Hello there, Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your
day’s going well and that you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.
Last night we were talking to the magician, Geoffrey Durham. Tonight, he’s
still riding high after having a resurgence with “Is this the way to Amarillo?”
Tony Christie will be joining me tonight. He’s on the way to the region. He’s
also got a new single out. I’ll be talking to Tony tonight, BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Jungle

I wasn’t going to mention it, but so many people have been emailing me asking
me what I think of I’m A Celebrity. Well, I’ve actually only seen the first
programme. The one where the former Eastenders star spent less than forty-eight
hours in the camp and of course fainted twice and had all that trouble on the
wire. Well, I see from the news today that she was in the show less than
forty-eight hours, but she’s actually negotiated to receive her full fee. She’s
not going back to the jungle by the way, ITV have said she won’t go back, but
she has allegedly negotiated a fee of £65 000, which is a lot more than most of
the contestants. She’s the second highest paid celebrity on the programme. Most
of the other celebrities are getting the standard fee of £25 000. Elaine Lordan
has negotiated a fee of £65 000 allegedly! She was only in the show for
forty-eight hours, so that works out at £1500 an hour! So maybe she’s having
the last laugh! The reason she gets the money is that ITV!
has to pay in full, because the decision for her to leave is theirs and not
hers. She was quite happy to go back. But I think perhaps they knew what was
lined up for her in the show. But anyway, a little bit of jungle talk in there.
Thanks to everyone who’s emailed in on that one.

And I’ve got an email here, “Would it be possible to add this to the Levy
Letter.” This one comes from Liz. “Would it be possible to add this to the
What’s On Guide? The Kingsway, Princes’ Cleethorpes Brass Band are inviting
everyone to a Christmas concert called ‘Bells, Baubles and Brass’. It’s at St
Andrews Church, Mill Road in Cleethorpes at 7.30pm on Friday 9th December. It’s
filled with lots of good music and Christmas entertainment.” So there we are,
get along to that one at St Andrews Church in Cleethorpes. And by the way, the
day before on the 8th December, I’ll be at the Street Life museum in Hull for a
special Christmas carol service. They call it a celebrity carol service. If you
can make it along, then I look forward to seeing you at the museum on Thursday
night, the 8th at 7.30pm.

Sprouts

If you have trouble getting the children or grandchildren to eat sprouts, then
never fear. There is a solution at hand. Growers have produced a purple
version, which they believe will make the vegetable more appealing and
appetising to young ones, especially over Christmas. Originally a mutation of
the kale plant, the purple sprout has slowly been developed and has the same
structure and taste as the green variety. With your eyes closed, you would know
no difference, but with your eyes open, you’ll be surprised to see you’ve got
no greens on your plate, but instead you’ve got purple sprouts for Christmas.
And talking of Christmas. You know these lists of presents you can buy? One of
the most bizarre things you can buy for £10 is a DVD called the “Fantastic
Instant Fireplace”. If like me, you live in a flat and you haven’t got a
fireplace and you haven’t got a cosy fire burning away in the corner, you can
play the DVD and you can have a lovely burning fire on the TV instead! !
Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Sad or what?? Is anyone actually going to buy it?
Or has anyone got an Instant Fireplace DVD? If you have, then we would be
interested to know all about it? Do you all sit around, put the television on
and sit and watch your fire on the TV? You couldn’t make it up could you??

Christmas TV

Just going back to television just for the moment, Ronnie Barker’s last
television show will be broadcast on the BBC over Christmas. The comedian
finished recording the Two Ronnies Christmas Special just months before he died
six weeks ago at the age of 76. The show features many of the pair’s best-loved
sketches from previous festive specials. It will include an interview with
Ronnie Corbett and with a specially-recorded tribute, the comedian will talk
about their partnership, which spans some forty years and ninety-eight shows.
So there you are, the last new materials from Ronnie Barker will be shown on a
special TV programme on BBC1 over Christmas.

Calendar

I don’t want to labour the point, but just a reminder that the BBC Children In
Need Calendar is still available. If you can get down, then you can pick one up
from either of our receptions in Lincoln, Grimsby or Hull. Or from one of our
buses at £5. All the money raised will go to Children In Need and hopefully,
shortly I will be able to have an update for you on just how much money has
been raised by the sale of the calendar. Don’t forget, they’re £5 or if you
want to send me a cheque payable for £6 to the BBC and send it in to BBC Look
North Calendar, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH.

Well, that’s all from me for today. Keep warm! And don’t forget there are
regular updates on the travel and weather situation throughout the day and
particularly at breakfast time and tea time on your local BBC radio station.
BBC Radio Humberside or BBC Radio Lincolnshire are on the air now! Join me
tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. I’ll see you later

Bye for now

Peter
