Agreed, but what are the alternatives?? Haynes? I don't think so.

Not exactly, many of the pumps the last few years are back to being some
form of composite/plastic. But, this later version of plastic is
purportedly more robust than the plastic water pump issue years ago.

I have the Bentley, Haynes and Chilton. Sometimes it takes all three to
make sense out of a particular task.

By far the Bentley is the best. Especially the electrical diagrams. Very
helpful recently when I was putting the engine back in the car and I was
trying to figure out what connect went to which sensor. That will teach me
to not label them on disassembly.

re: the h2o pump. I didn't know that. Go figger. the last one I just
bought for the race car was metal.

cheers

Marco

Be advised that you could either spend stupid money on
crappy 20-year-old tire technology, or get a set of 15"
alloy take-offs from an E32 or E34 and a decent set of
Yokohamas for the same total.

For your chosen size, closest I could find was:
http://www.cokertire.com/store/customer/search.php?tire_size=240%2F55VR415&in_category=108

At that price, you could buy a set of new BBS alloys and
tires. If you insist on spending the money on crappy TRX
tires, please do yourself a favor and be gentle in
inclement weather. Tires have come a long way in the
intervening decades. If this is for show-car originality,
then just show on 'em and don't drive on 'em.

The TRX has a different bead configuration, but nothing about that design
limits the adoption of modern tread compounds and belt construction.

Of course, Coker is not about technology.

The Tire Rack seems to have them...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=240%2F&ratio=45&diameter=415&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&RunFlat=All&x=68&y=10

But for the price they're selling, with a little shopping you could
buy a conventional-size set of wheels and tires for not much more than
a set of TRX tires alone.

Ben,

Start with the 6er group: http://www.normgrills.net/bcg/. Every now and
then someone buys TRX tires instead of upgrading and announces the purchase
to the group. Check the archives.

Were those TRX tires always that expensive? I was looking on that coker
website and couldn't believe my eyes. I think back when I got a set for my
535is they were $120 a piece. Did I see a $280 price listed? Good lord.

The battery is becoming a bit weak in the key remote to my 1999 740i Sport.
Upon initial examination, I did not find a quick way to take the key apart
to check and see what type of battery I need to purchase to replace the weak
battery.

What type of battery do I need to purchase?
Where can I buy one?
How do I replace the weak battery?

Thanks in advance,

Dean

I have seen hand held devices that can adjust mileage for just about every
digital speedometer out there. I have also seen used BMW's that surely had
their mileage adjusted given the stated mileage and condition of the car
overall.

If the car is new enough to be considered for warranty, a carfax and dealer
check would be a good idea, even though carfax is spotty at best.

The original post was a query about the best method to remove that
stubborn brake dust left by some track pads after the dust has gotten
wet and turned crusty.

Like several others have mentioned, I found that a *fresh* coat of
polish applied before the event aided removal tremendously. However, I
have no good solution for removing it once it's there. I still have
some spots left by the Hawk Blues several years ago.

I was going to report on how my wheels cleaned this time. The pads are
Carbotech and I had been using them on the street for at least a month
prior to the event. I did not clean any of the dust off prior to the
event. It rained during the second day and I didn't attempt to clean
the wheels until last night (Monday). No problemo; the dust came off
like regular dirt; didn't even require hard scrubbing.

Sorry about the OT, but it sounds like there are a fair number of
people on this list that attended RA this past weekend. Here are a
few pictures I took:

If anyone would like high resultution images, just let me know what
the filenames are. I have them in 3008 x 2000 Nikon RAW format but
can save them as anything you can use.

Dave,

Enjoy the car, sounds like a beauty.

1. I think it's worth the bucks even though I've really only used it for
cross-reference/sanity check purposes. The best part about this car is all
the nuts like us who own them. I've had amazing luck just Googling problems
as I've hit them. More often than not you'll find a multi-page detailed
write-up with color photos that someone was nice enough to put together.
Failing that, often times list archives will have your answer. When that
doesn't work, you'll almost always get a bunch of great responses from one
of the applicable e-mail lists or web forums. I could be wrong, but I don't
think you can get this kind of support for a Lincoln...

2. What they said. I can't.

I am going to be taking delivery of a pristine '95 M3 in the next few
days and I have a couple of questions.

1: Is the Bentley E36 book the manual to get? Looks like it might be the
only game in town...

2: Can a plastic impeller H20 pump be identified without removing the
pump from the car?

Thanks,
