Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Monday's Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and your weekend was good. The weather doesn't get much better than
that does it? And the rumour is today and tomorrow are going to be even warmer
with temperatures up to around 90. So the hot weather continues. Thanks to
those who came to the Humber Bridge on Friday night for the programme and also
to those who came along and the couple of thousand who took part running the
Sport Relief mile on Saturday. Great to meet loads of people this weekend.
Whatever you did, I hope it was good and you got some sunshine and you had a
good time. Back for the start of another week; join me tonight if you can BBC
One at 6.30pm. All the day's news. We'll have the latest from court where the
former leader of Hull City Council, Colin Inglis, has been found not guilty of
all the sex charges he was facing. And I'll be chatting to the Lincolnshire man
who's getting lay-about youths to change their ways wi!
th 1950s' style army training. We'll be looking at plans to bring café culture
to the streets of Grimsby. Also: mushy or garden?! As the pea harvest gets
under way in our region, we ask the all-important question! Paul will be back
with the forecast after his holiday, BBC One at 6.30pm as usual.

TV

Thanks for even more emails about Ant and Dec's programme, their quiz which is
on the television at the moment. Nobody seems to like that one and I was
reading in the paper this weekend it doesn't seem to be doing too well. I think
it needs to go back to the drawing board for a little bit more refinement. But
thanks for all the emails on that and the other programme which nobody seems to
like, judging by the emails I'm getting, is Love Island. I have to say I
haven't seen this. It's a reality show on ITV. It's their answer to Big Brother
and from reading in the paper at the weekend, a lot of people have written to
me to say they don't like it, some of the actors, well I say actors,
celebrities, have threatened to go on strike not that I suppose that will have
anybody too upset. Matters came to head on the island apparently when
kiss-and-tell girl Alicia Douvall walked out after being told she was one of
three contestants who might be voted off by the other contestants. Perh!
aps they failed to realised the voting off of the contestants is probably the
part of the programme which makes it most appealing. Certainly the Only Fools
On Horses which raised a huge amount of money for Sport Relief, I found
compulsive viewing but the single best bit was where the celebs had to vote off
one of their fellow celebs at the end. I thought they all did really well. I
was expecting Sara Cox to win but she didn't. She was beaten in the end by
Jenni Falconer who won the trophy. And of course, all the money raised from the
phone calls goes to Sport Relief. Anyway, thanks for all the emails on the
subject of TV. If you want to drop me a line on any subject, then it's [EMAIL
PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and any problems you've got as well for
Leave it to Levy.

Neighbours

This time of the year of course, yesterday afternoon I'm sure many people like
me had their neighbours out sitting on the grass or sitting outside drinking or
having disposable BBQs. I see that one in four of us, 25% of everyone in the UK
has problems or issues with their neighbours. It's usually to do with rubbish
or bins or noise or whatever. That's actually a really high figure isn't it?
25% of us apparently have problems with neighbours. And of course a lot of
people would have been at the beach this weekend. I was toying with going to
Fraisthorpe yesterday as it was so beautiful. If you are swimming, huge swarms
of jellyfish, some of them poisonous have been spotted around our coast as the
temperatures rise. They include the Lion's Mane jellyfish, the species with the
most painful sting in UK waters. Swimmers were last night warned to be on their
guard and record sightings of the creatures to help protect others. A swarm of
jellyfish whose sting can leave red welts on t!
he skin and cause 24-hour fever was spotted earlier this month. So there we
are, if you're going swimming watch out for the Lion's Mane jellyfish. The best
policy apparently is look but don't touch so says one marine expert.

Light Entertainment

There's a programme starting next weekend which is a real must if you like me,
enjoy light entertainment. It's the story of light entertainment. It's the
first of eight programmes narrated by Stephen Fry. Over the years we've had
many double acts from Laurel and Hardy right up to Ant and Dec and everything
in between. The most famous of course being Morecambe and Wise. It starts next
Saturday night, the story of light entertainment on BBC Two. It looks a really
good programme so one there for the diary.

Museum

Just a quick plug for something, if you've got children over the summer
holidays, this Thursday sees the extension of the National Museum of
Photography, Film and Television in Bradford. They've got a new experience TV
gallery opening and well, if you see yourself as a budding Paul Hudson or
newsreader, you can have a go at both or the kids can. Practise presenting the
weather or reading the news. Old rare television sets are on display and you
can chose some of your own favourite vintage TV. It really is a fabulous trip.
Exit 26 of the M62 for the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.
Well worth a visit, their big new television gallery is opening on Thursday.
So a good trip out with the kids.

Well that's it from me for today. Enjoy your Monday afternoon and join me
tonight as usual, BBC One at 6.30pm. Don't forget if there's anyone you know
who's not getting the Levy Letter and you think they're missing out, you can
point them in the direction of the two addresses at the bottom of the page, get
them to sign up and as soon as they do, they'll get their first Levy Letter the
following day. See you tonight and look out for your letter again tomorrow.

Take care, Peter.
