Hello, it’s Peter here. I hope your weekend was good. Welcome to the start of
another week and welcome to today’s Levy Letter on Monday 31st October and
happy Halloween! I see that if you’re in Cornwall, then you’re three times more
likely (and it’s a good job I didn’t know this when I was in school!), but in
Cornwall, you’re three times more likely to see a ghost and twice as likely to
spot a UFO than anywhere else! Anyway, it’s Halloween today…happy Halloween to
you! I hope you can join me tonight at the usual time, 6.30pm on BBC1. No doubt
we’ll have something to mark Halloween on the programme and we’ll be talking to
someone else a bit scary, Syd Little, one half of Little and Large! So join me
if you can.

Eastenders

Well, Eastenders seems to go up and down, doesn’t it, like a rollercoaster.
It’s on a high at the moment, and the hard man of Eastenders, the actor Ross
Kemp will return to the soap next year for a third stint, playing of course
mean and moody Grant Mitchell. He came back for the second time and the figures
have leapt up. He stormed back into Albert Square on Monday night with the
line… “ello Mum!” He added three million viewers. BBC bosses now, I read, are
hoping that another four month spell of filming from January with screen mum
Peggy Mitchell, played of course by Barbara Windsor and Phil Mitchell played by
Steve McFadden, will keep fans hooked. So there you are Eastenders doing very
well in the ratings at the moment.

And talking of ratings, but on the radio now, the injection of a love triangle
storyline into The Archers has helped Radio 4’s soap about farm life to go
right to the top. The long running serial recently recorded its highest
lunchtime audience of 2.4 million, the latest figures show. And overall, the
figures show it at 4.5 million, the highest since January 2003. So there you
are, good news if you are a listener to The Archers. I have to say that it
isn’t something I’ve really got into, but there is now a very glamorous woman
in it, who’s getting all the publicity, Felicity Jones. Felicity plays Emma in
The Archers. Anyway, if you’re a listener to The Archers, then it’s good news
for them at the moment.

Christmas Story Line

Now then, Kingston Communications will be launching their annual Christmas
Story Line for children. It’s been running since 1952 and was the first service
of its kind in the UK. It offers a telephone service, which runs in the week up
to Christmas, where children can phone up and hear a different Christmas story
every day. This year they’re launching a competition inviting people to write
their own Christmas story. The winners will have their story recorded and used
on the story line this Christmas. So if you’re in the Christmas spirit already
and are feeling a bit creative then put pen to paper and write a little
Christmas story for children. This year, all the proceeds from this Christmas
Story Line are going to a very worthy cause – CLIC-Sargent, which supports
children with cancer. So I hope you can help with that one.

Couples Too Busy To Talk

It’s sad isn’t it, but millions of couples are now so busy with their daily
lives that they often don’t have time to speak to each other for a whole week,
research shows! Experts are warning that they’re putting their relationships at
risk by not spending enough quality time together. Despite constant talk of
work/life balance, a study of many working adults and co-habiting adults, show
that commitments in the office are becoming such a burden on their
relationships that one in five of couples will regularly go a whole week
without any quality time together. There you are, you may be putting your
relationship at risk! If that’s applicable to anyone reading the Levy Letter,
then I would be grateful if you could drop me a line to see if that’s the case
- whether you go a whole week without talking to each other.

Calendar

As you know, we launched the BBC Look North calendar at the end of last week,
and we’re trying to raise as much money as we can for Children in Need. If you
want to pop into one of our receptions, either at BBC Radio Lincolnshire or to
the Radio Lincolnshire bus, to the Grimsby reception, or to the BBC Radio
Humberside bus on its various travels across the region and buy your calendar.
They’re also available in the BBC Open Centre in Hull. They are £5 for Children
In Need. If you want to send me a cheque, make it payable to the BBC for £6 to
cover postage and packing. Of course, we’re hoping to raise as much money as
possible for Children In Need and I’ll give you details, just after Christmas,
of how much money we raised from the sale of the calendar. So look out for it!

Leave it to Levy

Don’t forget if you’ve got a problem that you think we might be able to take on
in the programme and sort out for you, then send me the details and also a
telephone number if you’ve got one. Drop me a line, either to the BBC, Queens
Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH or you can get me direct on email at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that’s all for today. Have a good Monday and have a happy Halloween! Join
me tonight for all the day’s news. Paul will have the weather. Join me tonight,
BBC1 at 6.30pm! See you there.

Bye for now

Peter
