I'm running a pair of recaro SRD seats in my car, and didn't think much about
the airbag light being on (telling me that the passenger airbag is disabled)
because I rarely have a passenger in this car. Just went through annual
inspection, and was failed for having the light on, so I'm going to have to
re-install the stock seat and reset the light in the next 10 days to pass for
the year. I'll probably pick up on Neil Simon's led and put a sensor pad in
the passenger SRD.

Subject: <e39> AC drains still not draining
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I tore a little further into the car today to find the problem with AC
condensate not draining properly.

to recap:
 1) snaked flexi-wire up drain tubes from below, no change
 2) blew low pressure air up drain tubes, no change
 3) sucked on drain tubes with shop vac, a few drops appeared, but no
change in behavior.
 4) blew high pressure air up drain tubes, in hopes of exploding the
car, no change.
 5) talked to BMW service dept, they said they would open AC unit from
inside the car and blow drains out from inside. I removed the carpeted
trim panel from the center console (1 screw per side, easy) and found
what amounts to a tiny toilet bowl on each side of the unit. The
condensate drains out the side and falls into the bowl which is
connected to the rubber drain tube. The covers of these bowls can be
removed. I blew air into the unit and down the drain tubes as best I
could without having a right-angle blowgun.
Noticed that in addition to water filling the center rear vent and
blowing out onto the carpet, the passenger side carpet is soaked as
well. I hope it's just a side effect of high water levels in the ducts,
and not something more sinister.
I'm kinda cheesed off about the whole thing, partly because a friend
didn't have any more problems once he blew a little air up the drain
tubes when this happened to him, and partly because the carpet is all
wet and starting to smell. And as it appears, carpet is the very first
thing to be installed upon interior assembly and is partially held down
by every other thing inside the car.

On the upside, today is the very last day of summer in Michigan, and
the whole damn thing will be a block of ice for the next 8 months and I
can forget about it.
 Thanks for reading.

Correct, although it does take a bit of wiggling (swearing seems to help
too :-)).

Also, there's a 2nd bulb for this indicator inside the cluster, that you
can't remove. But you can cut the purple wire to extinguish it as well.
BTDT on the 325is race car. YMMV, no warranty expressed or implied
regarding your M3 :-)

Andrew,

Don't try to do a drive-shaft on the cheap. Buy a rebuilt unit from a
reputable shop specializing in drive-shaft service. Balancing the shaft,
after installing new bearings, is vital and nontrivial. Balancing a DS is
not a task I would trust to a "we specialize in everything" shop.

I can give Portland Drive Lines Service in Portland a recommendation.

It is highly improbable that either a failed flex disc or a failed centre
bearing is the root cause of the vib problem. However, both should be
replaced with a new/rebuilt DS. In general, a failed centre bearing is
caused by a defective shaft.

Andrew,

After writing my first reply, I got to thinking that you might also want to
check the motor and transmission mounts.
How many miles on the car? How many since the last mount(s) replacement?

I am looking to replace the driver and passenger seats in my '91 535. Does
anyone have any experience with this? What to go with, Recaro, Sparco,
Corbeau? I would even consider factory "sport seats". The car has factory
"comfort" seats now that were trashed when I bought the car four years ago.
I did the leatherique rejuvenator - redye but now they have many rips and
holes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi John.

Try Bobby Thrash of Strictly German (Braselton, GA & Grover, NC). SG
sold a set of 540i/6 sport seats on eBay last (?) week for something
around $500.

One thing to remember when installing this type of seat (or any
E32/E34 memory seat, for that matter) is that the memory module
requires a memory wiring harness, and the seats won't move without
either of the aforementioned elements. Not a difficult proposition,
but another item to consider. My writeup on converting my non-memory
10/89 535 to memory seats/mirrors/column is in progress, hopefully to
be published on bmw4life.com in the near future.

I had similar longevity issues with leatherique.

Best, Whit

Before the snow snoweth and the ice cometh I haveth a pair (That's TWO
folks !!) of Volvo spoked wheels for sale .
So if you knownian any Volvonian ownian folk you might to please
mentionian them ....Price is $30 plus pack/ship from zip 38478. I can
digi the pics if u r serious .They are quite hefty so shipping needs to
be a consideration
They are 25 spoke (5 doubl-spoke and 15 single-spoke ),apparently made
one each in Norway and Germany due to the 'Norway 7470' cast into a
spoke and Germany 6040(?) on the other. VERY straight..truly NOT a
single scrape on either rim . There seems to be a deteriorated clear
coat on the machined part but cant be sure. The rest is painted grey
Other marks include 5.5Jx14x20 and 1272200.
Being Volvonian they are 5-bolt
Make a great pair for snowtahrs ..cheaper than a mount/dismount.

They will be featured in a Garage sale in my yard this sat..so don’t
delay they may go'way ...

Also have one JEEP alloy ...$20
