrade.

My wishful thinking:
- They've finally done away with the factory plastic necked radiator, which
should help.
- They've made some tweaks to the latest instance of IDrive in this new car
and its worth buying

Just doing a quick survey to see if there were any initial data points. I
realize I need to wait for Consumer Reports to REALLY understand how good
this car is ;^)

AIM at Infineon (Sears Point to us) carries Toyo RA-1s, I don't know
if they have the T1-Rs. I also don't know if they ship. But they
will shave your tires to either 4/32" or 6/32".

All in the interest of chassis stiffness. Also good for crash safety. The
E90 is wider and taller than an E34, but a few inches shorter.

IIRC, Paer Jannsen ran them for about 7k miles on his
M6 with some track days thrown in. He switched back to
street tires after that. On a real light car, like a
Miata or E30, I bet you could get 10k+ if you rotated
them. Real easy way to get good skidpad numbers.

might be worth checking for wear on the carbon band in the Air Flow

No I actually picked the car up, put it on my trailer and am now vacationing

So, I've not done a thing...except buy the car. When I get home with the
car, I'll get busy with checking things over. Thanks for the suggestion on
the gasket. Easy to check for sure!

TD,
Thanks for all the possible issues. I will go through each one when I get
the car home to my garage. I was hoping it was the gas cap issue, but once I
drove the car and smelled the fumes...I know it's more than the gas cap.
Thanks again for your help.

Need to find a nice, well cared for M3 for my brother. Miles don't matter,
as long as it is a good car. Any year E36 M3 will do, has to be a stick, has
to have a roof. Sedan or coupe, both are fine. Please email me if you have
one or know of one for sale.

3.15, limited slip.

If you don't believe me, have someone from BMW double check OE, use a VIN of
WBABF3327REF45411 as one from a 1994 325is M-Technic.

Hi,

I am having some difficulty removing the transmission from a 94 E36
convertible. I have removed 4 - 12 mm bolts, 2 - 10 mm bolts with nuts
(starter), 3 - 8 mm bolts and one 6 mm bolt. That is 10 total bolts.
The trans will separate about 1/2 inch at the bottom but appears solid
at the top. It is friggin impossible to reach around the top, but I am
fairly certain that this is all the bolts. The Bentley shows 11, but I
think ETK is showing 10. Can someone please help confirm if I have all
the bolts out. What else could be causing the tranny to not want to
back away from the engine. Thanks for any suggestions. I am desparate
for advice!

If I remember correctly, there are 5 M12 bolts that you have to remove, not
4, so you probably missed the one at the very top. I find that tilting the
tranny down a little by removing the tranny brace and jacking up the front
of the engine gives you a little more space to get to the bolts above the
tranny. Also, with the tranny tilted, you can stick your head up in the
tranny tunnel and look for the bolt that you missed.

Hope this helps,

Jim Ochi

there's a 10mm bolt from the trans plate into the trans. stand under the
engine and look back toward the trans, passenger side.
