Turns out the story wasn't quite like that:

Do the underdrive pulley's have an significant impact to the tuning of the
stock harmonic balancer? It would seem that any change of coupled harmonics
would be damped considerably by the belts. Maybe Neil can weigh in.
Thinking when I need to replace the radiator to also replace the pulley's
and use the Stewart water pump.

No need, the crank pulley isn't underdriven.

At least on my car I've had one instructor think I had a ltw flywheel
when I don't. Car makes more power than I expected with the usual
bolt on stuff and underdrive pulleys.

Can't comment on the Underdrive pullies.

I'd go with the Stewart pump if/when you are replacing the cooling
components. I'd also go with an all aluminum rad. if your replacing
it.

There are two types of pulleys commonly referred to as "underdrive pulleys".

The first type is a single pulley that replaces the crank pulley. At the
same time, because it's all one piece, it removes the harmonic damper. As
representatives from BMW NA described in the last CCA meeting at NA HQ,
you'd have to be a fool to use such a part. That's a rough paraphrasing,
but connotes the clear signals of the statement. Removing the harmonic
damper, as happens with an underdrive crank pulley, is a very big risk to
crankshaft integrity from secondary harmonics causing cracks and failure, an
effect documented on street and racecars that see frequent high rpm (why
would you own a BMW unless you are going to see frequent high rpm? ). Dinan
has a very good "white paper" on the subject:

http://www.dinancars.com/whitepapersFile.asp?ID=5

The second type of pulley is actually a set of accessory pulleys. This
leaves the crank pulley alone, but changes the size of the individual
pulleys on the water pump and power steering pump. Some companies offer an
underdrive alternator pulley, but that's effectively worthless as the
voltage regulator compensates and creates as much draw load as it wants.
These underdrive accessory pulleys do not affect the harmonic damper
whatsoever and can be used safely in any situation, including with a
lightweight flywheel.

I have discovered a key blank, and don't know what it is for. (2002?) Blank
says BMW BM3 on one side and some manufacturer info on the other. Anyone
know what it is for? How much it is worth?

Anyone have experience with the Dinan wheels (Fikse FM/5 type)?
If so , do they have a tendency to leak?
I tightened the valve stems but they still steadily loose air on both
fronts. The tires are fairly new.
I figure the fasteners which attach the rim to the center sections must be
leaking.
