Hello its Peter here, Welcome to Tuesdays Levy Letter, hope your day is going well, hope your Halloween was good and hope youll be able to join me tonight BBC 1, 6:30.
Remember last week we were talking to Des Lynam on the programme, he of course was taking over from Richard Whitely on countdown. Well Dess first show was on last night and it seems to have gone down extremely well with the press and also with the viewers and those people who I was with yesterday afternoon who were watching seemed to think it went well. So good luck to Des, a very hard act to follow in the shoes of the legendary, and what a lovely man, Richard Whitely. Anyway best of luck to Des Tonight BBC 1, all the days news and also special guest tonight is Toyah Wilcox. Toyah is on her way to Stamford, I shall be doing a question and answer, and I shall be talking to her about that. And also hopefully about her cosmetic surgery as well, her face lift, which shes written about so thats Toyah Wilcox tonight at 6:30, join me then. Next headline is missing children, a staggering report out today shows that a child goes missing in Britain every five minutes and one hundred thousand children disappear every year says the study by the charity Parents and Abducted Children Together. It warns that the figures, based on this report, may even be an underestimate because there are no reliable statistics on the issue. The charity is pressing the government to set up a department within the home office to centralise information on missing children. That figure is staggering isnt it? ... a child goes missing in Britain every five minutes according to that report which is out today. Next headline is birthdays dont forget if youve got a birthday coming up in the near future or somebody you know has and they get a Levy Letter (or if they dont get them to sign up for a Levy letter) and you want a mention in the letter then give me the details of course you can write to me about that or indeed anything else, get me direct at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Next headline is Christmas cancelled. More and more bosses are cancelling Christmas parties because of rising costs and also fears that theyll lead to compensation claims by staff. Have you ever heard of anything so crazy in all your life? Up to 80% of employers will not organise a company party this year apparently it seems that when theres a party theres always trouble and arguments among staff. 90% said there was always a complaint of harassment after the event. Alcohol and high spirits lead to injuries to staff and claims of harassment. Two thirds of employers said they had sacked a member of staff because of their behaviour at a Christmas party. These are the factors (and the spiralling costs) that make them axe the annual Christmas party. Do you have a firm or do you work for a firm where theyve had no Christmas party, or they do have a Christmas party, your views on that one gratefully received. Next headline is older generation. Sad story as well today about the number of pensioners in the country becoming increasingly isolated, with many seeing their children less than twice a year, the study has revealed. This is a little bit close to my heart this one one and a half million people see their family less than once a month, although six hundred and three thousand have contact less than once every three months and around one hundred and twenty eight thousand people spend time with their children less than once a year. Some sad statistics for those of us that have family several hundred miles away, we need to make the effort more. Next headline is Les Dawson, one of our great comic geniuses, Les Dawson died at the young age of fifty nine, he only recently got married to Tracy. Over the years Ive interviewed Les several times and got to know him reasonably well and also Tracy his wife, he was a really lovely lovely man, very very genuine. Pleased to see in all the papers, yesterday I think it was, that his daughter Charlotte whos now thirteen looks to be following her fathers footsteps, with a great sense of humour and also the playing of the piano as well. She presented a comedy award to Jonny Vegas. Its an award affectionately know as The Les, it was one of the highlights of the awards for comedy achievement. So, Charlotte is continuing the family tradition including panto a Barrow in Furness this year. Shes already a very pretty girl and I recon shes got a great future ahead of her. So good luck to Charlotte, she was only eight months old when Les died from a heart attack. So, we wish her an! d also Tracy all the very best, a very lovely family. Next headline is pictures.
