Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your
day’s going well and that you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Last night we were talking about a variety of subjects including Christine
Hamilton on sausages and the future of David Davis. How the two things can be
included in one interview I don’t know! And we were also talking to the dog
whisperer, Jan Fennell. Tonight on the programme, as well as all the day’s
news, we’ll be examining the policy of putting condom machines in schools and
we’ll be looking at the popularity of scampi over the ages, followed up by a
chat with tv chef Rachel Green. So I hope you can join me then!

Letters

Just a few things to mention from the emails. I’ve had quite a few today. From
Doreen and Brian Hampshire, “Can you please wish myself and my husband a happy
42nd wedding anniversary for Wednesday 26th October. (Yes we are still
together!)” Doreen and Brian – all the very best and a very happy 42nd wedding
anniversary. I hope you have a great day.

And a note here from Margaret, she says, “now that November the fifth is
getting closer I write regarding the animals, who are terrified by the loud
bangs associated with it. It’s alright publicising keeping your animals in on
the fifth of November, but what about the days prior to and after the event.
Where I live, bangers have been going off every night for two weeks and will
probably continue to do so until after the New Year. That is if the last few
years are anything to go by.” So some important words there for animal lovers
from Margaret.
Margaret – thank you very much indeed for that.

And a note here, this one comes from Gemma, “I read in your news letter
yesterday…” I was talking about epidurals yesterday. “I’ve just read about
women, who have the epidural, who suffer more complications than when they
don’t. I’ve got two children and I had the epidural with both my kids and
labour was quick and easy and for my first labour, it actually saved my life. I
would recommend it to anyone else.”

So there you are just a few of the emails in this morning, so thank you for
those.

Bullying

I see that bullying at work is responsible for thousands of heart attacks every
year. A study of more than six thousand civil servants found that those who
received unfair treatment in the office were 40% more likely to develop heart
disease. Given the size of the study, and given the fact that there are now
more than two thousand heart disease deaths a year, the findings were extremely
significant according to the British Heart Foundation, which sponsored the
study. This shows that too much stress can cause ill health and is maybe a
trigger for heart problems. So that’s on the study of bullying in the office
and its relation to heart attacks.
