Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news and of course Lisa will have the weather forecast.

If you’re a motorist, then do not miss tonight’s programme as we’ll have some
stories of interest for you. I'll have the latest on the row over the A1079.
It's the key route from Hull and York and we'll be asking whether or not the
road should be upgraded or if speed cameras alone are enough to keep speed down
and to cut the number of accidents. I’ll have the full story on this and I’ll
be getting your reaction to the thirteen new speed cameras that go live today
on a twelve mile stretch of that road. It’s apparently the highest
concentration of cameras in our region and I’ll be finding out more on that.

On tonight's programme, I'll be finding out how we can beat the car thieves as
Look North is out on patrol with the boys in blue in Skegness. Police in the
area are launching a crackdown on car crime after a recent spate of thefts and
break-ins. We’ll be following the officers and getting tips for all residents
and holidaymakers in the region on how to keep our belongings safe.

And find out why shark fishing in Bridlington is set to boost the town's future
prospects. Can you believe that? Shark fishing! They hope it will encourage a
more diverse trade in the resort and boost tourism as more and more
holidaymakers come to the region for recreational fishing. And I'll be speaking
to a regeneration expert about what plans he may have for the East Riding as an
eighteenth century naval wreck is raised. I’ll have the full story on that
later.

Lincolnshire has roughly seventy thousand migrant workers, all doing the jobs
we don’t want to do and doing it for less money. They now have a new champion -
we'll meet the only dedicated chaplain working with migrant workers in Boston.

Plus we'll be live with our Home Grown family, who have survived the week
living off locally grown and produced food. As we’ve seen, it hasn’t been easy,
but have they enjoyed the experience or are they now reaching for the tin of
baked beans? We’ll be live with the family tonight. I hope you can join me at
half past six.

Opera

There’s opera from the Big Screen tonight! This time it’s Turandot and that’s
just to get us in the mood ahead of a big sporting weekend. If you want to come
along, then the entertainment starts at a quarter to seven and the opera starts
about half an hour later. Chairs will be provided. That’s a relief isn’t it? So
you don’t have to lug your sofa to Queen Victoria Square. And you can bring
your own picnics and drinks and just come along and enjoy the third and final
opera from the Big Screen. That’s Turandot in the centre of Hull starting at a
quarter to five.

House Prices

House prices fell last month, knocking £2200 pounds off the price of a typical
house in this country. That’s boosted fears that for the first time, in quite a
few years, house prices could actually drop. That’s bad news then for home
owners, but it’s only one survey and it was only a few weeks’ back that I was
reporting a record rise in house prices in just one month, so what do we
believe?

Humber Bridge

Just a reminder that this time next week, we’ll be down at the Hessle foreshore
getting ready for our outside broadcast, preparing to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the Humber Bridge. If you are around and you can make it down to
the Hessle foreshore next Friday evening for about a quarter past six, then I
look forward to seeing you there.

Buddy Holly

We’ve got that exclusive competition for Levy Letter readers to win tickets to
see the Buddy Holly musical in York in August. It’s a wonderful show and we’ve
had a lot of entries already, but there’s still time to enter. So all you’ve
got to do is to name one of Buddy Holly’s hit songs. Just name a song and email
me with the answer to [EMAIL PROTECTED] And you will then be in with a chance
to win tickets to see that wonderful show.

Television

Well, it’s a very big sporting weekend coming up. It’s the end of Wimbledon and
also the end of the World Cup. It’s also quite a big rugby weekend too. So if
sport is your thing, then whoever you’re supporting, or whatever you’re
watching, then enjoy this weekend. Talking of television, I see that after
twelve years, the BBC has decided to axe the Vicar of Dibley. If there are any
other programmes that you’d like to see axed (think very carefully before you
answer that one!!), then email me in. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Letter

If you’re talking to anyone at the weekend and if you’ve got any friends, who
are not signed up to the Levy Letter and you think they would like one, then
please do some PR for us! Point them in the direction of the two addresses at
the bottom of the page, click on Levy Letter and sign up. They’ll then get
their first Levy Letter from Monday.

West End

If you’re a great lover of musicals and you’d like to get down to the West End
of London, and not just for musicals, but for plays as well, then I see that
the cost of tickets has never been lower. And I suppose that’s for various
reasons – lots of people going on holiday, or watching the World Cup and also
the anniversary of the London bombings. They’re saying that the ticket sales
are very slow, so all of the theatres have got plenty of seats up for grabs.
It’s almost worth taking a train down and trying to see a show that you’d
really like to watch. Talking of which, earlier in the week, we had a young
local lad, who was up for an audition with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber for the part
of Kurt in The Sound of Music. Well, I haven’t heard how he got on. He probably
hasn’t heard himself how he got on yet, but as soon as we know, then I’ll let
you know too.

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good day and a good weekend and
look out for your Levy Letter again on Monday.

Take care,

Peter
