Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well. I hope you can join me tonight, BBC1 at 6.30pm for all the day’s
news and also the little man will have the weather forecast. Also tonight, I’ll
be talking to one of the stars of Spooks, who’s in Hull at the moment. We’ll be
finding out why. So join me tonight at the usual time.

Local Music

There’s an email here from Christine Tuton and she’s asking for a little bit of
a plug on the local music scene, which is fine. She says, “Dear Peter, I’ve
heard that you’re always on the look out for local talent…” (There is a little
bit in brackets there, which I won’t read out!!) “I’d thought I’d mention that
the Cox Brothers are gigging at the Tap and Spile Pub on Springbank on
Thursday. They’re regulars on the local music scene and doing very well
indeed.” So if you want to get along to the Tap and Spile on the 20th October,
starting roundabout 9.15pm.

Also a note here, this one is from Fiona and David Scruton – “Our family are
all big fans of the Levy Letter and I wonder if you could give a mention to our
son Oliver. We’re very proud of Oliver Thomas Scruton, who is the big 7 on
Saturday 22nd October. He’s an excellent reader and would love to see his name
in the Levy Letter. So we hope you will be able to include him in your birthday
mentions as it will be a super surprise.” Well, no letter of course on a
Saturday, but let’s give him an early mention. Oliver Thomas Scruton – a very
happy birthday for Saturday, when you will be 7. Oliver, thank you very much
indeed and I hope you will continue to watch Look North.

Beauty Sleep

For many generations, women have been encouraged to get their beauty sleep, but
now a new study today suggests that a solid eight hours in bed each night is
more important for the mind than it is for the face! So there you, if you’re
not getting your eight hours, don’t stress about it. The people who conducted
the study expected to find a significant development of dark circles around the
eyes and perhaps more redness, but even at the end of the experiment none of
them looked that grossly tired. Not sure that I would fit in with that one.

Yesterday I was talking about those kits that go on sale next year to test
fertility, which cost about £80 weren’t they? Well I read this morning that men
who smoke are significantly less likely to father a child, research has shown.
Two thirds of smokers failed the test to find out whether their sperm had the
normal ability to fertilise an egg. Heavier smokers were more likely to fail
the test. And those who did fail were on average 75% less fertile than
non-smokers. So a little bit extra there on the same theme.

Pictures

Don’t forget to keep your pictures coming in for the Big Screen. We’ve had
plenty this week, but just a reminder that come the end of next week our
Children in Need calendar goes on sale at £5 each with all proceeds going to
Children In Need. I will give you more details of course next week. In the
meantime, if you want to send your pictures in electronically, all of your
digital photos for the Big Screen, as many views as possible, to the usual
address of course to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Noel Edmonds

Well, after five years away from the television, I read this morning that the
fifty-six year old television presenter, Noel Edmonds, once Britain’s highest
paid TV entertainer after five years away is coming back to your screens. He’s
to host a TV game show on Channel4. The programme is called ‘Deal or No Deal’.
Filming will start next month. The game show has twenty-two contestants and
they compete for a top prize of £250,000. It’s already been a hit in forty
countries. And now the veteran Radio One DJ is back on our TV screens. So
that’s Noel Edmonds back, but without Mr Blobby!

Leave it to Levy

Just a reminder, we’re still looking for your problems or issues that we may be
able to solve on the programme. Again, as usual just drop me a line with the
details of your problem and of course include a contact telephone number, email
me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Housework

A new report out tells us just how long we spend in our average life doing
certain jobs. Well, housework takes four years of our life! Three months is
spent sitting in a doctor’s waiting room. This is of course based on an average
life span. Twelve months spent relaxing in the theatre or cinema. Sixteen
months of our lives are spent cleaning, eighteen months of our life is spent
shopping. And these are the interesting ones – watching TV - five years, six
months of our life - working, seven years minus eight weeks of tea breaks! But
the worst one of the lot, twenty-four years and four months of our life – what
do you think that is? That is sleeping! Twenty-four years of our life spent
sleeping and that’s about a quarter of an average person’s life spent in bed!
Well that’s some figures just out, which make for quite interesting reading.

Smokie

Well, I announced the other day about our Smokie competition to win tickets to
go see Smokie perform at Grimsby Auditorium this week. Well we’ve randomly
picked out our winner and she is Julie Worman! So congratulations to Julie! We
hope you enjoy it!

Well that’s it from me for today. Join me tonight BBC1 at 6.30pm and I hope
your day continues to go well!

Take care

Peter
