Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to the start of another week and another
Levy Letter. I hope your weekend was good! Whatever you got up to, then I hope
it went well. Yesterday was certainly a very beautiful day. It’s the start of
another week, so I hope you’re going to join me tonight, BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Before I talk about tonight, just a reminder, that on Thursday I was talking to
Aled Jones. Aled has got a new album out today and he’s also got a huge number
of dates for his big tour, all throughout October, November and December and
the first of his tour dates is this Friday in Grimsby. That’s the 21st October.
Nice chap, so all the very best to Aled Jones.

Talking of showbiz, a couple of emails here from June – “Will we be seeing you
on Strictly Come Dancing Peter?”…yeah yeah yeah not with my two left feet! I
think this has come about because Bill Turnbull, a BBC news presenter, is on
Strictly Come Dancing. He says he’s never danced before and he too is fifty.
But he probably hasn’t got two left feet! Strictly Come Dancing was back at the
weekend.

Tonight on the programme at half past six, as well as all the day’s news, we’ll
be talking about that singing legend Eva Cassidy. There is a tribute show to
Eva and I shall be talking to the lady who plays Eva Cassidy tonight at the
usual time on BBC1, 6.30pm if you can join me then.

Dadzone

I had a letter from Steve Smith, who’s the chairperson of Dadzone. Let me just
read it to you, it’s sort of self-explanatory. “I’m writing to you, Peter, on
behalf of a brand new group, which has recently established, called Dadzone.
We’ve set up a group to offer support to Dads and also male carers on the
Longhill and Bilton Grange estates. In support, we offer help with gardening,
DIY, amongst other things. We organise coffee mornings and also a social
evening once a week at the Acorns Community Centre on Bilton Grange. We would
very much appreciate it if you could give our group a mention and include it in
the Levy Letter. We have an address set up that you can give out on behalf of
us if you choose to give us a mention. It’s called [EMAIL PROTECTED] So if
you’re a Dad or a male carer on the Longhill or Bilton Grange estate then do
get in touch with the group. It sounds excellent. Recently established, so good
luck to Steve Smith with that one.

The Voice of Wallace

About three years ago, as you may or may not know, I had a small part in Last
of the Summer Wine. It was hugely exciting to go along to the filming, but one
of the most exciting things for me was meeting Peter Sallis. Peter, of course
then, was eighty-one when I met him three years ago doing Last of the Summer
Wine. He’s been an actor all of his life and is hugely talented, but of course
now he’s the voice of Wallace and Gromit and now once again they’re right up
there at the top with their Hollywood success. And Peter Sallis is eighty-four
now and he has been celebrating the success of the film and what I hadn’t
realised was that he’s been working with Nick Park for twenty-two years on
Wallace and Gromit! But a wonderful actor so well done to Peter Sallis.

Joss Stone

I’ve had several requests to get Joss Stone on the programme. Well if she comes
to our region, or if she’s doing a tour in our area, we will certainly try and
get her. She’s hugely popular of course – the eighteen year old singer with her
trademark husky voice and barefoot stage performances. I’ve just been reading
as well that she’s worth around, bear in mind that she’s only eighteen, she’s
worth a fortune now of £4.5 million pounds. She’s also just bought herself a
house. She could of course have anything she wanted, but she’s actually bought
herself a modest terraced house near her family home in Devon for £195,000 even
though she’s worth £4.5 million pounds already at eighteen!

Addiction

I suppose we all have an addiction to something at some point in our lives, of
course this can be more serious for some people than for others. For the stars
of course, if they’ve got an addiction to drink or to drugs, then they check
into the famous Priory. Well now the clinic is treating people who are actually
hooked on the internet auction site, ebay! Apparently it’s becoming very
addictive and if you have a problem with that then you know where to go. The
Priory apparently will sort you out!

Pictures

Don’t forget to keep those pictures and photographs coming in to me for the Big
Screen on the programme. If you’ve got a photograph that you think is good of a
local scene or view then send it to me: either a hard copy in the post to BBC
Look North Photographs, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH or email it
to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Leave it to Levy

And also another reminder if you’ve got a problem or an issue that you think we
may be able to help out with on the programme then give me the details and let
me know what the issue is with the full story and I’ll see what I can do. Also
if you could send me a contact telephone number that would be good also. Send
your story to the usual address, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Les Mis

I was listening last night to Jonathan and Marcus doing Westenders. Of course,
it’s always a great listen if you’re in the BBC Radio Humberside area with
songs from the shows on a Sunday evening. (Lovely music to do the ironing by!)
And I see from the paper as well that Les Miserables is twenty years old. And
there’s one story in the paper about Jayne O’Mahony. Jayne was the first
Cosette when the show first opened - a little nine year old, who played the
part of Cosette. Well, she’s now twenty-nine and has just gone back to a
special anniversary performance. But Les Mis has been running, and is still
running in the West End for twenty years!

Christmas Lights

An email here, this one comes from Leslie Pounder. Thank you Leslie. It says –
“Have you been around Leeds lately? They’re putting their Christmas Lights up
already! Do you think it’s a bit early for all that? What will the people
reading the Levy Letter think?” Well let us know… is it too early for Christmas
Lights? I’m sure it’s going to happen here any day now. But Leslie, thank you
very much indeed for your email.

Birthdays

One final mention today goes to, what must be the furthest birthday greeting
we’ve given out so far on the Levy Letter! I had an email from David Cornwall,
who writes – “It’s my son’s 21st birthday on Monday, any chance you could
mention it in the Levy Letter?” Well these birthday greetings are being sent
all the way to Cumbria where David and his son are living, so happy birthday!

Well that’s all from the Levy Letter for today. Join me tonight on BBC1 at
6.30pm and look out for your next Levy Letter tomorrow round about the same
time. Have a good day!

Peter
