Are they a good solution for H&R springs and Koni SA's to bring the camber further in or can you go with stock strut bearings and simply re-align toe to spec? I had them on my car for 10,000 miles with stock shocks & springs and both sides failed. I lifted the car up to change the brakes before a track session and both struts dropped out of the strut hats. The parts that mounted to the car stayed attached with the car and the struts pulled out of the polyurethane. I contacted KMAC and never got a response. I have pictures if anyone wants to see them. It was only 3 miles from my house. The deer broke both right legs, dragged himself off the road and down a 10ft sloop, and was still very much alive. There was a house nearby, and the owner had a gun shop in his garage and the sign in the front yard had his phone number. So, I called the guy from my cell and asked if he'd come shoot this deer. Five minutes later, here he came down the road on his LAWN MOWER and a 9mm holstered. He was a heavyset old fella, and recently had had heart surgery, so he needed help getting around. It's his all-terrain wheelchair! So here's the scene - it's 8:30 in the morning, light rain and foggy, I'm standing on the shoulder of the 2 lane highway with a steady flow of traffic, heavily wooded on both sides, next to a man on a riding lawn mower pointing a 9mm pistol at a bellowing 7 point buck lying in the grass. ... you might be a redneck when .... So he pops the deer in the head, holsters the 9mm just as a sheriff's deputy pulls up. (I think discharging a firearm on or near a highway is like a federal offense, so now I'm expecting to see ATF black helicopters to appear over the tree tops). The deputy waddles up the lawnmower man, takes a look at the deer, asks who I am, then THANKS the lawnmower man for putting it down! He said he hates that job. So while I fill out the paperwork in the cop car, a deer hunter friend I called earlier pulls up in his pickup. We pulled the deer into his truck bed, drove to my house and gutted it the backyard. The body shop I used re-sprays and blends one panel on either side of each panel that they replaced/re-painted. After the re-paint I could see the difference between the repainted panels so I went over the entire car with an orbital buffer using this stuff: http://www.topoftheline.com/hitligcutswi.html and then applied a couple of coats of: http://www.topoftheline.com/klasalseal.html The results are truly remarkable, all of the body panels now look fantastic, the paint all looks new. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Nov 2005 00:39:17 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Subject: E36 ABS Error Code 17 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had the same problem on a '95 M3 and replaced the ABS pump w/ a used unit. It fixed the problem. Now on my '99 M3 I have what appears to be the same problem except the dash light comes and goes, my first response will be to replace the pump once the lights stay on. So far no error codes, but I'm sure it won't be long. evan '99 M3 Date: Wed, 09 Nov 2005 12:37:13 -0500 From: Matthew Tremmel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: E36 ABS Error Code 17 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I agree with Ed if the control unit AND pump are bad, replace them both. But it may only be the wiring to the solenoid and not the solenoid itself. You can use the Bentley and a ohm meter to narrow it down. In my case, the problem was the filament wiring inside the pump. I replaced the wiring (pain to do) and it has been fine since. The only problem with getting a used pump is you might have the same problem again as these pumps are notorious for failing due to the filament wiring cracking from age and exposure to brake fluid. There are some posts on www.bimmerforums.com that archive my experience with this. Look for the E36 DIY sticky, and then E36 ABS Repair. Regards, Matt /Been there on a 1996 328i without ASC. I had the exact same code. Went to two online parts dismantlers, Zionsville for one part, Vines for the other. Around $250 together. Solenoid goes out in the pump and takes control unit with it. $3200 at the dealer. If you just replace the control unit, first application of the ABS takes out new control unit. If you just replace the pump, the control unit output transistors are still bad and it won't clear codes or actuate. Drove out the tank, put in about half a bottle of Redline SL1. Light stayed on for the whole tank. Next fillup did not get SL1 added. CE stayed on. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar? At 118k miles, this time, it was the O2 sensors finally gone bad. With 'Jack up on the ramps for an oil change, as the oil dripped out, and the UUC Viper Intake System sitting drying from its first good washing, I decided to replace the front O2 sensors too. (the new UUC airbox setup gave SAE 5hp and lbs/torque over my previous setup, from 230/227 upto 235/232 and flattened out the unevenness in the air/fuel curve. I will bring before and after dyno charts showing this to this Saturday's Bavarian Motor Meekend in Fremont). With the new sensors, drove a few miles and the CE went out. Has stayed out during a few more drizzly drives. Subjectively, the butt dyno says a bit better throttle response and midrange, will wait for the next trip to a real dyno to see if the new O2 sensors any real improvement. Also, the original sensors came out easily, they were in barely more than finger tight. It runs great, the only thing is when idling, the rpms periodically (every 45 seconds to 1 minute or so) drop from about 7-800 to below 500, but immediately come back up. Is this normal? Regards, Rich ============================= All - For those who don't know, Scott Miller had a heart attack Tuesday morning. He is getting better, due to leave the ICU today and go home tomorrow (Saturday). His wife Charlotte is delivering get-well emails - send them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] BUT DO NOT FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!! Because... I'm gathering funds from another list Scott and I are active on. C says if we can raise enough money ($2-3k), painting his peeling car would be a fabulous thing to do. If not, we'll give him the cash stipulating that it's either for something absolutely necessary or absolutely frivolous (like swaybars <g>). If you'd like to contribute to this fund, paypal pseudo-cash to dlsspm at gmail dot com, subject "scott-uuc". Be sure to classify the payment as "Service" or "Cash".
